Best?

Med would struggle to even in win more than 2-3 games against 05 AO Fed and Safin beat him
If you are talking talent sure. But sorry he isnt the best Russian player. He peaked at 25 years old barely did anything in slams from then on. And was retired before he was 30. No. People judge someone on what they look like and what they did at their peak. Med has accomplished far more its not really close.

People do this in all sports. They look at someone who is super talented and say well he was better. But in reality that's not relevant. Results are what matter in determining this type of stuff. There are thousands of super talented athletes who just disappear.

Also you Safin fan boys have to realize that Safin was getting smoked by next generation guys all over the place. He was worthless after 25 years old. He had one decent run at Wimbledon after 25 and that was it.

Definitely. Same logic for Medvedev applies for Safin. He beat over the hill Sampras.
Pete was still in very good form for the 00 match. Could he have been better sure. But real over the hill Sampras was 2001, when he was dead on his feet vs. Hewitt. He brought a higher level in 2000. Djokovic at USO 21 was a good win, but that's the only impressive Slam win Medvedev has.

But as usual, we ignore the elephant in the room, which is that Safin beat peakest peak Federer at the AO, Fed who had essentially demolished the entire tour in 2004.

That happened, in reality. And then he followed up with a masterclass vs. Hewitt in the final.

Man you are looking at one match. Safin was basically a Fed contemporary and washed out. Come on. This is silly. He did nothing after 25 years old. This is all stupid. Many of you are comparing a rock band with a peak 5 year career to The Rolling Stones.

Injuries. Is Cilic better than Del Potro now? Much more consistent.

Exactly. Medvedev over Djokovic is impressive slam win. His career is not finished. I said he is behind Safin now but with 1 more slam he will be ahead.

Oh for gods sake. This is idiotic. Injuries? Look Safin won 15 career titles. We are talking sport here buddy injuries come into play in all the best of all time debates. If Michael Jordan cant play cause of injures after two NBA championships no one is talking about him.

Well youre saying he didn't do anything after 25, he was crippled by injuries. A little different than flaming out because he sucked.

Medvedev will undoubtedly win more titles than Safin overall, but I still don't think he was the better player. the 2 Slams speak loudly here.

Medvedev has gotten absolutely shellacked in 6 of the last 7 HC Slams he's played, by the way. Great Bo3 player but he has highly highly underachieved in Slams. The only one which was even close was AO 22 vs. Nadal but that was humiliation. Stan, Thiem, Novak, Rafa, Kyrgios, Korda all took him apart and he had no answers on the highest stage.

Hes ahead of him right now. His career is better. In all metrics except one more slam win. Hes way ahead of him
One slam is really big deal. Especially when Medvedev has only 1 slam. Why don't we take his slam away then? He will be another loser like Zverev and tsitsipas.

He was crippled with being famous for being in tennis and banging women all night. This is idiotic. Some guy has a 5 year peak beats someone who is consistent and wins over and over. Moronic.

Eh. People put way to much on slams. If Med win 35 titles and 1 slam he's a better player sorry. The odds of that happening are not good but he's just a better player.

Cool with the insults guy, I'm making valid points. I never insulted you or called you an idiot.

Also, he really doesn't win over and over in Slams. In fact he has gone down in concerningly one-sided fashion in 6 of the last 7 Slams.

Med has a lot more to write in his story of course. But as of now, today, you are disrespecting Safin by saying Daniil is better.

No one is making valid points. I aint even a Med fan and he's a better tennis player. Judging a one slam difference in two careers like that when one guy actually is good past 25 to another one who went on a vacation is silly.

Its like some guy coming into baseball and hitting .330 for 5 years and not doing crap after that.

To a guy who hits . 300 for 20 years.

Its really lunacy.

Have a read here http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/inde...in-playing-well-in-only-2-tournaments.691872/

you are underrating Safin extremely to say these things. He was genuinely great when not injured from 98-2005.

Sure career wise med is better (if we get into the little powderpuff best of 3s) than safin probably taken all his titles into account but he’s nowhere near a better player. And the wins he does have doesn’t even come close to safins best wins over Pete and Fed

Med has to start chalking up the slam wins to offset that

The guy was a good tennis player. His career is not anywhere near ATG or even great. He won two slams. And 15 titles overall. He was good. And then he was gone. For christ sake. Rafter had a similar career. Sorry neither one are better than Med. No.

Ferrer > Courier?
Ferrer? Over Courier? Come on man Courier won 23 titles lol. And 4 slams compared to 27 titles and no slams. Are you out of your mind?

Half of this board is on freaking drugs. To even compare these two is insanity. To try and compare Ferrer with Courier and Compare that with Safin And Med is bonkers.

David Ferrer reached one slam final in his career. Do some research. Courier made 7. Idiotic.

Ferrer won more titles and was much more consistent than Courier, who didn't do anything after turning 25.

By your logic...

My advice, go to bed.

No. Courier made 7 slam finals dude. And won 4 and was four titles behind Ferrer. Ferrer never won a slam. Safin won two slams finals and won two. Med has made 4 slam finals and won one and has four more titles. Are you drunk? This is beyond idiocy. Its entered a new phase. Its moronic.

Safin beat peak Federer and near prime Sampras to win his 2 slams. Medvedev could not even beat geriatric/not even playing well that day either Nadal to win at a slam Nadal had not won at in 13 years, and beat a 34 year old Djokovic who was fatigued from the season and semi final to win his only one.

Still have to do with Safin. His slam wins were just more legendary. And it's not like he sucked outside the slams either.

Med would just never be capable of an AO 2005 type win.

Davydenko isn't part of this comparison, way below the other 3
Medvedev besides winning a slam against a guy going for his 4th in the year also has 2 slam finals vs 2 Goats while Davy failed to reach a single final.
Good luck to Med reaching slam finals against Fed in 2006-2007.

What is this thread even? Safin got a win over peak Federer okay but like what about Medvedev? He only defeated the undisputed HC GOAT who had won 3/3 previous slams. You are telling me someone wins 3/3 without being at their peak?

If he defeats Joker at Wimbledon, he will become the best Russian tennis player of all time, since this version of the Serbian wolf is much better than the one his compatriot Safin defeated him back in the year 2008.

yes, when it is a damn useless asterisk era.
Djokovic wasn't even remotely close to prime, let alone peak in 2021.
2012 Djokovic at his peak (who btw won 1 slam that year) would crush 2021 Djokovic. it wouldn't be pretty.
oh and fed's the HC GOAT, not djokovic, let alone djokovic being undisputed.
Djokovic vulturing big time in asterisk era+inflation era doesn't necessarily make him HC GOAT.

It doesn't matter.
The Calendar Grand Slam stopper will always be a legendary moment.

Some serious salt here, bud.

just reality check of tennis in actual tennis eras, bud (not just vulturing in asininely weak eras)
call Djokovic HC GOAT if you want, but calling him undisputed at that is a joke for those following tennis properly. that's what I responded to and pointed out.

Djoko is #1 at AO, but not even top 5 at USO
Fed is #2 at AO and #1 at USO (ok, you can argue tied)
Fed's #1 at YEC , Djoko isn't even top 3.

Based on what? Novak has 6 titles just like Fed

because Sampras/Lendl are better at the YEC/indoors.

1 more title in asterisk era with weak-ass competition doesn't mean Djokovic is their equal

Djokovic won 4/6 with help of slowed down indoor courts as well

I'd say Mac/becker are better as well indoors/at the YEC, but that one atleast Djokovic can argue achievements.

Not sure what you mean by “Safin won two slams finals and won two”, but he also reached four slam finals like Med winning one more and against stronger opposition to boot. Maybe you should calm down a little with calling other people idiot, drunk etc?
