Is Topspin CF and Gosen OGSM still the best bang for your buck hybrid??

If you're willing to spend a few more bucks. Topspin Concept Pure does many things a little better than Cyber Flash. Softer (but not mushy), better feel, and maybe a little more durable.

I am really enjoying my BHBR17/Forten Nylon 16 hybrid. Lots of bite on the ball and comfortable too.

It is, if you like a crisp cross. I liked Forten Sweet as a cross, but that was when I had arm problems and needed the softness. Will try spiral flex as a cross sometime soon, as I don't have any Gosen.

BHBR is great bang for the buck and the 17 with OGSM17 cross is a solid hybrid at any price.
I do a lot of these. Highly recommended.

Some people believe using a synthetic gut in your crosses is the way to go, as the poly will dominate in the feel (and somewhat power) department. Less notching/fraying with less fibers should lead to better string snap from the poly which should lead to better spin.

I use BHBR 17 in mains and try various strings in the crosses but usually come back to Forten Sweet 17. At $1.50 a half set it's hard to beat and the feel/playability is on point.

Hopping in because I just got in some CF 1.20 and will string it up with some OGSM 17 in the crosses. I have an 18x20 Blade.

I do think this setup is probably one of the best possible for the price, but I will spend some time with it and see what the weaknesses are.

Two words: Tension Loss

1. Topspin Cyberflash 17L is one of the worst strings on record in terms of initial tension loss. Ranks #214 out of 239 Polys tested. When strung at a reference tension of 51 lbs, (and with a fast swing speed) it suffered a 30lb loss after a few good whacks with the test hammer, settling in at 21 lbs. Wow.

2. CyberFlash 16 fares a little better at #125, losing 23.6 lbs.

3. The Poly with the #1 best tension maintenance digits, Luxillon 4G 1.25, lost only 10.8 lbs under the same exact test conditions, settling in at a much more acceptable 40.2 lbs.

4. I know, I know, the lab is not the court. A test hammer is not a tennis ball. But it's really hard to ignore such a huge indicator like this. Cyberflash is pulling digits indicating initial tension loss 2-3 times greater than the polys that were designed to minimize tension loss, like the 4G and the LTec Premiums.

5. That huge tension loss also a big part of why it's testing with such low stiffness numbers, if it's actual pre-stiffness testing tension is 21 lbs, of course it's going to pull very low stiffness, high comfort numbers.

Its funny you mention 4g as that is the string that I really want to try next as a main.

I will use the racquettune app and my own play testing experience. Let's see how the CF does in real world results for me, but it makes sense due to the price.

My last main was Cofocus. It lasted 6 hours and then just lost enough tension for the strings to move everywhere.

I'd take a hard look at MSV Co-Focus with OGSM. It is what I was using before I switched to Gut/Poly, now I still use the Co-Focus in the crosses.

I just mentioned it - its a 6 hour setup..not really good life for a hybrid IMO.

great control though while it lasted. comfort was not the best.

I see myself buying 4g 16l and crossing with OGSM 17 for a really good setup.

I just finished stringing this up in my 7G! I'm excited, yet somewhat worried about it. It felt like I was combining razor wire with rubber wire. If it holds up, I think it might be a great set up.

I am still enjoying my bhbr/forten nylon hybrid after ~10 hrs. Still getting good bite on the ball with good pop and comfort. I hope it works out for you too.

Its different as main. Not nearly as good. As for a cross, i think Black Magic is better as well. The feel and pocketing of your string bed will bring you great joy with BM as a cross.

Cool, thanks for the heads up PP. I will put Black Magic on my demo list for a cross with gut for sure.
