Biggest jump Virginia from 41 at end of 17/18 to #17 Makes sense with the addition of Nakishima and other freshmen, return of Wiersholm, and year of experience now for Gianni Ross and other returning sophs
Arizona State moved from 38 to 24.
Alabama moved from 34 to 22. It has seemed for years the AL coach has been on the hot seat list. Now his team is preseason top 25. Has he turned things around? Used to be all his good players transferred-has he found a way to keep them?
At the top, Florida has moved from 10 at the end of last year to #4 and USC from #11 to 5 with UCLA dropping a few spots due to graduated players and the early departure of Evan Zhu (casualty of Transition tour? would he have gone pro early if changes had not been made?)
Of course Wake and OSU are 1 and 2; both teams have guys winning Challenger matches and ranked in ATP top 400; Wake has 2 in top 400. Baylor #11 has Roy Smith in top 400, and NC State which isnt ranked but got votes has Galarneau in top 400. 5 current collegians in ATP 400. UNC #6 has Blumberg (438). Cornell with votes but not top 25 yet has Ayeni (459) and TCU #14 has Rybakov (490). Lots of players on these top teams ranked ATP 500- 550: UVA freshman Nakishima, FL freshman Riffice, OSU soph McNally, and USC Brandon Holt. Overall 12 guys in top 550 and that does not include Cressy who is 590ish.
Top 25 list overall makes sense with some team +/- 7 or 8 spots based on new recruits and recent grads. Alabama was the big surprise to me. I still think SEC is a 3 way race between FL, GA, and Miss State with Tenn maybe having a play. Cant wait to watch Gators take on the Bulldogs in Athens in March. Not picking sides just looking for a great match.
