"It does not seem right that Wimbledon is the only tournament to have it's own seed criteria" - Rafael Nadal

If it is true that the women's seeding is done differently than the men's than that is enough to call it into question. At this point it all depends on if some of the younger players on the rise can rise to the occasion and play well enough to knock out any of the big 3 players, which is what I am hoping for (well, Djokovic and Federer!) (; I think the formula for seeding at Wimbledon is wrong when it's the only one of the Grand Slams that uses it.

He’s right though. Why should they get a pass and not respect the ATP ranking which is perfectly designed
Poppycock.

Nadal is not right at all (not even morally).

If he is arguing for some kind of "all slam" uniformity or equality then you can't have genuine equality unless grass court tournaments are at least 1/3rd of the tour and therefore one third of the points that (in theory) could be accumulated by all players

Then and ONLY then does Wimbledon has a moral obligation to follow the ranking. Otherwise they shouldn't because as of right now Wimbledon is uniquely disadvantaged by the fact that the grass season is much shorter than the rest and therefore grass court tennis is under-represented in the ATP ranking results of ALL players. This little but crucial fact seems to just fly over the heads of baldal and his ilk without ever being addressed.

Rafa really hasn't much of a case.

Roger has won more Wimbledons than any man ever, has just won a tournament on grass and has won more tour titles than Rafa this year.

Rafa knew the Wimbledon seedlings system so he should have turned up at one of the grass events and got the job done.

Simples. :)
Too much rational thought in this poast. Careful, or you might receive a warning for spreading such virtue.

If RG wanted to adopt the same formula, I would back it.
I don't think it's right or wrong, what makes it bad is that Wimbledon is the only tournament which does that, so there is no balance. Federer got a second seed because they still remember he won Wimbledon 2 years ago, that probably gave him most points. On the other hand RG gave him 3rd spot as a gift, for nothing.

Then why Fed and Djo fans go crazy every year about Nadal’s draw at the French if he’s going to win it anyway?
Did you see? On Eurosport there were comments that Federer was going to destroy Nadal in RG semifinal if the weather that day was better. :-D:-D:-D:-D

Do you three grass not being allowed not even a single masters is a fair balance also? The season is so small, that players cannot build up adequate points to justify their seeding as they can on clay and hard, all have multiple masters leading into them.

The only way it can be resolved is by extending the season, so points can be won. Imagine Kuerten and Muster being the top seeded players heading into Wimbledon...

Wimbledon should know by now that their use of the formula is out of date but they will do whatever they can to give Fedr his zimmer frame to help him by putting Rafa and Djoker in the same half of the draw.

I'm not against having a few masters on grass. But of course not right after RG, at least a few weeks after it.

Federer and Djokovic drawn in the same half of Wimbledon.

2008, 2009 2010, 2011, 2012, 2016, 2017..

So yeah sure, they help Fed out by giving Djokovic to Nadal...

Wtf is meaningless exho event..not even best of 5 sets...and every player considers Olympic Gold far more prestigious than WTF and Masters 1000s.

Nadal has won AO and W beating Federer at both at his prime. When has Federer beat Nadal at FO and USO...u walked into that one lol

Do Fed's YEC's that had 5-set finals count?

Proves my point. Up to 2011, Djokovic was no threat to Fedr at Wimbledon. In 2009 & 2016, Rafa was absent from Wimbledon. We shall see what happens this year.

It's pointless to argue with VB after a while.

There's no common sense in use at all.

This thread in and of itself was not born of common sense. Rafa's comments could not be more benign, but ever since a certain semi-final a few weeks ago and the closing of a certain gap, Rafa can do no right in the eyes of certain people.

It is, as they say, what it is 8-B

I can already see the ultimate RG excuse for the next year. Federer/Djokovic/Thiem lost to Nadal because the roof was closed and the conditions became too humid. :sneaky:

lol, and of course this year we kept hearing about Chatrier being different and losing its Rafa-friendliness. Guess not 8-B:giggle:
