in Turkey. anybody here planning to attend?
Whats the rule? Is it the year u turn 35 or do you have to be already 35 to participate?
I turn 35 in October next year and it would be very nice to play the WC!
You can play 35s next year Hankenstein.... I qualify in the 40s age group this year (not playing though) and am 39.
Apparently the club there has about 70 red clay courts, you should feel at home.
the year counts, 1978 or older for 35+
would be nice to see you there
64 red clay courts and building more. and well-maintained ones i might add.
Sounds great! See you in Turkey!
An BTW; Moz,, time to string the yellow Fischers again and start hitting
I am playing again, but this winter is going to be spent changing my serve. Next year I might get a bit more active!
Great to hear you are out on the court again old man! Is it Murray who inspired you go out running on the baseline again?
It's probably my return that inspired him in New York.
March 24-31 for the individual event. Its going to be played at Club Ali Bey in Manavgat. For those of you who are not familiar with this place, here you go. CLAY COURT HEAVEN!
edit: Also found this video of the place
the clay courts are very well maintained and the club is fantastic too.
i always come back with a few extra pounds after a week in manavgat with all inclusive
btw, just played the ITF Grade1 tournament in Mallorca. more than 700 participants and the level of play rises every year
Sounds very VERY nice! I am all set. I dont think i will get to play the Team-event so I will be there for the individual event starting March 24. Will play both singles and doubles.
What age-category do you play in?
45+ , playing singles and mixed. no team event for me either. i´m from austria, and there are lots of better players
i´m really looking forward to it, may come a day or two early to practice on the red clay, since there is no playing outside at that part of the year at home
Ah! Mixed! There is mixed as well? How does it work with mixed? Sign in at the event or in advance like singles with ipin?
We start to play on clay in Sweden mid april at earliest, so i have to find a club with Teppich-Granulat to get atleast some clayslide-feel.
well, you can sign in advance if you have a partner.
if you don´t, at ´normal´itf tournies you can sign in at the event as well.
there are usually always some who look for partners. that goes for all doubles events.
it´s my first world championship though, so rules might differ. best to wait for the factsheet to check the rules
Now everything is booked and ready and I have entered singles, doubles and mixed.
Anyone more plan to go other then me and Treblings?
maybe i should repost this thread in the former pro player forum, since there will be many former pros attending
how´s your training going,hankenstein?
Looks great - think I'll go next year. Good luck to you both.
I'm playing a small tournament in Portugal 22-24th March - the start of the comeback trail.
Treblings - I'll look into that Mallorca one this year as well, even though I'm not good on red clay.
2014 it´s in Palm Beach Gardens, Fl, as far as i know
the coba iberica in Lisbon?
Yes, that's the one. Have you played there?
no i haven´t yet. hoping you post a report here
You'll get a long report and photos if it goes well! If you don't hear from me.......
looking forward to this event.
I am going with my girlfriend. Both 50+ this year.
We will be doing Singles, dubs and mixed each.
Will get a in a few days early to do some practice, and watch some of the teams play in the week prior to the individual events.
Same as me. I´ll arrive on the 22nd and get some good clay hours at the 23d and 24th. It will be a lot of tennis and that is needed just when looking at the al inclusive buffet
and are you playing mixed with your girlfriend?
i´ll arrive on the 22nd as well. won´t be easy to get court time. have you looked at the entry list? more than 500 in singles alone
Yea! It is massive amount of players! There is a clay court club a couple of minutes to the west of Ali Bey, with 10 courts. Atleast it looks like it when looking at google-maps. Next to a soccer-field. Maybe it will be possible to practice there?
worth checking out, thanks. let´s hope not everybody googled it
two years ago, there were over 600 competitors and the place was full.
we managed to get half hours of practice once or twice, that was all
How do you book the practice courts? Is it a players desk like on the pro-tour where you book those kind of things?
I will play singles, mixed and doubles so at least i´m guaranteed to be on court 4 times (with consolidation in case of loss 1:st rd singles)
it´s hard to tell for sure, because it´s the worlds this year. but usually you can book it the same day at the pro shop. i´ll play singles, doubles and mixed as well for the same reason as you.
How's the prep going chaps?
Mine has been severely hampered by the weather! I was supposed to have a warm-up tournament this weekend, but I've had to withdraw for a coaching course.
Moz! Are you going to play the World Champs after all!? I thought you was going to skip this year!? Or is it the Team competition you are playing?
Weather in Sweden is extremely cold for the season. They even put up a Category 1 warning for heavy snowfall this 24 hour period and we expect -20 (-4 farenheit) celsius. This time last year we had +15 celsius (59 farenheit)
No, I'm playing in a small event in Portugal next week.
It's too cold to do much outside here.
Ah, on clay? Next year the world champs is in Florida in end of april. Hope to see you there
Are u still flashing those yellow, flashy Fischers?
Yes, red clay. Only been 4 and a half years since I last played on it!
Florida sounds good, but I might make you play doubles with me. I have enough time between now and then to get a serve.
Still using the Fischers, but trying some other frames at the moment.
it´s snowing here in Austria. once or twice i get to play on indoor clay.
looking forward to the sun in Turkey
moz, the last time i checked there were hardly any players in that Portugal tournament. do you expect a good field?
Treblings - I can't find evidence of anyone entered, even myself! Where are you looking?
Last year the field was small but looked like a decent standard.
Looks like we will get some sun and nice temperature in Turkey =)
log in with your ipin and you get directed to a calender of all tournaments this year. just click on your tournament and entry list for your age group.
it´s fun to go there from time to time to see who´s playing what and look for results
i´m really looking forward to it. we´ve had more snow this winter than the last years combined.
Cheers Treblings - I have been trying that, turns out it was my browser that was at fault rather than me! I can see it now, cheers.
The tournament is only over 3 days so the fewer matches the better at my age.
How's it going for you lads out there?
Here's some play from Portugal where I managed to hurt my back before any match tennis was played. The joys of getting old I suppose:
well, i´m back home in the snow after a week of sun in turkey.
i´ve played quite a number of ITF tournaments but the quality of play
was nothing compared to what i saw here in Manavgat. there were simply no
bad players around(except maybe me)
my first round opponent was from turkey and beat me easily 1-0 while i tried to get a feel for the claycourts. he was too good, having played at challenger level in the 90´s.
seriously, it took me the whole week to get used to playing outdoors on soft clay in windy conditions.
luckily my partner and i won our first round in the mixed against a russian pair before losing to two brazilians.
the whole experience was amazing and i´m looking forward to 2014 in Florida.
i´ll try and post some videos over the next few days.
check out the ITF Seniors facebook site for excellent pics.
next for me will probably be Umag, Croatia, in May.
