Awesome stuff. I'm on my third set now, can't seem to break or even deeply notch this monster in my 95 18x20 (probably why). Becomes pretty uncomfortable and needs replacement around the 22 hour mark for me.

That is music to my ears or monitor, or keyboard. Anyway, going to try a reel of 1.25 when I can find it. It’s like trying to find a pretty girl at a lawnmower race.

I think J0lly sent me the 1.30, because it's definitely a thicc boi. And when I say pretty uncomfortable and needs replacement, it NEEDS to be cut out and restrung. I'm trying it in a Prostaff now so I'll report back.

This string is money. Jolly said it best saying It’s like Alu and Adrenaline had a prodigious baby.

Unfortunately haven’t been able to hit as much recently as I’d like, but it’s not one of those “if it sits it dies“ type of strings so it still keeps its magic overtime. At least for the 10 hours I’ve hit with it.

Not sure if people want full reviews like TW-format, but if y’all are interested just let me know.

Definitely plan on buying a reel soon but down payment on a house has me hurting at the moment. (Sorry J)

Finally got to play with the grey fire today on my Pure Strike 100, this definitely plays like a lower powered, control oriented string that does not sacrifice feel. The 16 gauge hits like a 17 gauge due to how crisp and relatively soft feeling it is. Soft is probably not the best way to describe it because it's very crisp, but it's not harsh/stiff feeling at all. It's a pretty unique string that feels really sweet (not alu power sweet but still good) and yet the control is as good as a dead poly. I also think this will be great as a cross for hybrids.

Got some from the Jman and ill string it up soon. I am currently using Silver 7 Tour and Tour sniper. Would be awesome if it can hang with them.

This has been out for a year or so right? I feel like I read a review where it was described as a cross. Im more of a full bed guy so thats how ill string mine.

I expect it to be better than Tourna Silver 7 Tour! Wanted to order a set, saw Jollys review, ordered a reel.

Can also confirm, I'm 8 hours in with this string and it has almost no notching on the mains. I might not hit the ball as hard as some players on this forum but I'd say I could hit a pretty decently paced topspin shot consistently and I play with a very spin and pop friendly tweener racquet, and with most other strings (like RPM blast) I'd have a pretty good amount of notching by now and I'd either cut them out or break them by the 10-12 hour mark. Still plays very well, and if this string ever goes mainstream I think at least on paper it will appeal to a pretty wide range of players.

Seems like a trend now. Almost every grey string (excluding ALU Power) seems to last long in playability duration. Grapplesnake Tour Sniper, S7T, Grey Fire and others.
They might be using same additives but that is just a guess.

Kind of like how blue strings are always softer than the regular ones?

This has a touch of tan in it, almost like Lynx tour, I will put them next to each other and match colors.

Grey fire, whats in a name, is not a grey string. Like Jolly said; its ‘champagne/beige’ colored. ( a la Head Lynx Tour/ Lux adrenaline)

The other strings you mentioned are grey/alu colored.

The way strings get their coloration is by various types of dyes, which more often than not weaken different types of intermolecular interactions in the string and therefore make them softer and less aligned. So actually any string with just a dye cannot have superior tension maintenance or playability duration. In other words the correlation you see between grey strings and playability duration isn't due to coloring, but rather a coincidence. The only way to improve tension maintenance during production is by use of certain processing techniques which help align the molecular chains in the polymer as well as certain additives which can help keep it aligned during play. Of course there are several other things which go into making the tennis string so you'll also have other additives and techniques in play, some of which can actually hurt the tension maintenance.

Yes, good point. On the other hand, this is not cellulose polymer, so polyester chains are not as long. In my mind you can further decrease size of poly chain by adding dye. By adding right dye you can find an "optimum" size of chains, where they stay in flexible state for a long time by decreasing stress on that particular fiber and spreading it more on other fibers as well. + you need other certain processing techniques.

Believe me if there were an optimal length every string would be designed to have it irrespective of color. It's not the length but the linearity and alignment which are responsible. The length itself is mostly responsible for properties related to elasticity (stiffness) and viscosity. And again adding dye causes disalignment so that's still not it.

I strung it at 50 and it felt a little stiff initially. Definitely do not recommend high tensions.

What racquet are you playing with? I'm using prestige fp mp 18/20, which is pretty stiff by default. Definitely don't want to string it higher than 23kg/50lbs. Actually, I'd like to go lower, hence why I asked what is the low end of "normal".

I would probably try around 20/21 kg for a high end tension for an 18/20. I go around 42/43 for stiff poly like rpm blast.

2020 prestige mid. I strung the 1.25 at 50 in my MP last year and it was great but I broke it in 45 minutes. The 1.30 lasts substantially longer.

I don't mind stiff strings, even on higher tensions, in a Blade 18/20, but in this mp, it really bothers me. Luxilon adrenaline at 23kg was fine for me and I think Jolly said that grey fire is similar string.

I ordered 1.25, but I'm not a string breaker. 18/20 saves string and I'm certainly not hitting as hard as you on average.

Finally tried this string today. Strung it at 21kg/46 lbs in a youtek prestige mp frame. Whole setup felt a bit underpowered but the precision was excellent. I could confidently take full swings and go for small targets. Definitely not a string for dinking the ball around.

Hi

Tried Grey Fire 1.30 in RF97A at 25.5kg/56lb, low power at first, slightly lacked spin, needs lots of hard hitting, really nice feel, nice pocketing but not too much, just right to swing big. Didn't notch much but wore thinner and thinner in the crosses and then got some power and pocketing, but that wasn't really a 1.30 string anymore. It lasted ~4h, which is a lot for me, but I definitely want 1.25 instead. Wonderfully balanced string, bigger hitters will definitely like. When stringing it feels like ALU or Head Hawk (also made by Isospeed), kind of soft-ish but not soft slightly malleable material, you can easily bend and kink it just with two fingers, some other poly strings are kind of stiffer under the fingers. Total recommendation.

Told you not to string it too tight.
