Is there even a point of the French Open this year?

Nadal is on a hot streak, and will probably destroy anyone in his way. Novak is not playing his best tennis, Thiem is not playing his best tennis and Roger, well lol, he is not even in the picture.

But Roland Garros was the only slam to have all 4 top seeds make the semi-finals in 2019, and then the top 2 seeds made the final in 2020, so we bank on Roland Garros to give us the best match-ups in tennis, while the other slams give us snooze-fests like this year's AO (Djokovic vs. qualifier SF) and last year's USO (slamless players in the Final).

Nadal is not in top form yet and there is no guarantee he will get there at his age. Recent history says he will probably will get there but nothing is a certainty. If he reaches top form in Madrid or Rome then you can complain.

While I largely agree, Nadal despite winning Barcelona has not looked great to be honest. It's another matter altogether that nobody is good enough to take down this lacklustre, jaded Claydal. Shows how good he is and especially powerful his aura is on this surface. Peak Thiem can take down this Nadal, but Thiem is MIA it seems. All set for #21 I guess.

What hot streak is Nadal on though? I don't expect a routine fortnight at Roland Garros at all, although he is a favorite. The way he played last year gives reason for optimism.

Yes the point is for you to bump this jinx thread when Nadal loses to Novak and then accumulate as many likes, subs and other social media popularity that you crave so much. It's the state of the world and truly sad and pathetic. But don't worry your jinx thread is now jinxed with antibodies.

Absolutely my thoughts. Hopefully Thiem still has time

Nadal winning RG is as near a certainty in life as you can get.

We've seen this countless times before... Rafa looks a bit rusty in the beginning of the clay season, then once RG comes around he doesn't lose a set. I remember last year in Rome, Nadal looked more than human against Schwartzman, he even looked slow, but then RG came around and he spanked Djokovic around in the final like it was nothing.

Thiem won't be at his best and even if he was, would it be enough? 2018 and 2019 tell us it probably wouldn't. Djokovic doesn't show up at RG at all since his lone title, but of course, when Wimbledon comes around he's a mental giant lol. Tsitsipas? RG is a different beast when facing Rafa there. Same goes for Schwartzman and all other contenders.

This is correct in my opinion. After all, Tsitsipas had a match point and was not playing that well from what I saw.

Actually I agree with beard. For once :D

Nadal fans should not get ahead of themselves. I think there is no point in already celebrating RG21. What do you get from already celebrating? If he wins, you gonna celebrate soon enough, but if he loses, you'll make all Nadal fans look like fools.

I hope he wins 21 at RG21, but we should wait until he actually won it before we celebrate.

Nobody else find it a weird coincidence that if Nadal wins, it would be the 3rd consecutive time the Slam Record has been broken at the new place holder's favourite Slam? I mean, going back even Emerson broke Tilden at his best Slam too. So technically 4 in a row not counting Tilden in a time where most players stayed at their home tournaments (though he did win 3 Wimbledons).

No Nadal fan is getting ahead of themselves, as far as I know. Correct me if I'm wrong.

OP is not a Nadal fan as well.
Seems like most Nadal fans are doing what their favourite does - taking it one match at a time. Still work to be done, but quiet confidence that he will find the right solutions at the right time.
