Is Raonic the most robotic player ever to play the game?

I was trying to watch the match last night (and got thru to 2 sets), this guy Raonic, his every move is the same in between the points and just all around, and everything else, the hair, the Charlie Brown shirt, the service motion, he's so repetitive that he's just boring as hell to watch. Even with a 5 setter comeback match like that, I don't regret going to sleep early, though I was surprised he lost at this stage. He's one of those guys I just don't want to see play, granted he's a very effective player.

if you are a servebot consistency is the key. a flashy personality does not help if you are a servebot because your job is to hold your serve and wait for your chance.

Also I forgot to mention, he seems without any emotion. I mean, yeah being calm during a match and focused is a strength, but come on! He needs to do a dance when he wins or scored a big point, or something. Hell, do the robot. If he did some version of a robot dance, he would get some points in my book. Nothing.

He is pretty unlikeable... Boring game with no personality. Definitely not what tennis needs.

His forehand is ugly.

Have to admit his volleying has improved, but his forehand looks really weak. I love his serve, but that's about it. Backhand is average, movement is meh, and his forehand can be useful sometimes but his game is too predictable.

His approach shots are Roddick-like questionable at times, looks like he's just doing it, just to look smooth and get to the net.

He should serve and volley every first serve.

It's also crazy watching him because he looks so confident after he hits an ace or unreturned serve, but once the ball is in play he looks scared.

I am sorry but for me the most boring player there is. Hate everything about him- his game, personality. Hope he never climbs much or any higher than he currently is.

Another problem with Milos is he genuinely believes he can play long rallies and succeed. If he just started going for broke and blasting forehands like Fernando Gonzalez, he'd be more intimidating to go along with that huge serve, and he'd be a bigger threat on fast surface.

Watching him try to go toe to toe on the baseline with Nishikori, and then Fed at Cinncy, was utterly sad.

Utterly delusional he thinks that is his best strategy. With that stupid gameplan for himself he is so lucky he has that great serve.

Exactly we he should just go for broke, 1-2 tennis ala Federer all the time or serve and volley like Samp.

His second serve kicks well enough and high enough to make it tough for somebody to return. His first serve if placed properly, is almost unreturnable.

He's shown that he can be successful at serving and volleying, he just doesn't do it enough to make a difference. The downside is he's a huge guy so S&V'ing would definitely take a toll on him especially with his big frame.

But he's been roughly the same baseline player he was when he first came onto the scene. Shaky ugly forehand + mediocre backhand.

Doesn't Hewitt have bits of metal in his body these days?

I'll go with Jimmy Connors.

As a Canadian, its amazing to have him ranked as high as he is, but if he was from any other country I would probably despise his game lol..

Raonic's biggest problem is not his robotic style, but the fact that he is not a tennis player,
he is an ace player. He relies on acing his opponents to get him through matches.
Once a rally gets going he becomes one of the most unimpressive and boring tennis players I have ever seen.

Boring, talentless oaf. This is what happens if someone with no talent simply was very tall from a young age and practiced serving non-stop -- no other shots, just serves. Personally I think Raonic should just give up the point if his serve gets returned.

Haha your last name. That's funny :).

The reason why he's able to reach as high as 6th in the ranking is proof that there is a lack of depth in the mens game.

If his serve is broken he looks more than scared, he looks petrified because he knows he has little chance of breaking anyone's serve. He looks clumsy because he is built all wrong for tennis. His parents wanted him to play ice hockey.

I like Milos and I hope he wins a few Slams, especially Wimbledon where the grass is more suited to how he SHOULD be playing...*sigh*

He's really a very good player. One of the best in the world. What is repetitive, is the trend of people bashing him for being a normal guy trying to be the best he can be. You're the nicest of the bunch, to be honest. If this can be called bashing at all.

Milos is probably the least athletic of the top 10ers. But he has done well with the assets he has, and you have to give him credit for that. He shows little emotion on the court, but so does one of the more athletic guys in the game.....Nishikori! It all makes for an interesting mix....not only a clash of styles, but a clash of personalities. I don't want to watch 100 Nadal clones. Give me a variety of styles and personalities! I'm ok with that!
