Isn't the K90 sweetspot larger than the 98 Fed is considering?

A lot of the larger frames sold actually have a smaller sweetspots than Fed's current racquet. I guess the point is more strings on the ball, faster racquet head speed and more modern materials? The K90 has crazy plow thru compared to most frames on the tour. What would Fed be getting that's an improvement?

Whatever you think he is playing, its not likely a shelf model. When equally weighted and balanced the 90 would have no real advantage at the level he plays and more impotantly that he plays against.. Also, boxbeams tend to not be stable in the bigger sizes, l east the shelf models that they have had. It might be stdategy to use a more aero frame because of the bigger head to get the racket to come around similar to a smaller frame.

The new racquet is most likely customized, close to his preferred specs -- since TW's power potential measurements, which a lot of people take to mean the "sweet spot size" correlate strongly with swingweight and twistweight, customization will likely negate this effect.

More importantly, be careful how you interpret TWU's power potential measurements. For one, if the sweetspot were simply defined by the power potential, the area near the throat would be the optimal "sweetspot"--clearly this goes against intuition/experience. TWU itself has a nice (but not often visited page) that illustrates how the power potential is just one factor in determining shot speed (and proceeds to explain the more intuitive observation that shot speed is maximal when balls are hit in the middle).

This isn't even including a discussion of how vibrations affect what we perceive as the "sweetspot" (which is 99% of the time what people are referring to when they say the sweetspot feels big/small).

I think he was talking about "free power" not the sweet spot. I don't think he really cares about that too much if he had no problem using a 85 and 90 for the past few years.
