It will take a long time to adjust to a post Federer era

For a very long time I have yearned for the day when the next generation would climb up the ladder and the big 3 fade, but I guess I didn't realize until now I still wanted them around, even if just phantoms losing in 4th round, ranked 20, 21, 22 in the world.

Whatever I thought of Roger over the years, he was always, solidly, consistently there. A guy who played Rafter, Kafelnikov, Agassi and even PETE. With him gone, something significant will be missing. A strange gap, a link between the classical era of tennis and the increasingly baseline era will be gone, and we will likely never have such a player who hearkens to the old guard again. I have no doubt this gap will fill over time, and we are fortunate to have a few promising youngsters, but it still will take a lot of it. I suppose his extended leave has at least prepared us for this.

How will you feel come November when he is not at the Year end championships, and it sinks in he will not be in Australia, in France or even England again?

Anything worth having causes some pain and sadness when it is gone. I don’t understand how there are still some haters/trolls today, on this day of soon to come tennis bereavement, but focusing on the bright side the vast majority on this board are responding with respect and admiration as it is most surely due.

I'm basically outta here as far as the ATP is concerned.
I've stated this many times here already.
That when Fed retires, I'll stop watching ATP matches for the most part.
Might tune into a semi or final occasionally, but that's it.

The game will never be the same without him but his influence is felt throughout the ranks of the tour.

I think the shock will be bigger when Nadal or Novak retire because Fee hasn’t really been playing for a long time now. Already tennis has moved on from the Big 3 heyday and I have to say I miss it. Not sure Alcaraz-Sinner will be enough of a replacement

Is it fair to say the Big 3 era was from Indian Wells 2007-Australian Open 2020?

Have watched the sport for a very long time but have to say this is nothing like before and leaves dumb and lost . It is going to get worse when Nadal and Djoker leave. What a void it is..

Glad Alcaraz is No 1. He seems someone fit to take over the mantle for the long term. Hopefully Tsitsipas also gets back on track. These two with Sinner can take the sport forward hopefully.

It is not always about winning. He created enough magic that there were enough number of his fans would take his mere presence on the court , even if it means a loss.

Well in this country, we don't like seeing our stars fade away & underachieve! We love for them to go out on top like Martina Navr. @ almost 50 winning her last major!

I didn't watch the Sincaraz match live but saw it on extended highlights. I could see it was amazing but it also felt like I was getting a little big of a headache from it somehow.

Compared to something like Novak and Stan in AO 2013 it didn't seem beautiful.

I on the contrary do not enjoy great multi-slam tennis players becoming punching bags for the rest of the field! It's ruins their stats and ultimately the legacy, the longer they stay and keep losing! Federer's case is slightly different in a sense, that even with Djokovic and Nadal recently having upper hand in their trivalry for the last 10 years at least he was in majority of cases capable of beating everybody else even not on the best of his days! But i still insist he should have retired right after that 2019 Wimbledon final (well maybe not after, maybe play Laver Cup or Basel as a final farewell, but you get the point...)
...I'm a big proponent of how Sampras finished his career! That is how great tennis player should retire!

I've already adjusted and am ready for the Carlos Alcaraz era. The big 3 era has needed to end. 2 of them will continue on, yes, but it will be different. Roger Federer had a LONG career in tennis and a very successful one. It is not the end of the world that he has retired.
