Is Shapovalov overrated next gen?

What do you really expect from a Canadian?

Either to have good tennis results

or to look like this:

Has he achieved anything big? No. Does he have a remarkable consistency or outstanding development? No. Has he shown enough to justify such over the top hype? No. Is he terribly talented? Hell yeah.

The problem is some fans don't know how to find a middle ground. The boy has a lot of potential, more than most NextGen players, and that can be seen miles away, but at the end of the day it's just that, potential. Before proclaiming him as the future king of tennis, the heir of Federer and Nadal and all those crazy things, we must give him time to prove himself. Of course, we can't expect from him the same as what great legends like Borg or Becker did, the sport has changed too much and there's no point of comparison, but maybe winning a title could be a good start. The hype is justified by his talent and his entertaining game, but only to a certain degree. The way things are, at this very moment, he is very overrated.

He is a little more hyped than other players his age because he has a nice style therefore more people want him to make a breakthrough but his time will come eventually, he’s definitely talented enough to be good in this weak a*s era

Oh and he needs to learn how to slice.
He isnt a little more hyped than other players same age.
Several in here saying they are sure he will win many slams.

Why?

Why can't beautiful women be smart and successful?

This stereotyping is rubbish.

She is better in tennis than most women out there.
Beautiful women can be smart and successful but Genie ain’t one of them.

Her tennis sucks and her attitude sucks as well.

Why?

Why can't beautiful women be smart and successful?

They can, but she seems to have given up on her tennis success. She can be smart and successful in porn industry, though.

She is better in tennis than most women out there.

So is Tomic but he would make a bigger contribution to society by working in a factory.

Well, I don't think he would have suggested what he suggested if it wasn't for her looks and color.

Aren’t looks exactly the reason why anyone would suggest that someone should do porn? And I don’t really get the color remark, could you elaborate?

Rog first entered the top 25 the last week of October 2000, when he was roughly 19 yrs, 3 months old.
Nadal first entered the top 25 the first week of April 2005, when he was roughly 18 yrs, 10 months old.
Novak first entered the top 25 the last week of July 2006, when we was roughly 19 yrs, 2 months old.
Murray first entered the top 25 two weeks after Djokovic, in mid-August 2006, when he was roughly 19 years, 3 months old.

Shapo just entered the top 25 last month, roughly 6 weeks after his 19th birthday. A few weeks ahead of Rog/Novak/Andy, and only about 15 or so weeks behind Nadal. Doesn't mean Shapo'll be soon on their level (particularly Nadal, who won his maiden slam a minute or two after turning 19, and finished his year 19 season second in the world), but he's in good company so far.

The hype is at least semi-warranted.

No. Great style of play. The draws for some of the slams haven't been the best. He has beat Nadal in one of his best years and Del Potro at the same tournament. He made it to the USO 2017 4th Round through Qualies and beating Medvedev and Tsonga easily.
