Earnings doesn't equal prize money. Donald Dell used to say back in the 80s that the rule of thumb for the top players was 3x off court for each dollar earned on. It's 2013. The ratio has probably gone way up (again, for the top players only). Take that 7th ranked player:

That said, tennis is very, very top heavy as far as earnings. Much more so, I would guess, than many other sports including baseball. Much better (as far as money goes), again I'm speculating, to be the 50th best baseball player than the 50th best tennis player. Even more so as you go lower down the tennis rankings.
