Is There A String That Is VERY Similar To...

Luxilon BB Alu Power and/or Luxilon BB Alu Rough? Here is my predicament (probably the same as many other Luxilon lovers on this forum)...

1. I absolutely love playing with BB Alu Power Rough.

2. It does, however, seem to go dead/"change" after about 4 hours of play.

3. Even though I string for myself, $14.50 per set can quickly become costly - as I need to re-string about twice a week in the winter months and more fequently in the summer months.

So... Is there another poly out there that plays very similarly to Alu Power / Alu Power Rough AND costs less? OR... Is there another poly out there that plays very similarly to Alu Power / Alu Power Rough that holds tension much better and does not go dead as quickly (even if cost is similar)?

While BA is loved on these boards and is inexpensive, I've read where it tends to be a softer poly than Alu. (Based on kind feedback from jcstennis and PED).

Blue Gear? CyberFlash? (NickB says CyberFlash is known as the "poor man's Luxilon".) Other?

Besides Alu, the only other poly I've tried was SPPP, but I did not like it at all - felt kind of muted.

If there is nothing that compares to Alu, then so be it, and I'll have to decide between playability and cost.

Thanks Gang.

Have you played with both Alu and CyberFlash? Or just CyberFlash? Any additional input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

i have played with cyberflash and ALU rough and i can say that i prefer cyberflash, but that is mainly because it is available in thinner gauges.

they are pretty much identical in play, but i think cyberflash goes much longer before going dead and is under $4 a set if bought in reel form :D

I don't know about Signum Pro Megaforce, Unique Big Hitter Blue is not very good IMO. It feels like slippery plastic, has no feel, plays rather hard, and gives no spin IMO.

That is music to my ears - identical play, better tension maintenance for CF, and much lower price for CF. I just bought two sets of Alu Power Rough and one set of Alu Power today. I'll string 'em up, and once they die, I will definitely try CF.

Thanks for the comparison.

Sorry to jack the thread but how does Big Ace compare to the two? I've been looking at trying cyberflash while I'm currently using Big Ace

david- no problem, thats what im here for :D

BLuu- big ace is MUCH softer and more powerful(but with better feel) then either ALU or big ace, and if you are going to use cyberflash, you need to lower tension quite a bit

I love APR (Alu Power Rough) but when I tried Cyberflash, I didn't like it at all. I think it might be the tension (APR was at 54 and CF at 57) but CF was still pretty powerful but felt stiff. APR on the other hand felt nice with good power

well at 3 lbs higher tension it is going to feel stiffer.. and what gauge did you use?

I thought Cyberflash was too mushy. Polystar Energy/ Turbo are more crisp and about $6 a stringjob if you buy by the reel.

I used 17L for CF. The 3lbs higher explains the stiff feel but it doesn't account for the high power. It felt stiff but still powerful. I'm thinking that if I tried it at 54 (like APR), then it wouldn't be as stiff but it'd be more powerful (which I don't want).

CF i always thought was a touch stiffer than ALU, but the CF in a full job has nice control.

I play this set up in a MG Radical MP, it's not too bad and and i can't believe how long it has lasted: Head Ultra Tour 17 mains and Head FXP 17 Crosses... this hybrid i would describe as medium... ok spin, ok feel, ok power, etc... but the tension has been better than average. I have not played Ultra Tour as a full job yet, but if that is the half that is holding tension in this set up, then the Ultra Tour should be looked at....

Have you looked into Gamma ZO Tour Rough?

Not yet. I actually have a set of Gamma Zo Tour (not rough) that was a free sample through my USRSA membership but haven't strung it up yet. I have never been a huge fan of Gamma strings, so I haven't been in a hurry to try it. I'll try it before too long.

From what you said above I'm safe to assume that you meant ALU or cyberflash right? :)

The strings that have been mentioned (CyberFlash, Signum Megforce) play similar to ALU, but IMO not ALU ROUGH. The Rough version does have more traction on the ball. The new Gamma Tour Rough acutally has a little more traction, plays a little softer, and also has excellent control.
