Is Sinner embracing being the villain?

G.O.A.T.
I see that Sinner is dressed in all black while playing outdoors on clay during summer weather in Rome. Generally you see all black outfits during night tennis matches or during the indoor season and rarely daytime on summer clay. Is it a subtle sign that he is acknowledging his role as the ‘villain’ of tennis who got banned for 3 months for a doping offense while being ranked #1 causing one of the biggest doping scandals of the sport? Will he adopt this persona for a longer time as ‘The Man in Black’?

It would be cool if those tasked with creating ATP scripted marketing drama for selling tickets or his Adidas sponsors portray Sinner as the taciturn cold-hearted bad guy to root against and Alcaraz as the always smiling good guy to root for. Would be like an old-fashioned Hollywood western duel every time they played each other!

Maybe Sinner can use this as his entrance music.

I want this guy to not become villain. We already had a decade of nole vilified. Sinner is much more calm and shouldn't be portrayed as a villain.

In all seriousness though, the Novak villain thing was so much funnier because he tried to epic cringe levels to be some sort of peace-and-love-ovic

Villians are good.

We dont need heroes, we need villians to make things interesting.

I will back Sinner if he develops a 1990s Undertaker type aura of being feared by the tour....

Sinner has embraced the dark side of the force.
:happydevil:

I'll take it. We need some drama like that in tennis. We had Djokovic (and for awhile Nadal) play that role against Federer, now we got Sinner and Alcaraz.

I am LOVING Sinner doing exactly as i suggested he should do on his return,. Absolutely sticking two fingers up to the haters. The swagger (and he is even exaggerating it a bit at times), the sly smirks, its just brilliant. I do love Alcaraz (when he is focussed about tennis) but Sinner is just so 1980's and a throwback. His music choice is interesting as well, loves heavy metal stuff from the 70's and 80's. Im sure i read somewhere years ago his favourite song wasnt a true heavy metal band (they were more punk/soft metal if anything) but the Guns N Roses song One in a Million from the album Lies. He is a good lad is our Sinner.

That's an odd choice

Given that song is best known for its casually racist lyrics, they took a lot of heat for that at the time

No they didnt lol, it was one of the most popular songs in the 80's, at the time it was critically acclaimed as edgy. In the UK anyway, maybe different in the USA. There was no racist lyrics either. The word you are referring to was not a racist term back in the 80s as that community used it often when referring to themselves, Eddie Murphy routinely would use it in films. Obviously nowadays that song is probably not popular with the liberal left, but it was critically acclaimed by music fans and Sinner does seem into his music from what he says.

Ya I was alive then too. And I was in the US, not the UK, not even sure why you brought up UK. Is that where you are

That entire album was considered one of the best albums of the 20th Century as was Appetite for Destruction. GNR even today sell out wherever they go within minutes.

You claimed GNR took alot of heat in the 80s, i am disputing that. No doubt they took some, of course they did, and their marketing manager would have loved that as well, but the way you pleaded your point was as if there was national outrage almost, or thats how i read it, perhaps i misread the tone of your comment.

They did take a lot of heat for it, and when they re-released the Appetite box set in 2018, they didn't include that song.

Thats because it was 2018 lol, the height of wokeism (which is obviously now on the decline).
Not being funny but if it was so unpopular as you make out they would never have had the career as a band they had. No chance.

You're not listening. I said that song is an interesting choice, given that it's best known for its racist lyrics.

All the other stuff you're responding to is stuff I didn't say. The fact is there was a huge controversy about it and they were asked about it a lot. There's articles going back to the 80s about it. For Sinner to even know that song let alone say it's his favorite song makes me think he is a bit "based" if you're familiar with that term

Most lads his age love that song, it is iconic now. It is not best known at all for its racist lyrics, as there are none. Unless you think rap music is racist? It is considered a song well ahead of its time, much like in the UK a speech from a guy called Enoch Powell was considered ahead of its time, indeed is currently all over the news.
Sinner seems an intelligent and well versed guy who is mature for his age. I see no issue with him liking edgy music as opposed to lamestream nonsense like Taylor Swift (he says he has never heard of her lol). Sinner is hugely respected by great people, the new Pope respects and likes him as does the Italian PM Meloni. He is a credit to our sport.

"Police and ******...get out of my way...don't need to buy none of your gold chains today."

Look man, I know you're one of these hard-right guys and I'm trying to be respectful of that even though I disagree. But if you really think a song that says "immigrants and fa**ots, make no sense to me" and "police and n***ers, stay out of my way" doesn't contain racist lyrics then I'm not sure how to have a reasonable conversation with you.

Its not racist though is it. I say that as rappers use that term all the time in their songs and have done for decades.

When a white dude says it to a black person it is racist, dude. Any normal person knows this. You are too old to be acting like a 20yo edgelord

And Axl literally said he wrote the song to **** off the black guys who tried to hustle him in LA

So are you saying rap music is racist? I am not hard right at all. Im a centrist. You have picked up two lines out of an entire song and seem to be trying to slur Sinner for saying it was his favourite song (i think he said that but could have been a different one on that album but im sure he mentioned the word million and Lies).
That song was critically acclaimed as well written and had a good soundtrack. If Sinner, or anyone for that matter, likes it, what is the issue?

Sorry that is legally incorrect and an example of two-tier justice. There has been loads of debates about this years ago as i am sure you are aware of. What the hell is an edgelord? Some sort of warlock?
Axl said what his marketing team told him to say. Ultimately music is about making money.

An "edgelord" is a guy who likes to say provocative things and then call other people babies/play the victim when their provocative words actually provoke. Have definitely got that impression of you before today and this just cements it. Anyone reasonable understands that the N-word is completely different in meaning depending on who's sending/receiving it.

Edgelords say things like "women shouldn't vote" or "black guys say n-----, why can't I?"

There is no universe in which Lies is generally considered one of the best albums of the 20th century. The only Guns N' Roses album that matters artistically to music fans at large, rather than to hardcore GN'R devotees, is Appetite for Destruction. The rest of the band's output is essentially a series of footnotes to their one significant work.
