Is Nadal already on 17 Slams?

Nadal winning this year's French Open is possibly the most foregone conclusion to have ever existed in the history of sport - look at the clay field this year! When you realize that the person with the biggest chance to stop Nadal from winning the title is David Goffin I hope that puts things in perspective.

So, with a minimum of a mere 3 Slams separating him from Federer going into Wimbledon, and the fact that Nadal is guaranteed to win at least one Slam per year until he decides to retire (whereas Federer has no such 'pet Slam') - suddenly Nadal ending with the highest Slam count of any male player in history seems more of an inevitability than a dream.

I see your point. I must admit, I 'sorta' think that a bit too re:Nadal, but not totally.

What do I mean?

Assumptions in sports often go from wrong, all the way to very very wrong. Mats Wilander went from winning 3 slam in one year, and next year a shadow of himself. McEnroe went from supremely dominant to a shadow on his return. Recently, we have Djokovic going from making EVERY finals of tournaments he entered AND winning all 4-slams in a row... to not making SFs at all in the last 5 slams in probably the weakest field since 2000.

The stop can be abrupt.

While I think Nadal is the favorite for RG18 (especially with the even more depleted clay field), nothing lasts forever.

Oldman Fedr will have to stop winning someday too.
I hope it's NOT soon™. ;)

Exactly. I think it doesn't matter how many slams Federer wins, Bull will sleepwalk it as he has RG in his pocket for how many ever years he wants.
Federer will have to keep playing forever with no sight of retirement.
Poor Roger!!!

Winning RG over and over and over and over and over again won't make Rafa GOAT boys ;)
Exactly, he’s proven that on slow surfaces he can run around every backhand and win with his one great shot: that amazing forehand. (Yes, he’s put together a few impressive streaks on fast surfaces but not many). But that’s it. He’s Unidimensional. And boring in comparison to Federer. If court speeds hadn’t been slowed down, Nadal wouldn’t even be within striking distance.

Rafa right now is chasing the slam record, I don't think he values a slam more than another atm
Getting the slam record by winning AO and Wimbledon again rather than winning RG 4 times would be more valuable would you say?

Nadal fans clay, clay, clay. Don’t Nadal fans think their being hypocritical when Nadal is using the FO to even stay close to Federer. Don’t he fancy his chances on grass and HC.

I was pointing out what I think Rafa thinks rather than what I think. If I could choose how he gets his 4 slams I'd go 2 AO's, 1 RG and 1 WIM
