Is Nadal a Top 10 OE player off-clay?

BGod

G.O.A.T.
Just like most would agree Sampras ON clay wouldn't even crack Top 20.

How does Nadal compare in just the Open Era away from clay?

3 USO
2 WMBs
1 AO

And of course all his deep runs to Finals and Semis in the above Slams as well as Masters like Canada, Indian Wells, Cincinnati, Miami, etc.

And if he IS Top 10 in your opinion where exactly does he slot?

Having 6 Slams on paper makes it seem a no brainer but I tracked the following guys ahead of him:

Federer, Sampras, Becker, Borg, Djokovic, Connors, McEnroe, Lendl that's 8 with very little argument considering indoor achievements, etc.

So that just leaves 2 spots.

Edberg & Agassi are a strong cases against Nadal but could be argued even.

Wilander off-clay isn't too impressive, I think sufficiently behind. Murray is a very intriguing case, despite obviously 3 less Slams but incredible consistency.

And then there's how you look at Rod Laver in just OE.

Well, considering he had to play his entire career vs Federer and Djokovic at their best, 6 is actually highly impressive.

Very top heavy but what about lack of depth?

Also Andy Murray had to play against Federer, Novak AND Nadal with 5 Aussie Open Finals. Nadal has his 4 losses with 1 coming against Wawrinka and a Federer coming off knee surgery.

Let see Fed , Novak, Sampras, Borg(with year end championship and wct finals), Connors, Lendl( again yec and wct finals wins) ,Edberg, Becker, Agassi, J mac, and then Rafa.
Biggest drawback is no yec but pro is he lost to HC legends and grass court greats in so many finals and semi
Edit : Now after thinking Rafa >Edberg so he probably make top ten

8 Major titles off clay make him top 10 worthy, right?
:D

Nadal is at 10th in open era big titles off clay, so I would say he narrowly enters the top 10.
Good for him.

Definitely yes.

Lack of YEC is a hole but 8 slams, countless M1000, time at #1 (even if poor compared to Fedole it's good compared to many others), Olympic Gold, etc.

TOP 10 for sure.

Yes, below Fed, Djok, Sampras, Agassi, Mac, Connors, Lendl so about 8th, just for the OE and not including partial careers like those of Laver and Rosewall.
