I'm not even dignify this with a response. Oops, I just did.
Have you ever been to Europe? I have and it's much cleaner than North America that's for certain. I'm sure there are some people in Euro who bathe once a week, but then there are also people in North America who bathe less frequently or never even bathe at all

Believe it or not POGO, she's average for a European gal, just average. But when she steps onto North American soil, she immediately becomes the cream. But anyway keep coming up reasons for posting her pic, me like

If that girl's average, then I'm moving to euro regardless of the bathing issue.

Twistserve if you have to ask the queston do euros bath once a week, i might suggest its time for you to leave your comfort zone and experience life a little by doing a bit of travelling. the best thing i ever did was decide to go to the states and spend the time i did there.
travelling is the life's classroom, go and learn....as someone once told me. i cant guarantee that the average women will look like that but if you come to scotland i can promise you a hit and a pint.

I don't know what parts of Europe you've been to but from my experience it goes like this: Most beautiful generally comes from Central Europe(ie Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland etc), after that it's the Mediterranean scene then Scandanavia. (note: these are generalizations and they are very close) (also note: I haven't seen too much of the UK so don't count on me for that)

What uncle is yanking your chain. But if your uncle believes this then??. Sorry must say last year visiting my cousins (who are back now) but lived in MIN there next door neighbour asked a range of STUPID questions

* = what i thought
/ = what i said

" do you have cars over in the UK"

/ No we walk everywhere/

"ohhh kool"

"Do you have TV over there"

* No we invented it idiot *

"do you have phones over there"

/We invented it idiot/

"Do you have pizza over there in Europe"

* Again No we invented it *

and possibly the worst thing ever especially since i picked up a baseball bat for the first time and my cousin and i had just hammered them

"Do you play sports over in the UK"

Thankfully/Sadly (take your pick) i nailed him where the sun don't shine with a tennis ball playing baseball (yes we played with a tennis ball as it was in the street)

There are some other odd beliefs in America.

Some Northerns and Canadians thinks that Haggis is an animal with one leg longer than the other so that it can walk round mountains easily.

You can be an odd bunch.

Not me! I think Haggis is a reason to drink scotch....lots and lots of scotch....maybe enough to float a battleship.

I have already read some stupid posts by Twistserve but this one gets the gold medal in the olympics of the endurance of stupidity in face of absurdity.
good job..... you sound like one guy I met the first time I was in the US, who asked me things like
-is there a police force in Chile?
-so, if your seasons are oposite. do you celebrate christmas in July?
-do you guys get american movies there?
-and more nonsense I can't even remember, nor do I mind not remembering.
all I know is that I never had much respect for that guy, and I'm felling the same way about twistserve now.

Some questions for you Rios:

- I know there is a police force in Chile, but can they be paid off like all those latin movie cops - example is Traffic - so If I had the money I could buy the police and do whatever i want?
- I know the seasons are opposite and you still celebrate chrismas in December, but hmm does Santa ride in a surfboard instead of a snow sled?
- How come you guys get american movies while we dont get chilean movies?
- Do you guys eat donuts?
- Do you guys drive on the right side of the road, or the wrong side?

hahaha... lol... great comeback Twistserve. well, I haven't been there in awhile but from what I remember I can answer some of your questions.
Firstly, Chilean movies are terrible. I haven't seen traffic so no comments on that, but I do know for a fact that unlike in Costa Rica or Mexico it isn't such a good idea to offer money to a police officer in Chile. in fact Chile is the 17th least corrupted country in the world right next to U.S.A (16th) http://www.transparency.org/cpi/2002/cpi2002.en.html
as for the Santa comment.... mmm... Santa doesn't always make it down there as there's a lot of poor people unfortunately. but yeah, I've heard that Santa shows up riding a surfboard , wearing sunglasses and a speedo.
about the donuts. no chileans don't eat donuts, but I'm really digging boston creams here in the states.
and yes, we drive on the right side. we're all angry drivers... everyone needs to chill out down there.

Actually, I have also heard this "rumour" of Europeans not showering everyday. From several different places, the "rumour" comes up now and again. At least I know they are wrong now.

It came up in my German class when we were talking about American and German stereotypes and we asked our professor (who's German) about it and she couldn't believe it and said that as far as she knew Germans were unaware of this sterotype put on Europeans by the Americans. She told us that people bath like they do here but to make everyone happy she decided to concede the idea that only the Italians didn't bath... but it was just a joke... or was it?

The truth to the myth is that way, way, way back in the day Europeans rarely bathed, myabe once a year, because they thought it to wash away the water from their babtism and then they'd go to Hell and what not. There wasn't even an USA then, so who knows, people here probably would have done the same thing too.

if i hadnt been to america and had been asked questions like this i would have been shocked at what people actaully though. whilst i realise they mean no harm, it takes a certain level of ignorrance to actually believe in these "rumours". in the uk their are people who have heard the "rumours" that all americans do is eat McDonalds and shoot one another and think this is the case. when asked if i had ever seen someone being shot during my time in the states by a worker who found out about the time i had spent there, i realised that this bone headed type of question was worldwide........

littlelleyton said:

What you call ignorance may be called open minded to someone else.

Showering everyday is an integral part of my life and I believe that of most people around me. Which means for anyone to believe such an "out there" claim I would have heard it from an otherwise reliable/sensible source. And whats more, it is a "rumour" that appears to have many different sources.

us hygiene vs european

funny topic..:).. i am american but my parents are eurpean.. i have travellled all continents of this planet and seen 47 of the staes in the usa and all teh countries that make up the continent of europe an i can say this..
the us and europe are made up by states / countries.. in general europe is more diverse than the states.
but when it comes to hygiene europe is more natural ..ie.e. less powdered faces on chicks and lipstick on the beach + in bed.. and less deodorized.. air sprays , mouth fresheners, hair spray stuff like taht .. thats more america or at least ******* ..
in europe peopl are more fit and eat much much better than in the states .. more fresh foods and breads .. much less colorings / preservatives in the foods..that for me is more important but i have to say the hygiene is not so hot in say greece or bulgaria. there people are more hot / sweaty due to the weatehr in spring / summer .. less a/c than in the usa..

all in all i think the general summary from my side / opinon , based on actually travelling and being palces for longer than a day or 2..
europe : healthier more sporty naturally beautiful.
usa : more chemically and artificially clean ( sprays , mouth spray .. pills for everything except common sense .. hheehhhee.. jsut kidding..)

TBH,

whilst i agree with the general point your trying to make i do not believe that for one, a person believing that people in any civialised country baths once a week, nor do i think its opened minded to believe that in america all people do is eat mcdonalds and shoot people. this is not being open minded.
there is a significant difference to being open minded/not knowing something than there is to not making an educated and intelligent estimate about a subject.

in this day and age if "reliable/sensible sources" think such things as these then i would say they automatically rule themselves out from being called reliable.

i believe that these "rumours" were not actually passed on in totaly serious and were in fact a wind up with maybe a reference to the stereotypes that some people in the US have heard about europe.

so in your reply to the topic were are talking about, europeans( well there is a rash generisation first of all, how can all europeans that come from so many different countries be branded together???) bath once a week, i would say that either it is in fact a wind up or that the person who told this rumour is indeed ignorant on the subject. im not saying they are ignorant in general as i have never met or spoke to them but on this subject then yes. if you think they are open minded then that is your opinion.

yes i'm funny and smart, but! ... i don't know everything, especially cultural differences.. so i didn't know for sure if what i heard about bathing was true or false.

TwistServe, I'm sure you wernt trying to offend anyone, but what your uncle told you sounds rediculous. Is he kind of a red neck? Maybe sort of racist? (no offense intended). What he told you is like a European saying that all Americans ride around on horses in cowboy hats and fight Indians all day long.
