Sounds good thank you, I really enjoy the triax full bed, really good, just a little bit muted, I need a copoly on crosses ( soft for sure )
Thanks!

What would be the best gauge for the cross ? (Mains are Triax 1.28mm )GW is softer and offers different gauges.

GW is softer and offers different gauges.
GW comes in 1.27mm, 1.22mm, 1.17mm, and 1.10mm
Cream comes in 1.23mm and 1.28mm
I don't find 1.22 GW softer than 1.28mm Isospeed Cream at all, so our experiences differ. I don't find either of them particularly stiff, but I do find GW stiffer than Cream. I have been hitting with GW in various hybrids such as Lux NG/ GW, Hyper G Soft / GW, and Firewire/ GW since this summer. I string a lot of Isospeed Cream (mostly for 3.5 men and 4.0 women with Head Velocity crosses) and have used it with Lux NG /Cream hybrids and in a Cream/ Tecnifibre HDX Tour hybrid. Isospeed Cream is notably softer to my hands when stringing it than Ghostwire.
In terms of stiffness of these three strings, I find 1.25mm Yonex Poly Tour Air (the softest) < 1.28 mm Isopeed Cream (in the middle)< 1.22 Ghostwire (the stiffest). I string quite a bit of each of those three strings, but GW definitely feels stiffer in my frames. I have 20+ packs of Cream (for mains at $7 a pack) and a reel of it ordered at $119 a reel, two reels of YPTA, and two reels of Ghostwire. I also hit with each of those strings in a full bed before stringing them for clients.
The reel of Cream is strictly for use as a cross string in 95 to 100 square frames with 16x19 patterns. 660' / 16.5' = 40 sets of crosses for any 16x 18/19 frame in a 100 square inch frame or smaller.
Thank you , and yes, perfect. I completely forget about the Yonex Poly Tour Air, which is a very good option, even if I never tried it, I’m sure i won’t be disappointed on the crosses.GW comes in 1.27mm, 1.22mm, 1.17mm, and 1.10mm

I've also used both gauges of Cream as a cross often, and I'm not sure if I gain anything from GW if they are close in stiffness (1.22GW = 181, 1.28Cream = 178).

GW maintains tension much better than Isospeed Cream and YPTA. That's the gain.

I am using the 1.10 version of GW in a 18x20 racquet, it is really really soft and still have fairly good tension stability. I also have the 1.17 GW version, 1.23 Cream and 1.25 YPTA, the 1.10 GW is the softest of the bunch.
Thanks for the above 2 posts. Great insight. Do you string GW lower to compensate for the stiffer feeling (since it holds tension better)?
glad you found these strings to work for you @Happi
The GW 1.10 version should be softer than 1.23mm Cream and 1.25mm. it is skinny
Which one do you like the best ? Are you using GW in full bed or a corsa
What's the tension maintenance of the thinner guage ghostwire like?
I actually just ordered a new reel of Cream, but the rapid loss of control after about 6 hours (as a cross with gut) makes me think about trying GW. It's not sold in Australia, so may be a bit of a pain to source.
There is someone who is distributing T1 for Australia now - $15.95 for set and $159 for reel all gauges
Just use instagram to search it up or google their instagram, as they moved from their official site domain to a generic site to distribute all brands
just another perspective, I wasn't huge fan of Ghostwire (especially after 4-5 hrs), kept using it for another 9-10 hours, before I said enough is enough
We are honored how many people enjoy playing with Ghost Wire.
We would like to mention that some polys have a low stiffness rating and some polys offer high tension stability. What makes Ghost Wire (and also Black Knight for that matter) so special is that they perform exceptionally well in both of those categories.
@TierOneSportsOfficial do you have the stiffness numbers for the different gauges of GW. I an very interested in the difference between 1.17 and 1.10
I am really enjoying GW 1.10 in a 95 18x20 racquet.
thanks, H
GW 1.17: 167
GW 1.10: 146

Definitely my next order. We are honored how many people enjoy playing with Ghost Wire.

We found one of the best control oriented but soft setups, in particular for players with high rackets speeds is BK/GW. This is our favorite setup in the Tier One officeDefinitely my next order.
A lot of players (like me) in their mid 40’s, are looking for a poly really soft, arm friendly, but with all the advantages of a poly ( principally spin and control), and Ghost Wire is definitely one if them!

Thank you. Do you also have the tension maintenance data for all 4 gauges?
I tried the GW 1.17. I have a set of 1.22 to try. Do the numbers you posted mean that 1.22 is stiffer with less tension loss in comparison to the 1.17?In my notes, I have:
GW 1.17 167, 18.69%
GW 1.22 181, 14.77%
@TierOneSportsOfficial please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thank you. Now I know that I can play with the Pacific Powercraft if I want the most arm friendly string, with stiffness of 435 !I’ll post this again.
135 you mean...Thank you. Now I know that I can play with the Pacific Powercraft if I want the most arm friendly string, with stiffness of 435 !
- Incredible number btw -
Pacific Powercraft 1.30 : stiffness lbs : 435135 you mean...
Anyone remember what tension they use for these numbers? Isn’t it like 61lbs or something?GW 1.10 is 146, 23.77% according to: http://www.tennisindustrymag.com/issues/202003/string-selector.pdf
Thicker gauges usually have less tension loss because they are stiffer.
Really interested to try Triax on main and GW crosses.Played a match with Cream in the mains / Velocity in the crosses
Compared to a full bed of Velocity, I felt the spin was almost the same tbh, but it wasn't as comfortable (though still comfortable enough for my recovering elbow)
If I'm gonna use a soft poly, I want it to act like a poly, otherwise I'd rather just use Velocity
I thought control was pretty good though
Previously I played with NXT in the mains / Ghostwire in the crosses
That was too powerful for me, but had a significant increase in spin from full bed multi
Here's a ranking of my fave setups since coming back from a 7 month break due to elbow problems + lockdown:
1. NXT in the mains / Hawk in the crosses ~ played really well, but not sure if it was helping my elbow (my elbow has actually been feeling better since moving away from this setup)
2. FB Velocity ~ this string is hyped up a lot here, and for good reason, it is my fave multi (I flirted with NXT, but I'm not going back to her, Velocity is the real deal)
3. NXT in the mains / Ghostwire in the crosses ~ a bit too lively / powerful, and I'm not sure if the string job was done bad or something, but I noticed quite a dip in playability and control after 5-6 hours with the string, apparently Ghostwire has great tension maintenance, I just didn't find that from my experience
3. Cream in the mains / Velocity in the crosses ~ good control, but lacking spin (tied with NXT and Ghostwire as I haven't hit with it enough)
I wish I wasn't so picky ~ maybe I should get another racquet to make this string quest faster lol
Future experiments I'm considering:
- FB Triax
- Velocity in the mains / Ghostwire in the crosses (Velocity has better control than NXT, and I might string things higher to get back some more of the control I felt I was missing earlier)
- Triax in the mains / Ghostwire in the crosses (I presume more control than Velocity)
- FB Ghostwire at maybe 44lbs (might be interesting, but might also get me into DANGER territory for my elbow)
- Ghostwire in the mains / Velocity in the crosses (tbh, I don't know that much about strings other than the thing in the mains is more influential, and you gotta be careful with shaped polys in hybrids which ghostwire is not, let me know if this is a bad idea)
- Velocity in the mains / Poly Tour Pro in the crosses (just have a set of PTP at home, and hear it's softer than Hawk so might try it out)
- YPTA hybrid ~ though I've been shy to try that out because of its blue colour #AestheticsMatter
Let me know if you have any thoughts / ideas
Dang it I'm becoming a stringnerd![]()
