Its too hard to be a Roddick fan anymore

I can't handle his results in all four slams this year. The losses to unknown players and tight matches in slams are making me lose my hair. First getting pummelled by Hewitt in Australia is no good. Then losing in the French 2nd round after being up 2 sets. Then that second rd at Wimby almost losing. Can't forget about Indy, where I came for the night quarters, and semis and finals and told everyone I was going to watch Roddick. Well, he lost 5 minutes before I arrived at the courts. Now tonight is the topper. Nadal is my new favorite player. I don't care if you call me a bandwagon jumper, I will always cheer for Roddick, but he just can't be #1 to me anymore.

Well eveyone wants to be on the winning team. Safin is my favorite player because, well I just like him the most. Some days he's on some days he's way off. It's hard to stick with someone who doesn't win all the time, but then again I prefer it that way because I can't help but thinking i'd feel like a putz if anytime someone asked me who I liked the answer would be whoever was hot at the moment. It would just make me feel a bit cheesy but that is just me. Last year it was Fed Fed Fed, now it's Nadal Nadal Nadal oh well. I mean we all know that Pmac took his pic of Roddick down off his wall and hung a huge pic of his new bf Nadal so there is lots of company in the club.

I admit the losses this year have all been pretty bad, but I'm still hanging tough as a Roddick fan. I'm not saying you can't diversify your portfolio, so to speak, and add more players to be a fan of.

(Un)fortunately for me, I never give up on my favorite players, even when they're in the gutter and everyone's taking a p!ss on them. That's why I still like Andy Roddick, Marat Safin, and even Tim Henman.

All I can say after hearing about his loss, is FINALLY. Never was a Roddick fan and never will be, this first-round loss confirms it. His attitude, game and his ability to be heavily overrated just make him vulnerable to extreme disappointment. Hopefully Roddick fans learn this quickly, because unless he makes strides in changing the above, there is no hope for him.

It must be horrible to be in Roddick's shoes tonight. The press will have him for breakfast, lunch and dinner tomorrow, and maybe later too. I am not a fan of his game, but it is obvious that the guy is trying very hard to diversify his game and not really succeeding at it, and that must be disheartening for him. I hope he figures out a way to get it all together soon.

Roddick has a Top 5 serve, rest of his game has never come close to justifying his ranking ( unlike most top 5 players). This type of loss will continue to occur until he gets a more complete game, and a better idea of how to use it.

Dude, I wouldn't call being number 4 in the world overrated...*just an opinion*. Just to let you know Roddick is also not excatly my favorite player but no need to completely just flame his fans for it. And whoever made the PMac comment. That was hillarious! I was thinking the same thing after the match, I can see it now...

No one got on the Nadal bandwagon any earlier than me -- except for maybe his mother -- but I say there's plenty of room on board!

But I wouldn't give up on Andy. He's down and out right now, but it's not as if he's dropped from No. 4 to No. 50. All players have peaks and valleys, and this has not been a great year for Andy, but it could have been a lot worse. Maybe, in hindsight, this is a wake-up call Andy needs.

I don't care how good Nadal does, I'll never cheer for him. I don't like his game.

I'll still cheer for Roddick. Hopefully he'll start winning more. Same goes for Safin.

First of all, learn how to type/spell/use grammar before you criticize someone. The thing is that I have been a fan of Nadal's style of game and the way he plays since I first started to see him playing on a regular basis. I love how he never stops playing hard, beats people with consistency, placement and incredible shotmaking. Not to mention that I think he is going to be Federer's foil and is not afraid of him in the least, which I enjoy watching immensely.

I have been a fan of Roddick since he was 18, and still am. I remember staying up fairly late on a school night to watch that 5 setter against Hewitt in '01, and being so frustrated right along with him at that line call. The problem is that he has made me so frustrated with his recent play and actions that I find myself yelling at the TV more than cheering for excellent points when I'm watching him. Nadal always plays smart tennis, and then still pulls the ridiculous shots out of nowhere. So Roddick is now 1a to Nadal's #1 you could say.

It would be too easy to be a Federer fan. Federer fans have no character. It's more fun being a fan of the wishy washy players because their wins are so much more sweeter.

big serve not so big game

Andy has a big serve no doubt about that. One of the problems is that the other players are getting used to it, leaving Andy without much ammo in the gun. I'm a big R Fed fan, the man is unbelievable. The Safinator and Fernando Gonzales are also high up on my list. There is no accounting for it, you just like who you like.

Too hard being a Roddick fan? Can't handle the early-round losses?

All I can say is, try being an Enqvist fan these days...

During Wimbledon, I was worried that if he didn't make the finals, his confidence would get hit hard and he'd hit year-long slump. I guess I should've kept worrying at the US Open....

No idea if he'll hit that slump, but I think his confidence has been broken into confusion.

As a fan, I hope he keeps some form and eventually make more of the improvements he did make this year (though clearly there's room for much more improvement). The US Open was far from the first time this year that Roddick's been slumping his tie-breaks (anyone know the record this year? It can't be that good this year).

Muller played a sweet game, but prior to this year, I felt Roddick was a guy who can elevate his game enough at crucial moments (especially tiebreaks).

Anyways...

Now one has to wonder if Andy will even make it to the Master's Cup.

I'm not a Roddick fan.

I actually like to bash Roddick because he is America's tennis darling. He gets so much publicity which his game does not warrant. That guy is all show and no game. When Agassi was getting the same treatment, at least he had the game to justify it.

I'm actually starting to feel sorry for the guy now. I never thought he was that good so the results do not shock me. But it's coming to a point now that I feel sorry because the results are so lousy.

Well Roddick fans, all I can say is that be glad he did not face Federer again. He would have gotten destroyed again.

You have to feel sorry for anyone who in his career has to say this:

"I can't remember a loss after which I felt as bad as this, " said Roddick, who turned 23 on Tuesday.

"I had a great practice week. I'm in shock. I'd give anything to go back four hours.

"I've never cared as much as I care now. This year I've worked so hard and I've never felt better going into a Grand Slam tournament.

I've never been much of a Roddick fan, but he is honest guy..and very upset. Poor Andy.

Roddick the player lacks versatility and it shows in crunch situations and against players who oversome his serve.

Roddick the person is a very likeable guy.

i think roddick has to work on not jus depending on his big serve noticed he get shell shcoekd when it returns his not ready for it to return. but i woudn't give up on his so he has not performed as well he has however won i think 5 or 4 tourneys this year not such a bad year.

do u guyz think his coach has done anything to better roddick game or you think he should hav stuck with brad gilbert a lil while longer?

I'm a Safin fan..how do you think i deal with that? What has the guy done all year? Win the AO and NOTHING else. But i love the guy anway...such charisma and funny comments. A beauty to watch on the tennis court. Anyway..im a Roddick fan now too, because everyone always flames him and i just defend him.

I'll always be a Roddick fan no matter what. He was a little more fun to watch when he was younger, but I think he is starting to get back that "fire" that he had, and now he just needs the results (which are hard to come by with so much talent filling the Top 10). Lets face it, we all know Roddick's game isn't conventional and isn't going to take him as far as Federer or Safin's game can take them.

However, one "down" year isn't going to make me a Roddick hater, or even make me stop liking the guy. You have gotta respect that he is working extremely hard and trying different things to raise his game. Give it time, Roddick will get out of this slump eventually.

jeez -- with that kind of attitude, why don't you become a Fed Fan, then you will always be happy b/c all he does is just win. Don't base your favorite player just on their won/loss record.

One of my favorite players has fallen so low in the rankings, she had to play qualifying rounds to get into the main draw of the uso! unfortunately, she didn't make the main draw, losing in the 2nd or 3rd round. now that's a bummer!
