Is this what makes Murray so good at rallying?

In this clip Murray plays a forehand stroke which is deep but has an usually heavily exaggerated amount of topspin on it. Nalbandian clearly thinks that he has played a shorter forehand because of the sound of the racket and the amount of topspin Murray has put on the ball. Nalbandian then decided to play a shorter forehand down the middle of the court because of this thought which was actually a mistake. After this forehand from Nalbandian, Murray should have played a DTL forehand to finish the point but he was not being aggressive enough. He had already constructed the point well. Because of this lack of aggressiveness, Nalbandian wins the point two shots later which he should not have.

He does the exact same thing here. He plays a deep CC FH with exaggerated topspin. Federer was thinking because of the way he set up to hit the ball and the topspin he put on the ball that Murray's forehand was going to be a short forehand. But the forehand was not short and Federer plays a short forehand which he should not have. Murray has the chance to the finish the point with a big forehand.....but he doesn't again because of the lack of aggression in this instance. Federer wins the point three shots later.

After Nadal hits a powerful forehand to Murray's backhand, Murray responds with a slice backhand back to Nadal's forehand. Nadal is surprised by this has he now is unable to hit a forehand DTL as he is not very good at disguising this shot will little pace and he is forced to go back cross court. Murray soon after won the point.

Murray plays various shots which surprise his opponents.

So is this what makes Murray so good at rallying?

Murray hits the CC forehand with heavy topspin all the time. It certainly works against Federer and Nadal as shown by his respectable results against them.

More than unpredictability the man has crazy wheels. He can instantly recover from an injury when he starts winning. He also has an excessively large mouth.

In the pros, you have to hit surprise shots to win points...
Unless you're Verdasco/Soderling/Del Potro/Gulbis.

That first link probably contains the most insane match highlight reel you'll ever see.

Murray is good because he tries to make it look like he's actually HITTING the ball but really the shots are pushed? Oh and then follow it with a drop shot.

I'm suprised you didn't talk about that same slice he did in Toronto against Rafa I can't really remember where but anyways Andy got aggressed by Rafa's FH and Rafa was awaiting a slice DTM with Andy's BH but got a angled sharp slice Rafa completely suprised was he going to hit the shot and lose the point afterwards.

One shot I really like about Andy FH is when he gets attacked on that side DTL he lifts the ball so that it gets a high bounce out wide to your FH side - it gets you unbalanced and very uncomfortable almost impossible to hit through the ball in that situation and even if you do so with his short backswing on the BH he utilizes the power of the shot with some fair amount of lift and angle to keep you on the run... I really liked that play against Nalbandian in Toronto.

That FH I really like when you are facing players who love turning around their FHs e.g Tsonga Montréal 2009 it really puts them in a very uncomfortable situation at once against Fed that doesn't at all so I barely see him do that sort of play. This is a play I often see use against Del po too but Murray plays with the probability that Del po might not hita lightening FH when he's out of position.

One shot I also like on his BH too but I have a hard time telling if its intentional or not is when he gets aggressed with an inside out FH by his opponent he really gets the ball to be high to his opponent not in their striking zone and especially not to their BH to prevent any easy DTL most of the time the opponent feels trapped and doesn't know what to do with the ball e.g Nalbandian most recently in Toronto where it was easy to read as soon as Murray hit that shot and Nalb had turn around his BH that the dropper was coming.

I also like how Murray utilizes the slice and the possible scenarios he gets after he uses that shot... unfortunately not always with an aggressive outcome... anyways my favorite is the very slow slice down the line which kinds of forces the opponent to go cross court without him hitting through the ball as much then from that situation Andy has his favorite cross-court top spin FH or a flat FH DTL as Andy likes playing safe he will most likely hit the diag... If the shot comes on his backhand depending on who he's playing he might lean into the ball in the diagonal to be more aggressive e.g against Rafa or kind of roll it in back playing on the probabilities that the opponent hits a DTL... to still yet again hit one of his favorite shots blastering FH diagonal on the run... if the DTL is longer he will kind of get back down the middle or if there are probabilities that he gets aggressed get the shot shorter in the diagonal to force the opponent to hit lift and close the his DTLs possibilites.

I hope Murray puts Pusher Andy in the closet until the next FO and brings out Attacker Andy for USO, WTF, AO etc.

Attacker Andy could be a slam winner.
