Isner the featured night match on Ashe??

Whose genius idea was that? I realize there are slim pickings for shameless promotion since Roddick decided to spoil their party, but still.

USTA should be ashamed, but I guess I'm not that surprised since USO is after all the most commercial and crass slam.

It's awful to watch. Isner is almost unwatchable, and he's getting somewhat arrogant as well.

America needs more Agassis and Changs

It's common practice to have the more marquee matches play the day session during Labor Day weekend. I don't know why it's such a surprise to so many on here, it's gone on as long as I can remember at the USO.

I agree, Isner isn't watchable. They could have put Murray and wawrinka tonight on Ashe.
If Isner is the best American tennis can offer then its very sad when 8 spanish players are in round of 16.

Until Amercian tennis factories learn that tennis a running game, John Isner is all you are going to get, with a little Mid Western Harrison on top. Who can't run either.

The "better" matches are always played during Labor Day weekend so that CBS can air them. It has nothing to do with slim pickings. Even if Roddick were still in the tournament he would not be playing a night match this weekend.

Thanks, that explains it. Although giving more coverage to CBS is an outrage in itself :)

The USTA didn't give any coverage to CBS or any broadcast network, foreign or domestic. CBS paid more than anyone, so they naturally get preferential treatment from the USTA.

I don't mind it so much, with Youzhny and Isner it was a fairly even match up and it promised to be a good match. With the big name players in the early rounds the matches are often very one sided and they aren't great to watch. Tomorrow for instance we have Federer and Melzer, which will probably last an hour and a bit.

They could of put Nadal and Simon on at night but it was always going to be simple for Nadal, at least we got a fairly tight match with Isner and Youzhny. I personally would of gone with Murray and Wawrinka tonight as they had a great 5 setter at Wimbledon under the lights, but the idea behind Isner and Youzhny was fairly solid imo.

yeah I felt the same way.. He has the American cockiness in his attitude.. He did not have it last year but somehow he got it in 2010.. Sam Querry is still the guy who is really humble and fight on the court

Blame Brit TV for no Murray night matches, or so I've heard and read over the past few days. The Brits want Murray's matches in prime time UK, which means he has to play during the day. That's the reason for the lack of night matches for Andy.

Yeah, I was one of the ones talking about it :)

Still, as a British fan who stays up to watch the night matches, obviously i'd of liked it if he was the night match. The fans who put sleep and work before Murray aren't real fans! haha ;)

No, America does not need more players with Agassi & Chang styles. Not enough Tylenol and Rolaids to distribute to the population.
Why not Agassi, man? He was a beast from the baseline. He took everything on the rise and wasnt a topspin junkie like most players today. Additionally, he made tennis quite popular.
