Is Wawrinka now a better player than Murray?

It's mad how people can say Wawrinka is better than Murray. I love Wawrinka, I really do but how is he better? Like how? 2-2 in slams, then go to the tie-break, and in nearly every single metric Murray is on top. Slam finals, semi-finals, consecutive quarterfinals, Masters 1000, H2H vs. the Big Three etc.
Wawrinka is a modern day Patrick Rafter.

Andy Murray is a more impressive player.

The point is Wawrinka is a better player NOW. Who cares what happened years ago or how many Masters titles Murray has. I'm sure everyone would agree Djokovic is a better player than Federer, despite Federer holding 17 grand slams to Djokovic's 10. The past is the past. The present is what matters.

Don't come the innocent. You are actually right that there is a potentially legitimate discussion about who is actually the better player at this moment in time but the tone of your opening post, so sarcastic and hostile to Murray and his past achievements, exposed your true intentions which is obviously just to take pot shots at Murray by trying to use Wawrinka as the gun.

We all quickly saw through you. You've been well and truly rumbled!

Better is different than greater so a less accomplished player (which Murray clearly is in everyway, even in slam wins both have 2 but if you have the same number Wimbledon + U.S Open > French + Australian Open). So it would be possible for Stan to be a better player despite being less accomplished. I would say he isn't though. It could be argued his peak level is higher (even that would be iffy IMO, and varies by surface) but Murray is a zillion times more consistent, and also has been a really good player a lot longer than Stan who has been for roughly 3 years and just a pretty good player before that, that Murray is the "better" player as well as the greater one.

Stan's performance in the USO against Roger was pathetic.

It was terrible. In fact his performances all summer have been pathetic. Getting his butt kicked by Kygrios so quits with fake injury and then amplifies the controversy to cover up his own poor performance. Gets 5 games off Djokovic in Cincy. Terrible at the U.S Open, only wins 2 more games than DONALD freaking YOUNG, and is then a double fault and error barrage vs Federer in their joke of a semi final after getting a virtual bye over gassed Anderson. With Stan people only seem to remember his Stanimal moments and dismiss all else as if they don't exist. Some people seem to think he plays like RG this year, Monte Carlo last year, his U.S Open matches vs Murray, or his Australian Open matches vs Djokovic all the time. Meanwhile Murray's best moments are usually accompanied by an excuse of sorts (too windy, opponent tired, opponent needed a pee break at the wrong time, etc..).
