Now that he's made the AO final, has Timmy's HC achievements surpassed those on clay?

Here's the tale of tape.

HC:
1 slem F (outcome TBD) and 1 QF

1 Tour Finals F

1 MS1000 W

5 titles (1 250, 3 500's, and the aforementioned MS1000)

CC:
2 slem F and 2 SF

2 MS1000 F

10 titles on (8 250's, 2 500)

Right now, I think he's still better on clay, even with his lone big title coming from a HC tourney. However, should he win the AO I don't think anyone can debate that he'd be more successful on hard.

I am so sad that Thiemmy could not play on blue clay.

Yep, Thiem is better on HC's, and if he pulls off the upset against Djoker, there is no denying that he is a well rounded player that has HC's as their best surface. To be honest, I think even with a loss you can argue Thiem is better on HC at this point.

He hasn't won a big title on clay either (yet a lot of people are now expecting him to win RG). He's now made multiple big title finals on both surfaces. I just wanted to see if people now view him as a better HC player. Joker is absolutely the favorite and my pick to win, but no thread on a tennis forum is going to affect the outcome of a match.

With a career best 4R at Wimby, Li’l Timmie has a bit of work to get into best non-Big3 conversation even if he wins Sunday.

Right now it's all a bit moot, so you're asking a bit early. But if he wins the AO, a hardcourt king for a day is always better than being the perennial prince of clay.

This is a perfect example, how people are lost in numbers and absent minded statistics.
Thiem is by far better and more dominant player on clay. AO and IW titles title dont change that. That is why context matter, the existense of Nadal on RG is what stopped Thiem in Paris

If he wins Sunday he absolutely becomes the best of the players who are not within the Big 3's age range and I dont see much of an argument that would be made against him.

He’s already the best under age 32 player...3 slam finals >>> 1 slam final; even on M1K titles, and way ahead on 250/500s plus a new higher ranking...#3 if Thiem wins, #4 if he loses.

Del Po and Cilic both have majors
Zverev has 3 Masters + London + peak rank #3

Think Thiem has to win Sunday to clearly be rated above all 3 of them.
