It's only fitting Djoker will get the slam record at the AO

I'd wait to see how the draw pans out. If Novak has FAA in the semi-final then it's his to lose.

Nah, it’s not gonna be easy anymore. It’s actually gonna get way, way harder this time around. It was around this age where Federer lost his hold at Wimbledon to Djokovic among others. Could easily happen to Novak.

I just hope Djokovic has a career renaissance in 2023 like Federer did at his old age so he can claim at least 2-3 more slams.

Here I was thinking this thread will be about the parallels between Djokovic's status and the origins of the Australian nation. Disappointed.

Novak big big favourite for AO 22 and he is a different beast on Rod laver arena u would think he will get it done here. Sport is unpredictable that’s why it’s so good. If I’m betting I think Novak gets the record here

Seems to be a lot of Optimism around Djokovic failing.
Reality USO hasn't been great Tourney for him, 3 win.
AO is completely different.
FO without Nadal is different
WO is completely different

Note: He went into USO undercooked, got to finals. Everyone goes into AO undercooked see how it goes.

He is still favorite or near favorite at all Majors {Depending on Nadal recovery for FO}

Djokovic went into the event overcooked, and the draw saw the bird turn black. A slam is seven marathons in a row, so you can't take the long road home.

I think, on the whole, Djokovic didn't deserve to win his 21st at this USO where he struggled to put away 5 of his 7 opponents and lost to a 6th in straight sets in the final so basically, he didn't deserve to win his 21st by luck. Let's face it, some of his GS wins could have turned on a pinhead and gone the other way. He's never won a slam without losing a set, Rafa has done it 4 times and Federer has done it twice.

I was thinking the same when it became apparent there were no cracks to exploit in Med’s game, no CYGS pressure at his most successful slam, Med and Zed the hurdles to cross. Wimbledon would be the back up, Berrettini or an early rnd v Nick the main obstacles perhaps.

Who knows for sure, we'll see, because the Next Gen have fully arrived now.

It's only going to get harder.

There is a good chance it stays 20-20-20 always also.

It's not a given. Look at his path to the AO title this year. He could easily have lost early. Even Jack Draper, ranked 253, took a set off him at Wimbledon.

Nothing is a given for Djokovic or Nadal now.

It can all end 20-20-20, especially if the others now also start unleashing their full potential. If Zverev, Tsitsipas join the slam winners circle, it is time to say good bye to the big 3.

Easy, easy :) Nole is still heavy fav for AO - he needs a long, long break....Doubt he will bother with IW...

Honestly I wasn't even thinking about 21 at all today. Mostly because of what OP says, it's still going to happen either way, only question is where.

Today was all about the CYGS happening or not.
If he shows up fit and well to the AO and doesn't win, there's no sure thing of a 21st slam for Djokovic. Plenty of very good athletes are spent at 35. Nadal could clinch the record with number 21 at Roland Garros

I have never claimed anything was a given for Nadal, even with his near flawless record at RG.

Novak is the fav, but things change very quickly in tennis, we have been seeing the Next Gen knocking on the door this year and it only got louder. I know many want to downplay just how Novak won so much this year, but he was pushed at AO last year also, pushed to the brink at RG, at Wimbledon even though it may not show in the score, he was pushed hard in that Wimbledon semi, he was pushed to the edge at USO by Zverev and then Medvedev finally landed the killing blow.

The Next Gen are getting better, much better. If those floodgates open, it could all change very quickly.

Agreed I suppose and I’ve said the same before - age will catch Nole....However I didn’t feel the real Nole was beaten last night....The real Nole maybe back for Australia....He can’t go on forever....Only more slam before he turns 35.....I suppose I don’t know what I’m saying :)

And that in a nutshell is something that is the ultimate truth. Lets not forget, the guy has been on tour since 2005 and been at the top of the game since 2007.

Agreed....Same with Nadal...Surprised Nole had this year at 34...I won’t be making any bold predictions on either player - I’ve ended up wrong too many times....Would love to see Fed and Rafa at AO but don’t see it happening...

Next year Federer is going to be 41, Nadal 36 and Djokovic 35....their bodies cannot keep holding up. Yes, Djokovic looks the better of the three from a health perspective, but he, just like those two is still declining and adding more wear and tear onto his body. Mental strength can only take you so far.

Federer tried to come back after having time off, sadly it didn't work out for him, he was noticeably slower due to the knee issues and that was all it was going to take. Nadal has had a bad season, he was struggling the whole time, has been hobbling on his foot, took several weeks off to recover, plays two matches and he's done again....what is going to happen when he gets back on the clay and has to grind once more at age 36, especially with his suspect stamina?

Of course we shouldn't write them off until they hang up their rackets, and no one is questioning their will and mental desire to play and compete, but when the bodies are breaking down, there is only so much you can do, they are not getting younger. Look at the list....Federer, Nadal, Murray, Wawrinka, Del Potro....bodies breaking down faster than they are repairing, in a way it is the natural order. Novak will only hold out for so long also.

Let's face facts. The real Nole was pushed at the AO 2021 by Fritz, Tiafoe, Raonic & Zverev. Everyone assumed Djokovic was a lock for Olympic Gold and the USO 2021. He failed to win both. So don't get too carried away you might not be able to celebrate as much as you did up to now. Djokovic nearly lost to Mussetti at RG as well.

Even the players that have never been heard of now believe they've got a chance. Look at the way Rune performed against Djokovic at the USO. Even Matt Draper, a WC, took a set off him at Wimbledon. Some of the young teenage players serve bombs so it's shouldn't be taken as read that the Old Guard are always going to have the upper hand.

Emma Radnukanu has given a lot of young players men as well as women the inspiration to beat to greats.

he will be under a lot of pressure in australia.......what he got yesterday was not a defeat, it was a total beatdown which will have an effect on his mind.......he will be pushing 35 and his situation in australia will be that of a semi-old lion surrounded by four young hyenas like you see on animal planet.......can he get out of it?

When fit Rafa wins on clay easily, he doesn't need to grind. He's won RG 4 times without dropping a set.

Yeah not disagreeing with any of that…I just feel anytime Nole is beaten these days kind of comes with an asterisk considering his age…I would say the exact same for Rafa…Beating Rafa on clay these days ain’t the same as beating him 10 years ago…Same applies to Nole IMO.

itll be incredibly tough for novak to win any more majors from here. he's rapidly declined, and the nexgen have improved massively.

The decline is real guys. His advantage in five sets when the pressure is on has been brutally cut down and we saw it live yesterday.

Who are we kidding? Djoker just had a 3 slam season. You don't go from having a 3 slam season to not winning any slam at all ever again. It is not logical. With the way Nadal is having health issues now, I would be more concerned about Djoker winning a few RG titles from now on.

Medvedev today only delayed the inevitable, and I think Djokovic getting the slam record at the AO would be far more fitting than doing it at a slam where he has the worst record of the Big 3.
I don't think any of the Big Three will win another slam.
They will end with 20-20-20.
The tennis gods have made their decision and it is a good one.

It’s fate they will all end at 20-20-20. The tennis god’s decree it! :p
The chance that Djoker ends with 20 is 1%, the chance Nadal ends with 20 is 10%, and the chance Fed ends with 20 is 99%. The chance all of them end with 20 is 0.00099. A one in 1000 chance this happens.
