Is Roger The Favourite For Wimbledon 2019?

He hasn't played this well on clay since 2012 maybe? And the surface switch to grass will give him a boost, as long as he can maintain this level. What do you guys think?

The favourite is undoubtedly Djokovic, I'd say Federer is second and has decent chances of making it to the very end(although I wouldn't take further conclusions based on his RG performance as he did not need to deal with a real test yet)

It goes Djokovic ---- Federer ----------------- Tsitsipas, del Potro and Nadal in the same boat after that
Interesting oprinion. And I agree with you 90% but not totally. Based on the fact that Delpo and Tsitsipas have 0 WB titles and Nadal has 2 and was close to wining last year, I would say these are the favorites:

1. Djokovic

2. Federer

3. Nadal

4. Delpo/Tsitsipas

Judging by how well he has done after Australian Open, I'd say he is just slightly behind Novak. But at his age now he is more likely to have bad days that can be exploited. At this point it's really hard to guess for how much longer can these older guys remain at the very top.

There's no way a guy who is nearly 38 is the favorite in any slam, regardless of surface. Djokovic is the favorite for Wimbledon, whether he wins FO or not next Sunday.
I don't disagree.

But at the same time, the same statement was probably being made 10 years ago about "a guy who is 32."

This year's favorite.

maybe but grass season can also be tricky where people can show up in form after flopping during clay court season. i think for now djokovic remains the fav no doubt about it. i think with everything else it depends on how they do in queens/halle respectively. in 2017 cilic i dont think he was doing much on clay and in general that year but found himself in the final of queens and wimbledon

What fed might want is djokovic to win this french open hopefully having to go through a brutal emotional battles with thiem, nadal and or stan. Have a letdown usually djokovic is fired up after losing a big one. He could slip another W title in even at his age. He wins the first two sets its on his racket at wimbledon still imo.
No, he wants to win RG himself. If he can't, he would prefer Thiem to win it, rather than Nadal or Djokovic.

I have the utmost respect for Rafa - he has turned his Slam form around from 2015-16 when he couldn't buy a SF, now he's been in every QF since 2017 apart from Wimbledon that year.

That said, 2018 was an anomoly here in London. We had the hottest summer since the 70s, and he didn't have to play a single big server in the first week. So by the time he played del Potro, the grass was like a hardcourt. We're not having the same summer this year, it'll be cooler from what I've seen and perhaps he won't have the same luck. Personally he has the slam winning mentality that only some have, so yes, probably you can put him just above Tsitsipas and del Potro, but definately below Djokovic and Fed.

Let's see how RG will pan out before making such predictions. I mean, let's say the final is an 5 setter of Djokovic vs Nadal with a huge physical toll on both of them. This surely modifies their chances on grass.

As of now, I'd say Djokovic is the main favorite for Wimbledon. Not a lock, but definitely the one with the higher chances. Tough to say that Federer is the second, and I can't see Tsitsipas being right there on grass yet... I'm curious to see his performance on the lawn, what's he's playing as a tune up?

Not the favorite but can certainly win it, especially if Nole loses early. I think that´s the whole point of what Fed is doing. He knows he´s long past being the automatic favorite. But he also knows he retains a lot of his playing capabilities and so has to be ready to pounce when an opportunity presents itself. That´s not the same as vulturing, by the way. You have to be as good as Fed is at 38 (possibly a once in a lifetime occurrence) to even have a chance.

Last year he also failed to win RG and still won WB.

True. But to have managed to get back into form and lose the opportunity of winning all 4 slams in a row could be dramatic for his motivation.

These days he doesn't even seem to be motivated by MS1000....

There's nothing wrong with saying 2nd favorite right now at this moment. Who else is it going to be?
Not only is there nothing wrong with it, I prefer it.

He plays his best tennis when there's no expectations to win the title, but is still in great shape to make a run. We see how desperately he tries to play down his chances in recent years.

This post really writes off many other good grasscourters like Cilic and Raonic, especially when the OP puts Delpo above either of them.
