Ash is falling from the sky here in Guatemala, starting about an hour ago!!! All this from volcanic activity from the Pacaya volcano, which is about 30 miles south of the City. I was at home giving math lessons to a neighbor kid when suddenly the light rain was making this different, weird sound. I go out andin fact, IT IS ASH!

Its very weird, and somewhat eerie, but I find it absolutely fascinating, its the 2nd time in my life Ive experienced this, the last was about 12 years ago, but that time it was without rain, so the sound the ash made falling down was waaaaay creepier, cause it wasnt hidden by the falling rain. Ill take pictures tomorrow of all the situation and how it all looks, its so weird!

Another major airport shutdown, this time in America??????????

Huge volcano eruption

I was just watching the news, to see what was going on. Apparently, at about 3pm local time, the Pacaya Volcano began to erupt, in a "mildly" manner. This is a volcano which has been active forever, since 2006 only lava flows were taking place, and some mild eruptions. At about 6pm local, while news reporters were filming the activity a huge blast was heard and witnesses say they found themselves covered in lava that was falling from the sky. Some reporters got inside a radio transmission cabin. One is expressing that a huge glowing rock fell inside the cabin, destroying equipment and that the cabin caught fire. This person, a cameraman, along another news reporter was missing. He has just appeared, he says he doesnt know how hes alive and that he didnt see his colleage again.

Its a horrible thing that is happening over there, they say about 600 families have been evacuated and that there are many missing.

Today was a horrible day, it has been raining all day long and Im sure thats gonna make things very difficult for rescuers and evacuation procedures.

sorry for the prev, I've re-sized the rest

This is the driveway from my house:

This is the outside of my house, the whole street is covered in black sand, check out the sidewalk!

This is the entrance to the condominium where my parents live

Yeah, what has hit the city is really just the ash/sand that is causing some trouble. Yesterday it was practically impossible to circulate, cause besides the falling ash, it was raining, so having wipers on just made a mess.
Today, everything was covered in sand, a layer of about 0.5 cm (1/4in), and the authorities closed schools as a precaution and asked everyone to help clean up, gathering the sand and putting it in plastic bags so the municipality would pick it up. This cause, if it was washed away by rain it would ultimately clog the sewers.

The radius of really damaged people because of the volcanic eruption itself was about 1.5 kilometers, and the volcano is about 40 kilometers south of the city.
There are villages inside that 1.5km radius, which had to be evacuated, and some people, not a whole lot, are missing, but still, one is too much.

What the !!!? That is one helluva picture.

It is! but now I have my doubts if it is the Pacaya volcano or not..., I've reasons to believe its not, tryin to find the source from the friend who sent it to me..., I have a couple of vids of my clubs tennis courts after the ash fall, I'll upload em later!
