Isospeed cream or TRU PRO (formerly Tier One Sports) ghost wire?

GW is softer and offers different gauges.

GW comes in 1.27mm, 1.22mm, 1.17mm, and 1.10mm
Cream comes in 1.23mm and 1.28mm

I don't find 1.22 GW softer than 1.28mm Isospeed Cream at all, so our experiences differ. I don't find either of them particularly stiff, but I do find GW stiffer than Cream. I have been hitting with GW in various hybrids such as Lux NG/ GW, Hyper G Soft / GW, and Firewire/ GW since this summer. I string a lot of Isospeed Cream (mostly for 3.5 men and 4.0 women with Head Velocity crosses) and have used it with Lux NG /Cream hybrids and in a Cream/ Tecnifibre HDX Tour hybrid. Isospeed Cream is notably softer to my hands when stringing it than Ghostwire.

In terms of stiffness of these three strings, I find 1.25mm Yonex Poly Tour Air (the softest) < 1.28 mm Isopeed Cream (in the middle)< 1.22 Ghostwire (the stiffest). I string quite a bit of each of those three strings, but GW definitely feels stiffer in my frames. I have 20+ packs of Cream (for mains at $7 a pack) and a reel of it ordered at $119 a reel, two reels of YPTA, and two reels of Ghostwire. I also hit with each of those strings in a full bed before stringing them for clients.

The reel of Cream is strictly for use as a cross string in 95 to 100 square frames with 16x19 patterns. 660' / 16.5' = 40 sets of crosses for any 16x 18/19 frame in a 100 square inch frame or smaller.

I've also used both gauges of Cream as a cross often, and I'm not sure if I gain anything from GW if they are close in stiffness (1.22GW = 181, 1.28Cream = 178).

Thank you , and yes, perfect. I completely forget about the Yonex Poly Tour Air, which is a very good option, even if I never tried it, I’m sure i won’t be disappointed on the crosses.

The measured stiffness ratings are a discrete measurement which is certainly a great starting point, but Cream and Ghostwire feel very different to my arm. Think of my reasoning from the view of discrete vs continuous variables. TW's database takes one measurement of a string's stiffness, the discrete measurement recording it as a starting point. Now, once the frame is strung, then the string is used in a frame, that measurement is now continuously changing, as tension begins to drop. This is where I feel GW feels stiffer. Why? GW holds its tension very well for a softer poly.

Same frame, same tension. NG/Cream vs NG/Ghostwire. A full bed of Cream vs Full bed of Ghostwire. Each player is different and some players feel the differences between strings and some don't. Much like Cyclone and Cyclone Tour, Hyper G and Hyper G Soft, some players feel the difference between those two strings and others don't.

To my arm, YPTA feels much closer to Cream in stiffness than to Ghostwire as a cross, even though Cream and Ghostwire are closer in initial stiffness measurements. I prefer Ghostwire as a cross personally with NG, HGS, or Firewire mains, but HDMX/YPTA feels softer than Lux NG/Ghostwire to my arm. HDMX/YPTA is buttery soft.

YPTA is expensive by the set. Much better value by the reel. Cream is $7 a pack if you buy 10 packs from TW. A reel of Cream is $119. I use reels of it exclusively for crosses to get the price per cross to $3. Ghostwire on sale is $91 a reel and simply the most versatile smooth poly I have found. Ghostwire my poly equivalent of Head Velocity. GW and Velocity are the Vodkas of tennis string. ;). They can both be mixed with so many other strings.

Hope this helps explain my view of these strings.

I am using the 1.10 version of GW in a 18x20 racquet, it is really really soft and still have fairly good tension stability. I also have the 1.17 GW version, 1.23 Cream and 1.25 YPTA, the 1.10 GW is the softest of the bunch.

glad you found these strings to work for you @Happi

The GW 1.10 version should be softer than 1.23mm Cream and 1.25mm. it is skinny ;)

Which one do you like the best ? Are you using GW in full bed or a corsa

Thanks for the above 2 posts. Great insight. Do you string GW lower to compensate for the stiffer feeling (since it holds tension better)?

I am stringing GW lower than I strung YPTA and Cream in frames. I found 55M FW/ 53 GW works well. When I put HDMX / YPTA I was stringing that at 57M/55x as it is a very soft setup.

What's the tension maintenance of the thinner guage ghostwire like?

I actually just ordered a new reel of Cream, but the rapid loss of control after about 6 hours (as a cross with gut) makes me think about trying GW. It's not sold in Australia, so may be a bit of a pain to source.

I am actually enjoying GW 1.10 in full bed on an Angell TC95 18x20 (very dense string pattern), I have an ERT300 Stringmeter and the GW holds tension quite well. I cut it out after about 6-8 hours of play, as I like fresh poly.

I just strung VS Gut mains with GW 1.17 cross - did not like that, so I cut out the GW and replaced it with Gamma Glide, exited to know how that feels when I play tomorrow. Did you ever try Gamma Glide ?

I also really like YTPA and might get a reel soon, but never clicked with Cream (however I have changed racquets, so I might give it a try again)

Cheers, H

It looses tension like all polys, but about 10-15 % after 6-8 hours, and that is not bad.

There is someone who is distributing T1 for Australia now - $15.95 for set and $159 for reel all gauges

Just use instagram to search it up or google their instagram, as they moved from their official site domain to a generic site to distribute all brands

Thanks, but I don't use Instagram. Strange decision to limit a business to that only.

just another perspective, I wasn't huge fan of Ghostwire (especially after 4-5 hrs), kept using it for another 9-10 hours, before I said enough is enough

It is VERY comfortable for a poly, just lacked some of the control I'm used to from polys

giving Cream a try

let's hope this is better

We are honored how many people enjoy playing with Ghost Wire.

We would like to mention that some polys have a low stiffness rating and some polys offer high tension stability. What makes Ghost Wire (and also Black Knight for that matter) so special is that they perform exceptionally well in both of those categories.

@TierOneSportsOfficial do you have the stiffness numbers for the different gauges of GW. I an very interested in the difference between 1.17 and 1.10

I am really enjoying GW 1.10 in a 95 18x20 racquet.

thanks, H

Definitely my next order.
A lot of players (like me) in their mid 40’s, are looking for a poly really soft, arm friendly, but with all the advantages of a poly ( principally spin and control), and Ghost Wire is definitely one if them!

We found one of the best control oriented but soft setups, in particular for players with high rackets speeds is BK/GW. This is our favorite setup in the Tier One office :)

Played with an isospeed cream hybrid today

compared to ghostwire
- less spin than GW (am using a thicker cream gauge so that could be it too)
- more comfortable/softer than GW (both are comfy though)
- power felt comparable

need to hit with it more to see what I prefer

Played a match with Cream in the mains / Velocity in the crosses

Compared to a full bed of Velocity, I felt the spin was almost the same tbh, but it wasn't as comfortable (though still comfortable enough for my recovering elbow)

If I'm gonna use a soft poly, I want it to act like a poly, otherwise I'd rather just use Velocity

I thought control was pretty good though

Previously I played with NXT in the mains / Ghostwire in the crosses

That was too powerful for me, but had a significant increase in spin from full bed multi

Here's a ranking of my fave setups since coming back from a 7 month break due to elbow problems + lockdown:
1. NXT in the mains / Hawk in the crosses ~ played really well, but not sure if it was helping my elbow (my elbow has actually been feeling better since moving away from this setup)
2. FB Velocity ~ this string is hyped up a lot here, and for good reason, it is my fave multi (I flirted with NXT, but I'm not going back to her, Velocity is the real deal)
3. NXT in the mains / Ghostwire in the crosses ~ a bit too lively / powerful, and I'm not sure if the string job was done bad or something, but I noticed quite a dip in playability and control after 5-6 hours with the string, apparently Ghostwire has great tension maintenance, I just didn't find that from my experience
3. Cream in the mains / Velocity in the crosses ~ good control, but lacking spin (tied with NXT and Ghostwire as I haven't hit with it enough)

I wish I wasn't so picky ~ maybe I should get another racquet to make this string quest faster lol

Future experiments I'm considering:
- FB Triax
- Velocity in the mains / Ghostwire in the crosses (Velocity has better control than NXT, and I might string things higher to get back some more of the control I felt I was missing earlier)
- Triax in the mains / Ghostwire in the crosses (I presume more control than Velocity)
- FB Ghostwire at maybe 44lbs (might be interesting, but might also get me into DANGER territory for my elbow)
- Ghostwire in the mains / Velocity in the crosses (tbh, I don't know that much about strings other than the thing in the mains is more influential, and you gotta be careful with shaped polys in hybrids which ghostwire is not, let me know if this is a bad idea)
- Velocity in the mains / Poly Tour Pro in the crosses (just have a set of PTP at home, and hear it's softer than Hawk so might try it out)
- YPTA hybrid ~ though I've been shy to try that out because of its blue colour #AestheticsMatter

Let me know if you have any thoughts / ideas

Dang it I'm becoming a stringnerd8-B

TL;DR right now I'm favouring Ghostwire over Isospeed Cream because of spin

In terms of comfort level, both strings seem to be fine in a hybrid with multis

In my experience, they are both soft but Cream is so bouncy I almost think of it as a stiffer synthetic gut.

Really interested to try Triax on main and GW crosses.
Triax FB is really good and confortable with a good amount of spin and control, playing with it since 2 weeks, no pain on my elbow ( alu power or bb was obviously better for me, but after 45 mn very intense with an other 5.0, my elbow was hurting so so much no joke!)
But my game needs more spin. ( I played a lot on clay ), so I think this could be my next combo
