Is this just how long strings last?

Hey beautiful talktennis members!

I have been hitting 3-4 hours a day lately and have broken a string every day. My current setup is a VCore 98 with Diadem Solstice Power 16L at 52lbs strung one piece. Is there anything I can change about my stringing to get more durability?

It’s fine If I am at the point where I break strings this often, but it would be nice to not have to string every day.

Assuming there are no issue with the stringing itself, then going up a gauge to 1.30 or 1.35 will increase string life. It might also be worth checking your grommets to make sure they aren't causing any issues whilst stringing which may damage the string.

Ok, I will try the thicker version of this string sometime soon. Do you think I have to worry about the grommets if I only break the strings in the middle on all 3 racquets? Thanks for the help!

It is a soft, sharp-edged poly so expected to notch quickly in a full bed. Try hybriding with a round poly in the crosses. Diadem Flash 16L is excellent and what I use.

Ok, cool. Do you string full bed of flash or pair it with something else?

That along with the vcore having very wide string spacing, it's going to happen

I assume you like how Solstice Power plays, so use that in the mains and Flash in the crosses. Since mains move the most, they are the ones that get notches the fastest. A round poly in the crosses will cut a lot less.

Maybe try stringing a few pounds lower, I string in the upper 40s and feel like it's harder to break strings.
As others have said, go to a thicker guage.
Sadly you may have to find a new string if neither of those work.

This doesn't sound impossible but does sound unusual to me. Is this new or has this happened for a while? Is it happening on multiple racquets? I'm assuming you hit with a lot of both power & spin.

Yea, it happens on all three of my racquets. I’d like to think I hit a heavy ball but have no way to confirm it.

you must be crushing the ball with heavy top! I don’t break that often (closer to 10h), and i’ve switched to isospeed baseline 15g just to extend mean time to breaking :p

Like others said go up to a 16g 1.30mm and try Diadem Flash 16g in the crosses.

If you’re still breaking it that fast try a full racquet of Diadem Flash

Its highly unlikely but its worth checking just in case the string is being damaged when it is being pulled through the grommets.

@Hunter Rice , Don't laugh or roll your eyes, ahhh... never mind, do what you will. A 28yr old 5.0 from a neighboring city contacted me and told me he was breaking 16g poly too fast for his wallet. His mom and sis are teaching pros, but he opted for a career as a pilot in Special Operations Aviation. I told him to bring me one of his Pure Drives and I'll put something in it that will be kind of like poly but will last a lot longer. He brought me a racket and I strung it with 16 Ashaway Kevlar mains and 17g Ashaway Zyex in the crosses at 62/58lbs (pretty big tension losses till it settles in for the long haul). He took the racket and after 2 weeks he told me he was totally satisfied and brought me 2 more PDs to string the same. He tells me is happy with the string, but I haven't seen him for a couple of months. He is getting a lot of mileage out of that string.

If you saw me hitting with a Cortex APD strung with Forten Sweet 17 at 56lbs today you would have had a chuckle. The guy I was hitting with was a former D1 player who at 58 is 9 yrs younger than me and complaining about the spin I was generating. That APD felt great and I thought it was quite fun. But when I started to get tired I grabbed a Cortex APD GT strung with Ash Kev x ZX to get more control over my increasing flailing shots until I had to call a halt of the nonsense. I just like hitting tennis balls and laughing on court, nothing more.

I like Forten Sweet 17 myself. That's what I installed in my son's Gravity 26" for his first "real tennis racquet."

And I like the 16 ga (esp in the gold) in a retro stringbed such as old Pro Staffs and MIA HEAD frames.

Hey thanks for bringing my attention to this setup. I will definitely look into it.
