ITA Results

#1
Does anyone understand the new ITA results system? I download the R2 Sports app, but I am having some major difficulty figuring this thing out. I don't want to have to look at a particular tournament or a player. I just want to see all the latest completed matches like they used to have. I know the old system wasn't perfect, but it was a lot better than what they are using now (at least from a fan's perspective).

What are other people out there using to look at college tennis scores?

I agree the new system is hard to use. If you want to see how players from a particular team are doing, the best way may be just to follow their twitter. If you are trying to follow the ITA in Tulsa, here is the link to the 12 courts with live scores and streaming: http://streamingtennis.com/tulsa/ or you can check this page for latest completed results from Case Tennis center but it does not include results from Union High courts http://www.r2sports.com/website/event-website.asp?TID=29454
I think some big tournaments are being missed. I did not see the Battle of the Bay tourney on the R2 Sports event site, and results were missing from some of the tourneys finished 3 weeks ago. I knew some players who played Southeast intercollegiate in Athens. I looked up a particular school results for that event in the R2 site and it only listed 5 of the 10 players who had competed for that college.

The old results look up was much easier for viewers. ITA probably switched to this system as before results had to be manually entered into ITA. This new system probably saves sports info directors a lot of time, but results may still be missing if the host site is not updating results on R2 sports. There was probably a learning curve on early tournaments. I guess it will save time if TD have a laptop up and enter results as soon as matches finish. However that was obviously not done for all the early Sept tourneys.

The old site was so user-friendly-look up a school, look up a player, and then you could see all their results. Supposedly on the R2 sports app, you can search for a participant, but I could not find players whose results were entered for events on R2 events page. Now in a couple weeks once this data drops into uTR, you can see a players results there or within a week check the stats page on the university's website.

Agree. I liked the Latest Results link where you could see all the results in date order.

Is UTR even pulling data from R2 Sports? I haven't found a match from this season for a college player on UTR's site yet.

I dont know. Hopefully ITA told UTR they would need to pull from a different database this fall! Usually there is a lag time for results to show up in UTR after they are entered into the original database. Although the first tournaments were 3 weeks ago, the results may not have been entered until a week ago. One of the factors in placing players in different flights in the fall or in qualifier vs MD for fall regionals is UTR. UTR and iTA are partners but what that means, I dont know. I know UTR was used for regionals at least for freshmen the past 2 years as of course they had no ITA rating. As of a few days ago, UTR still had some 17/18 srs on college rosters and missing freshmen.

The old ITA site was so easy to use. I could quickly check results of different matches without going to each college’s web site. But the new site is impossible to use. Every time I click on one of the tournaments, it says the link is not valid. What’s the deal? Yet the college web site will have a link to R2sports that works.

Also, it is hard to search for the tournaments. I preferred clicking on ita regional and the draw next to the event.

I haven’t seen any college matches posted to utr this fall.

Please bring back the old site!

@Tennis Sam @BusyMom I sent an Email to UTR asking when fall college scores would show up in UTR. UTR responded quickly:
"We currently do not have a way of importing college results into our system. We used to import all of our college scores from the ITA website every week ..... But now the ITA is in the process of implementing a new site...
We are currently working with ITA to try to figure how to import the results from them with their new system. Please be patient with us while we try to figure this out." Cant blame UTR for not being able to add results when ITA changed system.

The ITA does not have all Sept results in R2sports yet either so hopefully by the time UTR/ITA figure out a new link between their systems, all early fall tournament results will be in R2Sports. In past years, i had noticed missing results from some of the large fall invitationals-maybe 5-10%. However, with fall results not in UTR, it may be difficult for ITA to seed/select regionals in mid Oct for players without regional or national ITA ranking. They may just use existing UTR; if a player played well in early fall, he/she will be underrated. There was one Brazilian freshman, currently just UTR 13.0, who beat 6 players at AA PreQ/Q draws (5 in straight sets) before losing in final Q rd today. Considering he beat higher ranked players, i am sure his utR will jump once UTR can pull in results.

Great info. Thanks for posting this.

It'll be nice to have stuff on UTR, but I do like having a central place to go to for all the college matches broken down by gender/division. Whatever the end result is, I hope that ITA brings this feature back. This was the closest thing to an ESPN app for college tennis that existed, and now it's gone.

@jcgatennismom I definitely realize it is not UTR's fault that the college matches aren't there. As far as the ITA regional seeds, for some of the D3 regions, they were incomprehensible anyway. No one seemed to know how they were selected. It was neither by last year's ranking nor UTR.

Has anyone figured out why all the links are broken on the ITA site? If you search on tournaments, you do get a list of last weekend's events. But if you click on the link to see the draw, you get an error. But if you go to the host college's web site, they have a link to the R2 draw that works. I don't get it.

Sounds like a side effect of a web site in transition.

Anyone following the women's draw? Maria Mateas, Duke freshman, is absolutely ripping it up. Into the finals tomorrow against Whittle from Gonzaga. Really looking forward to watching her play in person, my guess is she'll be ranked in the top 3 in the country the minute they open the rankings up to freshmen.

@Tennis Sam @BusyMom First college results are trickling into UTR-saw results from Oracle Masters and Milwaukee Tennis Classic show up today. Checked to see if some results from Battle of the Bay were in, but didnt see any for the players I checked. Coaches or UTR need to still clean up some rosters; Nathan Ponwith is still listed on UGA's UTR roster. Even for results starting to come in for uTR, some are missing for freshmen; guess players have to be added to roster first!

Laurens Verboven won the Oracle Masters Men's Singles, and the results aren't on his UTR profile yet. The Milwaukee Tennis Classic appears to be there. The profiles on UTR's site are beautiful, but the main problem with using UTR's site is you have to know what you're looking for. I just want a feed of college tennis results the way it used to be shown on the ITA's site.
