Is Rune a cheater?

Comentators just said something I may have missed, that the umpire had called a let. Don't know if he actually saw the double bounce.

If he did call a let, then I think Rune did not cheat. This time.
Situation was like this:

- Ball double bounced, both Rune and Cerúndolo stopped playing. Rune clearly saw it double bounce. See this:

- Since no call was made, Cerúndolo timidly approached the net to put the ball away, and said something along the lines of it being a double bounce before that.

- The umpired then called let first and then point hindrance since in his view it wasn't a ballboy or spectator that talked "mid point", which is what I think he thought at first, but Cerúndolo. Beware, the umpire hadn't seen it double bounce.

- Point was subsequently awarded to Rune, who did nothing but remain quiet and let it happen despite the fact that he CLEARLY was aware it had been a double bounce.

Rune is a cheater.

The real crime is that there was no call on the bounce. Looks like something a competent chair umpire should see as it wasn't exactly close. I wouldn't call it cheating as the players don't make the calls as this is more poor sportsmanship.

i can see an umpire missing those from the chair from time to time.. but usually the player
does know if they did it, and so does the opponent... rune seems to be one of those players
that just goes by the umpires call if its in their favor no matter what lol

You people kill me. Where is it written in a professionally officiated sport that a player needs to call things o themselves? Have you ever seen a footballer/soccer player call handling, or offsides, or a penalty on themselves?

Or a baseball player say "yeah, he tagged me out" or "no, no...that wasn't a ball, it was a strike. Nice pitch".

Get off your couch and enter the real world...

Changed my mind.... Not necessarily cheating, one might not be absolutely 100% sure after picking a ball like that, its too fast, youre running too hard. Its absolutely the umpires responsibility, plus hes got linespeople he can consult with.

Yes, video review should be allowed for this, when you can see it so clearly in a replay.

You gotta do what you gotta do. Win at all costs, bud.

You are right, cheating maybe is a strong word here. But when something is that obvious, it is at least not fair play.

It doesn't need to be written, it's something you can do due to good sportmanship.

Well, in tennis it does happen a lot, by honest players.

This isn't soccer, this is tennis. A gentlemens sport!

Rune has what to me is the hardest thing to have in tennis which is a winner's mentality

What he lacks in shot selection and fitness are easier to attain the older he gets

I will always give players the benefit of the doubt when it comes to double bounces on the full stretch, it can be very difficult to tell (this jist from personal experience) and I refuse to believe that every time this happens, every player is showing poor sportsmanship, when not conceding the point.

I've defended him in the past but there's no defending this. Terrible, awful sportsmanship and he knew it because it was all over his face after that. It's one thing for someone to hit the line on hardcourt or grass and it's called out, and you keep quiet because you're not sure and leave it up to them to challenge; but not on a double bounce where you know it bounced twice before you hit it and know they can't challenge that mistake.

It is the umpire's job to call that, not the players' jobs.
Rune did nothing wrong.

I know exactly when I get a double bounce, and I'm not a pro. They know very very well.

It's hard to call it cheating. He didn't do it behind the umpire's back or anything. It's unsportsmanlike, for sure, if that's something you're big on. The fault is on the ignorance of the idiot who made the call. Never again shall I be able to appreciate the dulcet tones of Kader Nouni in quite the same way.
