Is pickleball on the decline already?

No Wok related elbow issues yet, praise be to Joola.

Btw, my youngest who was my sous chef in the wok vid is now my partner in our internal pb league ... I have to thank him for his honesty every time I miss a shot.

lol … my wife is also very honest on my missed shots … her eyes cannot lie.

Was out at Chicken and Pickle, our location for a national pickleball and event place this last weekend and it was absolutely packed. Court fees are expensive on weekends, running $40 an hour, but they were full up. Along with good drinks, some Bocci and cornhole, with lunch, you can spend hours there, get your fill, and drop $150 for 4 people easy. And all that because our local Surprise PB courts had a packed tournament.

All while Surprise Tennis yet again had the on-going USTA Nationals, this time for old people. Continually diminishing people who want to play there because more than half the year you can't get courts on weekends.

Anywho....

Here is a question that occurs to me … “How much does USTA team tennis grow tennis numbers?”

I actually don’t know … and I played USTA team tennis for over 20 years (after my tournament tennis years). We always had large numbers of teams but it occurs to me this was made up of tennis players that were already hooked on tennis. My guess is female USTA teams added more new players … but totally a guess.

I believe most of us would go with RC racing over F1 racing for ourselves.

So, how many years have you been on the Gran Prix tour? And what is your current F1 driver rating?
You proved my point. We don't race RC cars. Cause it would be silly.

But we do watch F1 on tv.

Anytime you have to peak a sport with chicken or pickles or whatever it is they call these places, you don't have a sport. Its basically corn.

I agree … there is established real sport food protocol here people. You must become a real sport first and then sell boatloads of food with that real sport. Starting with food early is just sad premature foodplay.

Also … PPA got sports betting too soon … DraftKings.

Bottom line … there is too much laughing during pickleball to call it a real sport … not to mention “a frickin wiffle”.

I proved nothing of the sort. I’ve watched very little F1 on TV. Yet I did watch a fair amount of RC in my youth.

I’m not a huge fan of Pball. But I don’t share your elitist attitude or your loathing of pb.

I am not above saying I am an elitist in this situation. I am proud of it. Pickleball should be looked down upon and scoffed at. It is a peasant to tennis.

I can attest that there is more bruising and bleeding in pickleball … never remember keeping bandaids in my tennis bag. Knee bleeder … twice … both times from overheads … wiffle with holes “looks” harmless.

Yall heard of Typti ?? You use a junior tennis racquet and play with a sponge ball on a... wait for it... pickleball court.

Tennis Channel did some coverage on it during AO and I saw a few clips of it on X as well. Sounds odd but I honestly just want to try it with the intentions of pissing off pickle players when they come see me using their courts for a totally different sport.

Honestly, they should install Copilot that can summarize stuff for us especially when in dire need!

I have many posts on it.

I prefer Touch Tennis. The underhand serves and hitting with all body parts doesn't sound appealing. But it has the financial backing.

But anything is better than Pickleball.

Can you hit first volley in Typsy with your chest?

Genius.

Make a even lamer sport of pickleball and start to use it for their courts lol

@Zara this is the way

That lameometer must be a precision instrument.

PB / Typsy combination open play is going to be epic … video that because that will be the real sport. Two paddles up and two mini rackets up … I would watch that. Wiffle or foam … flip for it.

:-D

It's funny that in Europe padel is very popular among people who would like to play tennis but can't play tennis.

But obviously padel is too hard for Americans who would like to play tennis but can't play tennis.

TTW should start an online campaign for Pickle to become an Olympic Sport. The picklers I play with are committed and hardworking, and if breakdancing can join the O club why not us Wiffle bashing, Paddle slapping and Dinkers.
Oh please … everyone knows Europe spent its NATO budget on padel lessons.
As a committed freeloader I can attest to this. Europe and the free World a safer place for an upsurge in quasi tennis squash provision.

Everyone upsurges something … we chose measles

There is no doubt about it, PB has been and is a success. They were able to scale from recreational sport to local tournaments and money tournaments: That’s an impressive achievement any way you look at it in a relatively short amount of time.
The question is what factors would cause it to either:
1. Continue to grow
2. Stagnate or
3. Decline
And what has everyone got to say about Typti. Is the timing of the introduction of this game right? What’s likely to happen here ?
Will typti tempt PB players away from PB and join Typti? Is it possible that Typti couid be seen as the new fresh and cool sport and make PB kind of very yesterday and passé ? Will PB in 2027 be like that kid going around saying 6-7 but everyone else has moved on and thinks that’s it’s now uncool and silly? ( which it always was btw ) I don’t know , that’s why I’m asking for opinions here . Or will Typti be seen as a “me too’ sport, the one too many offering and be ignored ?
Meanwhile what is tennis to make of it ? I think tennis has the enduring classic appeal of the ultimate racquet sport but others may have a different view and suggest that tennis is harder to learn and takes longer to master. Will tennis keep fending these pretenders off snd stay standing once the craze ends or will tennis be bartered, undermined and bruised ? Will tennis try to put PB snd Typti under its umbrella in its governing structure?
I think tennis complex operators will be happy to offer a variety of options to the local community as leases are getting more expensive and you need to keep the cash flow happening. There are racquets to sell, balls to sell, court hire and local competitions and cross over sales into tennis and vica versa,
Is this too much to ask or does someone want to have a go and discuss ?
