Is Shapovalov overrated next gen?

I really feel like Shapovalov is overrated, a lot says he will be the next big grand slam winner and this and that. But he keeps losing his matches in early round over and over. He is 19 years only, I know, but at age 19, Nadal had already won GS, so had Becker, Federer had reached 2 GS QF's, Chang had also won a GS, Djoko had a QF at GS too. Shapovalov has had one R16, and then only won 2 out of 5 other GS Matches.

Maybe I am wrong, but until he wins an ATP 250 or gets to a new R16 at a GS, I dont see him as the next Star.

Yeah he’s the most overrated player ever.

He sucks. Period. His BH is terrible and easy to exploit and his forehand is baitable AF.

People just like him cause he has a flashy game, but he has zero substance.

At least Z knows how to win

He is a little more hyped than other players his age because he has a nice style therefore more people want him to make a breakthrough but his time will come eventually, he’s definitely talented enough to be good in this weak a*s era

Oh and he needs to learn how to slice.

All "next gen" players are overhyped trash. In no other sport are 20 year olds routinely dispensed of by their 30+ year old counterparts. Don't care how many slams they divvy up among themselves when the Big 3 finally make way, they've already shown themselves to be frauds and the weakest generation of talent in possibly all of sports.

It’s apples and oranges but the two best football (soccer) players in the world are 30+ so it’s not only tennis.

I do agree that NextGen are trash though.

That’s why I couldn’t possibly acknowledge Zverev or Kyrgios as GOAT in the future if they happen to surpass Roger’s Slam count and win three CYGS because we all know it would be because of this crappy era and not cause they eventually became better players than Roger

Seems like you’ll soon become a GOAT yourself. Only 117 messages left to go and you’ll be there.
It’s an honor to be called GOAT but there are far more deserving people.

Gotta stay humble, no?

Can we at least agree Zverev is no more talented than Roddick, and that if he were younger his HSC* would be at least 2 Slams higher than Zverev

*Hypothetical Slam Count.

Just maybe.
He's 19.. Nadal is one of the greatest tennis players to have ever walked planet Earth, Becker one of the best grass courters, and Novak also one of the best ever.. The game has become significantly more physical and he is probably the youngest player in the top 100? Are you expecting him to win like 12 slams at the US Open and be no. 1 for 8 straight years?

We can’t say for sure Kyrgios is more talented than Andy.. At Kyrgios’ age, he had already 1 Slam title, was the world no. 1 and made a couple of GS SFs in a world where Federer was entering his prime and was the world number two. Meanwhile Kyrgios is busy losing to Dimitrovs of the world in Slams.

I agree. His return is that much worse.

And his forehand is worse in terms of average shot quality. Doesn't really do much except hitting winners off sitters and the occasional murderkilldeath winner.

First of all, this is a guy who beat Nadal during one of his best ever years and that at only 18 years of age. Tell me any other player who has done that! Second, he has showed his otherwordly potential on several other occasions, like when he beat Tsonga with ease at the USO. According to my sources, El Shapo has been training extremely hard this first half of the year, looking to continue his development, prioritizing the process instead of results. Now, take a look at Zverev. He won’t ever be much better than he is now. He is rushing things and hasn’t even bothered to learn how to hit a volley.

Shapovalov’s extreme training regime came to an end on the 20th of June and will come out strong for Wimbledon. That has been the goal all along. Just wait and see, he is going to surprise everyone.

Roddick would thrive in this era. Meanwhile we’re busy coming up with reasons why is the poor misunderstood NextGen underrated, unfortunate and "still too little and innocent"

Probably impossible, with the 30s waiting times. Gonna cost over 3 days to get there and paranoid ain't fooling around himself.
I’m gonna get to 9999 posts and stop posting. haters rejoice!

People on TTW will forever ask questions about hypothetical peak paranoid and how he could’ve been GOAT.

Just ran into the highlights of Roddick-Ancic Wimbledon semi, some great shot making. Then you remember they were like 21 and 20 at the time. Roddick already a Slam champ, YE#1 and 3 Masters, and Ancic basically the now defunct title of Prince of Grass

Good times. Ancic was a joy to watch on grass. Andy should be nothing but proud. Better to give everything and then some more fighting against the GOAT than to be winning free Slams because of no competition.

At least Andy has the self proclaimed right to 'call Roger when he's sleeping, cause I'm partially responsible for 4 of his Wimbledon titles'

The quotes never stopped coming

At the rate you‘re posting you’re not gonna enjoy the GOAThood for very long. Heck, you might even be the first one to tell us what comes after the Bionic Poster.
I will assume control of the forum and ban all pro-Zverev posts.

Nah but seriously ending at 9999 is the plan!
