ITA Indoors

Daniel Cukierman has wheels like The Demon. The dude slides like it's red clay. I was also amazed how he could absorb pace and out-hit from deep in the court today.

I was shocked that the ITA did not charge anything for entry today. Amazingly high quality tennis. Probably the best we have had in Wisconsin in forty years. Why is this "free" to the public, Oracle and Larry?

it's still just college tennis with lots of mediocre players with exceptions at very top singles spots. this isn't ATP tour. I go to them sometimes but I am looking at the hot college girls more than then tennis sometimes.

Yeah I think they need to stop with the 24 year old freshman thing (talking about Wake).

But look you can’t be upset at good recruiting, it is what it is when you recruit internationally in the 21st century.

I’m not sure what support wake gives to them, but I know that the 250 atp tournament they host the players get 2 wildcards so that’s a huge recruiting advantage. But recently I think most p5 programs have a wildcard into pro tournaments they can offer the recruits

Of course you do. You know nothing about tennis, so it makes sense.

Well, wins against top 5-10 opponents are better than losses against top 5-10 opponents, especially when you’re 0-2 in that category on the season

Not claiming UF is taking home a title, of course, but a big win to finish this weekend would help their confidence

so Eduardo plays dropshot at 4:5 and 30:30?? And he makes it! That takes some courage.
Then James three monster serves to get out of 0:30 hole at 5:5, and he holds. That is entertainment!

That’s just happened - ball bounced back over the net at 6-5 in the 3rd

that was crazy! James did not realize the backspin on that framed shot, and he got late to the net, and the ball was already back on Eduardo's court. I think he reached it but touched the net.
The last point - crazy. Just both guys with arms frozen with tightness...

One hell of a match - proud of my boys for battling OSU to the brink. Like our chances vs them outdoors (as most of the top 10 probably do). Will be interesting to see how much they have left in the tank for UNC tomorrow.

It makes perfect sense that the host school gets to participate - especially when the tournament is held on campus (as opposed to Illinois women hosting in Chicago, for example), but, ooof, the Badger men really aren't up to the task of competing with these other teams. Then again, there's been years when a team qualified, was ranked in the Top 16, and got beat badly in all their matches.
ehh, I don't mind. You think of it as a 15 team tournament + whoever. At least there are some fans of the host team coming so that helps.

(and it's not that I like it because it makes either men or women tournament being played in Chicago so I can watch in person,... :) )

ok, hold your horses. There's maybe 100 people total watching, and that is being generous. There's not a single sign anywhere in the entire city that you have a major college tournament going with top teams in the country. No one is going to pay a cent to attend.
It was the same last week in Chicago for the girls indoor championship. No casual sport fan attends those. You have families that come to see their kids because the location may be closer to home than the college city where the kids are. (And very, very few tennis crazy people...)

They need to take ITA indoor events back to actual clubs across the country like they have in the past. Not sure I would even consider Midtown a tennis club anymore its ridiculous.

When they had the individual ITAs at a club here in Columbus for a few years (back when Isner was playing in it) there were way more than 100 people there.

perhaps. Fully agree that Midtown is no longer really a tennis club. And courts layout is really bad for college-type match since you can't even watch entire team play from one place. But it is convenient location wise. It was actually pretty well attended last year.
This year girls tournament was in a completely different location, on the South Side at XS tennis village. It is hard to draw people there. in 2018 they had men+women challenger level tournament - you had like 5 people watching Bouchard play. It was depressing.

Oh my

Just looked it up

Who wants to go there? Two blocks to the west and you are in the part of Chicago that makes the news

So the rumor is that Brandon may be able to play tomorrow for USC, they should get past that surprising Michigan team. I'm now thinking that UNC will beat Ohio. Since I'm emotionally attached to USC too I'm not that bummed about them beating Stanford. I'll just wear different cap tomorrow :).....

I would argue if I could...... It is a very nice facility, but as they say in real estate business: location, location, location.......

Where would your propose?

I meant location in the sense where to host college indoor championship. If the goal is to draw more people Midtown is a better option, I think,
As far as XS Tennis Village itself, with its goals, it is as good location as one can possibly dream. And city benefits too since the land does not stay vacant.

Looking forward to 1) UF bouncing back today and hopefully beating Bresky/WF two years in a row and 2) Ito vs Geller :)
