Is there anything likeable about Sock?

He mopes around like a moody frat boy.

He appears devoid of any charisma and charm.

His game is fairly one dimensional.

Besides appealing to Americans desperate for a home grown champ, what is there to root for when Sock is on court?

A lot of the narcissists and assholes in this world are very charasmatic and charming, so this shouldn't be used as a criticism.

Yes fair enough, in isolation that is not a fair comment, and I take that back.

Many people thinks Kyrgios has charisma and he could also be described as a narcissist etc and he is well loved and seen as good for game in terms of the entertainment value he brings.

I have seen quite a lot of moping by him against Goffin recently and in his Paris matches. But credit to his perseverance as he pulled out some hard fought three set wins this week.

If there is ever a Platonic form or archetype corresponding to a Burger King employee, Sock would be it. Yet he's somehow a tennis player, or at least moonlights as one when he's not flipping burgers. This is why I like Sock.

Yes, maybe Sock is likeable due to his relative ordinariness compared to his more glamours competitors.

It's not a players obligation to be charming. As long as they don't act out, cause unwarranted controversy or behave abusive towards the officials and other players, they are allowed to just be themselves.

Had a beer with him in Cincy years back. Very down to earth was my take. Two wins from the WTF. That's not too shabby.
And don't forget, WTF field is incredibly weak. If you go there in decent form, there's a chance to rack up to 800/1000 points more, and get the most random YE top 5 of all time

Seems like a nice enough fella and a good sport. I don't know the man so can only address his tennis.

I'm not a fan of these forehand's from anywhere at any time and he's the king of it. When it comes to really bad backhand's his is only topped by Raonic and Johnson and it's a close call. I'm not a fan of any of them when they're on the court.

Moping, grunting, screaming at yourself... none of that bothers me, we all do battle in our own way. As long as it's not gamesmanship or completely out of control I see no problem with it.

American.
Plays a good level of tennis even though his backhand and movement are less than smoove.
Looks like a baseball player.
Competitive but also pretty chill.
Speaks in a little less of a monotone than the average American guy his age.
Probably fun to practice and do drills with.
Freakydeaky forehand.
Not my style of player, but what a blast to watch him butcher a doubles team.
The guy's name is Jack Sock.

I mean.... I guess his FH is kinda entertaining to watch in the sense that its like a circus show shot... other than that... I can't watch the guy.

Great all-round guy, I think
Lots of charisma and positive, energetic body language on court
Never a bitter handshake no matter how bitter the loss. Always warm at the net
Quite multicultural for someone who could be your archetypal 'All American' - good friends w/loads of guys and girls on Tour, notably Kygrios
Used to date Sloane Stevens and they're still on good terms
Blasts that forehand and plays an all-out attacking game - never flat or boring
My boy Jack

Just because of this, I dig this guy. We can argue whatever you like about his tennis (his dreadful BHspecially) but he looks like a cool guy. I love the fact, also, that he is a great doubles player and know something about being at the net, something a lot of players dont know at all right now (Alexander Zverev and Dominic Thiem the first ones I think about it)

He's got a rep for good sportsmanship and seems chilled.

He has Federeresque variety compared to Isner or Querrey

Can't see much wrong with him myself but everyone has different tastes.
