Is Medvedev the Nr. 1 under regular ATP ranking?

According to the Swiss newspaper Blick, if the regular ranking system (without the Covid specifics) would be intact, Medvedev has over 9000 points, while Djokovic has around 8800. Fed would be out of the top 50. Two questions for the stats fans.
1. Is this correct?
2. Why in all the world the Covid problem is still integrated in the rankings? Why not follow the normal, regular system? In other sports, we have already the normal systems intact, which is imo a good thing.

Can be correct, since a lot of tournaments were/and still are cancelled with the impossibility to defend the points.
On the other hand, it would not be "fair" to have the one with 3 GS titles + a final as no.2...

Points cannot be fair or unfair. They are what they are. It’s mathematically possible to win 4 slams and not be no.1. The covid protected ranking is unfair to players who are busting their asses playing many tournaments while others are just relying on tournaments played two years ago.

I know and you are right, just doesn't "feel" right to have Medv. above Nole (and I'm not a Nole fan).

The Covid situation will be settled soon I suppose...

nole would have 8860 and medvedev 9105 points. but you cannot see this in such a way. because the rules have changed and the players have adjusted their schedule accordingly. for example, nole would probably play some tournaments that he skipped if he did not keep the points anyway. have they mentioned in the article that nole would have 22 more weeks as no1 (and there was nothing the players could do about it and no one has changed anything in his schedule or game when he was "stolen" for those weeks)?

You look very tense. Best player in the world at the moment is 1st at rankings, nothing wrong about that.
I do not really care who is at what position. I’m only discussing the principle of awarding ranking points and why tournaments played two years ago should not be counted. I understand that you’re a fan of the best player in the world, so my opinion might irritate you a bit, but I assure you that I’m not tense.

I think so.

Medvedev has 6470 won this year + 1000 from Paris and 1500 from YEC + 90 from Vienna QF + 45 from

Djokovic has 8370 + 400 for his YEC wins against Zverev and Schwartzmann + 90 from Vienna QF.

I was about to say the same, players obviously adjusted their schedule and played around the Covid rules.

The point with the players rebuilding their schedules is certainly right. I have no intention to diminish one or the other player. But it seems odd to me, that still results from 2019 are counting for a ranking, with a pretty full schedule of tournaments this year and the second half of last year. The ATP had originally announced, as far as i remember, that the Covid extra ranking would end in March 2021.

Correct. But if you use them to determine who is the best player in the world, that can be amazingly misleading.
Correct, and numbers are used to determine the player who has the most points, aka world no.1. It does by no means indicate that world no.1 is the best player in the world.

Exactly. The point system is essentially there to take the #1 ranking out of some kind of vote, as it once was long ago. Obviously no system is perfect.

Medvedev would be #1 under the regular system which shows how flawed the system clearly is, which I've said before.

This is what Medvedev has right now:
USO
AO F
RG QF
Canada
Paris (2020)
ATP Finals (2020)
1 250 title
1 500 title

This is what Djokovic has right now:
AO
RG
Wimbledon
USO F
Rome F
400 points from ATP Finals (2020)
1 250 title

This should simply not be enough for him to be #1 over Djokovic when he has 3 Slams and another final, plus the Rome final.
