Interesting to see how freshmen have contributed to wins this weekend from Kingsley and Styler high in the lineup to Ryder Jackson and Dostanic saving USC's chances at the bottom. It is ridiculous that UNC is so talented that Rinky H with an ATP ranking of 643 plays 3. Would you say that 17-2 Kingsley is top fresh (until Brooksby can play) with dominant win vs #1 Cukierman, and Styler (17-8 overall, 8-3 spring) is the 2nd best with wins vs #12 and #34 in country and 3 set TB loss vs #1 Cukierman? Cukierman may have the best record in ITA 24-2 with only the straight set loss vs Kingsley and a 3rd set loss vs #3 Vacherot of A&M in fall. Really amazing for freshmen to do so well vs the 24yo. Styler is the only one to take him to a 3rd set TB before losing. (In comparison, #2 Ito is 23-3 with losses vs Fenty of Mich and Bryde of UGA this spring). I looked at the list of top freshmen/newcomers from fall. Those 2 with Rinky are the standouts to me.
I also think it is interesting to note how some players who didnt even play in past years have made a big impact this dual season. For example on the MIchigan team, Nick Beaty, just a 4 star player as a junior, only played vs Nebraska and Purdue as a soph last year. Now as a junior he is 9-2 in dual matches including win vs Texas, Texas A&M, TCU, and NC State mostly at 5. Quite an effort from a guy who didnt play much in past years even tho he lost in 3 vs ranked USC freshman and former blue chip Dostanic. Similarly Connor Johnston who was mainly known from dubs and was maybe 40% winning at 4 last year vs probably an easier slate is 6-4 this spring with big wins vs ranked players from USC and Texas. Not sure how those guys will do when teams move out doors, but it is always great to see patient hardworking kids in the lower end of the lineup/bench earn some big wins and help their teams earn upsets.
