Is Nadal's aim to beat Federer's slam record and be proclaimed GOAT?

Nadal always stated that he wants and needs to improve. If he has a goal to get better, then his desire is to win more and more. He’s the most hungriest player I’ve ever seen. I don't believe he will rest until he complete his goal.

Fed had no choice b/c he was being pressure to catch Sampras, and even the FO. Nadal will be pressure too. You watch.

At this present time, Nadal has 10 majors. He is nowhere near Federer's 16.

(Still, it's not like he's going to go from winning 4 of 5 slams to not winning even one slam per year. Likely he'll be winning 2-3 slams per year for the next 2 years at least. And if he wins this Wimbledon, and serves like dynamite at the US Open again, we'll be looking at another shot at The Rafa Slam in Australia.

The reason why he has such a high probability of winning so many slams, is because he keeps going deep into each slam he plays. And who is the best at playing high-pressure grand slam matches? He is. So combination of him always being there toward the end of slams, and his ability to win critical matches (and never lose 5-setters), makes it normal and comfortable for him to keep racking up slams.

Plus the surface that we thought was his worst - US Open - is the slam he won last year while only dropping serve a record-equaling 5 times, and the last time he didn't make the USO SF was 2007)

IMHO, if Nadal does win Wimbledon in a few weeks the *******s will really start shaking in their boots :)

Then, imagine another USO win

Most Nadal fans aren't focused on Nadal besting Federer's slam count. We just appreciate his tennis and the amount of effort he puts into every win.

I think Nadal is secretly planning to beat Federer's slam record and be proclaimed GOAT eventhough he'll keep denying this. Federer wont be winning any more slams unless Nadal and Djokovic are out of the tournament. So the mark is 16. Do you think Nadal can do it at the pace he is going say atleast 2 slams a year for the next 3 years?

UM, when did he say he doesn't want to break the record? He said it is ALMOST impossible to do. DUH he wants to surpass that number! Why else is he in the trade, if not to try and be the best ever?

So true. It's that darn trying to assign superiority (complex). Why worry about it?

The bolded part is nonsense. All Nadal is thinking about right now is getting in some grass-court matches at Queen's Club in preparation for Wimbledon. His next opponent is Stepanek, a main stay on the ATP Tour for many years, so that is what has his focus. I think Federer likes to see the bigger overall picture and doesn't stay as rooted in the present as Nadal does. I'm not saying either approach is better or worse, just different.

How do you know what Nadal is thinking? Do you know him personally?

Of course Nadal wants to surpass Fed's records and be the best ever. He is not there for the good of his health. He is a champion and champions want to win and be the best, no matter what Nadal tells us.

He tells everyone in interviews how he approaches things. For some reason, some people think he's playing a deceptive PR game. At the present time, Nadal is on 10 majors and is nowhere near Federer's 16, so he won't be thinking about surpassing Federer's records when they are far out of reach at the present time.

I cannot believe the responses I am seeing in this thread. Of course Nadal will be thinking about playing and winning the next match (that is what each player will do). However, if anyone here believes that Nadal is content winning 10 slam titles, no matter what he says to the media, then you cannot be more wrong.

Nadal wants to win and break each record in tennis, he is extremely motivated (and his never say die attitude is a living example of that). The way he fights out there and does things to win, you would be a fool not to believe that. Believe what you see and not what you hear (from his stupid interviews).

Of course Nadal wants to win more, that's why he's still playing and trying to improve as a player, like he always does, but he doesn't jump ahead of events. At the moment, he's nowhere close to Federer's records.

(Exactly. I look at the situation Federer fans are in and I feel sorry for them, knowing that Federer's days of winning 3 slams in a year are over. I'm grateful that every slam Rafa plays he has an enormous chance of winning. Most importantly, I like the fact that Rafa never gives up on a match or ever looks fazed by being down 2-5 in a set etc.)

It has now been 1.5 years since Federer won a slam (AO 2010)

IMO, he's got 1 more slam in him somewhere... probably the USO this year if he doesn't play Rafa

I won't be shaking in anything,if Nadal beats Fed's slam record then all the more power to him. However I'll also not make threads that "this horse is getting harder to back!" if Fed doesn't win a slam this year.As long as he plays his beautiful tennis(subjective opinion I know)I'll have no problem "backing" him.

Did his posts ever gave you the impression that he's anything but(even without that pathetic thread)? The guy is obsessed with stats, even more than the most glory hunting Fed fans are.

lol trust me, I know. I had an argument with him about 5 set records during the AO. Don't dare challenge any of his contentions or he will put you on his ignore list.

Yet I still have to experience utter disgust when you occasionally quote a post of mine(like right now). How about you learn how to use the ignore list properly? Dumbass.

While so hostile?

Anyway, anyone who's been paying attention carefully, Nadal has his goal set...he wants all the tennis records he can possibly get. And the slam count is at the top his his priority list. He simply will not rest until he meet his goal.
