Is there some hope ????

He’ll make at least the QFs. Charlie is a little flakey on hard courts so there’s hope there. Getting past Sinner though will be very tough.

Not much chance in ao this year but that also doesn't mean no chance of slam wins. He can win everywhere.

But ao was his best chance. Draws need to open some injuries or so for opponents. Let's see.

Thinking logically, based on his first two matches you wouldn't really pick him to beat either of the Czech dudes in front of him, but I suppose one of them just having gone the distance could prove a factor, and if Bonzi upsets the other one then that'd help, but right now you'd assume he needs to step up big time from where he's at.

You also have to consider Lehecka's curses possibly coming into the equation. Dude has had 3 of his last 4 opponents retire. Will Novak even WANT to play him? Does he have a witch in his box?

Disappointing to see Nishesh and Faria outhit Djokovic often and make him run around desperately during long rallies while they had better court position. Also saw a data flash on TV that he is hitting his FH and BH several miles slower than 2024 in the first two matches of the AO which was already slower on the FH than 2023. He didn’t look like the dominating Darth Vader he used to be on Rod Laver arena. Shades of the passive player who just did enough to win in 2012-mid 2014 - he can’t win like that with his late-thirties movement against the more offensive young guys. I’m not sure he makes it to Alcaraz in the QF and if he does, it might not be pretty.

Djokovic has to suddenly turn into his 2023 version if he wants to make it to the final.

I see a round 16 or quarter final exit. Think he will win his next match but will be tough. I can see him losing to lehecka in last 16 or alcaraz in quarters at latest. If he makes the 2nd week it still a good achievement. Hard courts is the most competitive surface and a lot more players can beat him on that surface now.
He will make quarters (lose his next match and i really will want him to retire soon as do not want to see his career fade away) in my view but i cannot see anyway he beats Alcaraz unless Alcaraz has a really bad day, but Alcaraz you just know will want to right the (as he sees it) wrong of the olympics and he will be zoning. its too much for 37 year old Novak. Tennis is still a young mans game, the Big 3 were an anamoly

Djoker will beat Alcaraz in the quarters, but if he wants to beat Sinner in the final (redBaron will be there unless Fonseca becomes Brolymode) he will need to find his 2019 AO version that obliterated Nadal.

True point. I agree with what you saying but I just enjoy seeing him play now. I obviously don’t have the same expectations like before. Even if it just for another year and see if he can even win a smaller title to try get 100 titles or over. I understand though if he decided to stop after this year if he drops further down. It his call at the end of the day.

I’ll be honest, i don’t think Novak can best the top players right now. But the thing is, I can never count him out no matter what. He looked rough vs his first two opponents, but interestingly it seems the coach Murray has been really helping him during matches. He even said that Murray gave him amazing advice midway through his first round match. I think that could be the difference maker. But I’m just picturing Novak vs Sinner or Carlos right now. I think he would get demolished sadly. But we’ll see

He needs to play at high level or 3 rd opponnent is taking him down.
What tennis expert thinks ??
Machac probably feels a lot more hope after watching the first two sets of each of the first two rounds played by his opponent. Djokovic looked more like prey rather than predator in 3 of the 4 sets.

Yes, its nice seeing the legends still playing if they are playing well. However, too often (Federer Agassi Nadal most recent examples, Lendl before them) Top ATGS hust whither away and its painful to see.
If Djokovic say loses to Alcaraz in a 5 hour 5 setter of sublime quality obviously there would be nothing to be disappointed about for him at this stage, it would only enhance his legacy further. Do not want to witness a beatdown though, its depressing as from a personal view just rams home the realities of getting old.

There was a nasty, nasty slice BH he hit to win a point vs the Brazilian guy, and it was disguised as a 2H drive. That is 100% the Murray Effect--never seen Djoko try that shot before. It was almost Musetti/Federer like, it was a bullet with backspin

Fans will not mind novak loss if he shows the fight . Loosing easily will be damaging going forward. Opelka like upset is not required at slam level.
