It's been a whole year Nadal fans!

Not gonna lie, I'm genuinely stunned by how many Nadal fans are still going on about the roof being used in last year's semifinal! I think what gets me the most though is the implication that Djokovic would never have won had the match been played in "normal" conditions. Er, have they completely forgotten what happened in the 2011 final already?

They say time heals all wounds but this clearly isn't the case where Bull fans are concerned. It's been 12 months guys.

The 2011 Wimbledon final is not an indicative of what would have happened in the 2018 SF had it been outdoor, as 2018 Nadal was playing better on grass than 2011 Nadal. The only department where 2011 Nadal was better on grass was the speed. But the aggresive shot-making, with usual net approach, drop shots and backhand winners was much improved in 2018.

The WB 2001 final was a different match with different situations than the WB 2018 SF.

Nadal defeated outdoor Djokovic in the WB 2007 SF, but that match has nothing to do with the 2018 SF, as both players are completely different from 2007.

Movement is absolutely vital on grass, the biggest edge 2018 had was mental - he was a wreck in 2011 and crumbled at the end of sets and played a terrible 2nd set.

I wasn't suggesting it should be an indicator of what would happen in future Wimbledon matches, just that it showed how Djokovic doesn't require a roof to beat Nadal on grass.

2011 was Djokovic at his physical peak, he is nowhere near that level, his tennis is arguably better now, but physically he is not as strong. In the heat Nadal will beat Djokovic on any surface now and at Wimbledon it was over 100c.

Nadal is vulnerable on grass if it is cool and damp. last year it was not cool or damp, it was blisteringly hot.

Yes, and that puzzled me as Nadal was a 3 Major holder at the time and had been in 5 consecutive Wimbledon finals (2009 he missed as injured) ,so should have been full of confidence yet it proved how Nadal's whole game is actually built confidence wise on what he does on clay. The two defeats in Rome and Madrid seemed to send him loopy.

Yes, but the mental edge is important.

In 2011 Djokvic had won 4 matches in a row against Nadal before the Wimbledon final. In the 2018 Wimbledon SF, Nadal had won the last 2 matches in a row against Djokovic and Djokovic had just lost against Checcinatos at RG.

So only because Djokovic won the 2011 Wimbledon final outdoor, it doesn't follow that he would have won the 2018 Wimbledon SF had it been outdoor. Different matches, different situations, just like the 2007 WB SF has nothing to say about the 2018 WB SF.

Nadal in 2018 played a better match, I was just pointing out that declined movement on grass is no small thing - as someone that's played on grass I've found it requires really precise footwork.

Who would have won a hypothetical outdoors contest in 2018? I don't know, don't really care either :p

I honestly believe Djokovic would've beaten Nadal last year no matter what the conditions had been - it just seemed like it was written in the stars for Wimbledon to be his comeback tournament and I really don't think the tennis gods ever intended for Nadal to win the title more than twice.
No chance. Had it been played outdoors in that heat Nadal was winning in 4 sets, Djokovic cannot play high intensity in extreme heat. He struggled in US Open last year until the rain came and cooled it down (final was indoors) and at AO, the last week-end was exceptionally cool and on Rod Laver arena the roof is always half closed anyway for some reason.

Nadal is the unbeatable on any surface in extreme heat over 5 sets. I literally cannot ever remember him losing a best of 5 set match in brutal conditions.

Nadal hasn't beat Nole outside of clay since the 2013 USO. Since that day Nole has met and beaten Nadal 9 times outside of clay, including 6 finals.

It wasn't the roof. Heck, the only reason anyone even thought Nadal had a chance was that Nole had yet to recover from his 2 year slump.

Yep, Nole's team was actually expecting the USO to be his real comeback tournament.

Rafa fans will never get over 2018 so I just ignore them.

And how about Djokovic fans still complaining about the bad weather in RG and writing Djokovic would reach the final and destroy Nadal with better conditions? How is this any better?

Last year it was the roof, this year it will probably be the draw.

Still Federer-fans are evidently the only ones making excuses... Hmm:unsure:...

In that case, why did Djokovic choose to play with the roof on, even though it was hot and sunny outside? He obviously thought he had a better chance of winning indoors against Rafa.

Anyways, I'm glad Wimbledon came to their senses and changed that stupid rule.

We don't really care. Bull would have beaten Djokovic with or without the roof.

Thinking he'd have a better chance at winning indoors isn't the same as him thinking he'd have no chance of winning without the roof.

For us Nadal fans.. It would have been easier to get over that loss had Rafa defeated Nole at AO 19.. but what we instead had to witness was well...

He doesn't but I do find it interesting that he opted to keep the roof on when they resumed their semi-final last year even though the weather was fine outside.

These guys didn't get to where they are by being all nicey nicey Mainad. This is a Wimbledon semifinal we're talking about, not an old ladies' afternoon tea party.

Wimbledon matches should ALWAYS be played outside if the weather permits. It's a silly rule that 1 player should have power of veto over that. I believe the AELTC has now rescinded that thank goodness.

I agree bro. Djokovic is a better grass player than Nadal! He’s proven it time and time again, whether it outdoors or indoors!
