Ivan Ljubicic: "Roger was the best player on court, but he did not understand it. "

I'd say if Fed had championship points on his serve in the 5th, he had gotten over a fair chunk of his demons. Fedalovic share a very, very rarified atmosphere of athletic achievement. Fedovic would both understand just what happened in that match. Apart from FedUErr0r appearing in the tiebreaks, Fed was more in control of the match and had it won.

I'm sure they talked a lot about self doubt when solving the Nadal matchup. That obviously applies to both Nadal and Djokovic. You can see the results more clearly in the Nadal matchup because the matchup simply isn't that close, especially off clay. But the evidence is pretty clear that Fed is accepting advice and adjusting his game to beat these two opponents.

Fitness permitting, it's only a matter of time until Fed overcomes Djokovic. There might not be a string of comfortable wins like what Fed has put over Nadal off-clay because the matchup is closer and Djokovic is a better defensive player than Nadal. But I believe Fed could and should have won the WB19 final in 4, maybe even in straights if he played with the same comfort and self-belief that he now plays with against Nadal and others. Djokovic simply doesn't have the range of shots required to overcome Fed's tactics.

For me, no match will have the same emotions as the final of the Australian Open 2017 between Roger and Rafael Nadal. For me, he [Federer] is still the best player in the world. I am happy and proud that he is still the same man as before.”

Spot on , Ljube.

Every single word.
Especially those that you have not bolded - For me.
Fed is so above Ljubicic that you can't take his words in any other way than ass kissing.

Still the best player in the world? The last I checked the best player in the world who holds three slams and three masters tites on multiple surfaces is not named Federer.
Just shows you that Fred fans live in imaginary universe.

Nadal is a shadow of what he was. Fed has solved nothing. Somehow Fed has better stamina now than both Nadal and Djokovic. Pray people don't start to question it more.

People can believe what they want, but fact is Djokovic owns the lion's share of the titles on tour, and that means he is the best.

Roger at 38 has won the most matches and lost the least on tour ,8 months into this year.

Shame on the tour .

Ljube is not off base calling the maestro still the best .

Lube was brought to the Fedr's team, with one specifical purpose and that was to help Federer overcoming and solving the Novak Djokovic puzzle.

Similar mentality, close friends, trained together back in the days under the tutelage of Riccardo Piatti, the Croat seemed like the perfect man for the job really.

Lube had only one job and he failed miserably tbh. So no wonder that he is salty as the Dead sea here.

Also losing to Ivanisevic and Ancic, in a way a local derby, must be very hurtful for Lube's ego. So don't underestimate the butthurt coming from that direction also. ;)

If you truly believe that, you are in a deep state of denial :cautious:

Yes Nadalovic Fed-haters, let's talk about denial. A world where Fed never changes his tactics and matchups never turn around. Except they do, and he's done it before and he'll do it again. He did it with a situation that required significant technical work and had way more psychological baggage attached. It's only a matter of time folks until the bot comes in for the same treatment. And he'll do it nudging 40.

I must have missed the five-odd hours and five sets where Djoko had all the answers and destroyed the useless old man. Vajda's prayer mat managed to summon Federr0r in the breakers, I'll give him that.

That's a rather brash prediction. I don't see it happening but will be nice if he can do it.

How do you know Ivan has anything to do with that?
Because it's been well-documented that he and Severin Luthi were the minds behind Fed's 2017 season. Neo backhand, complete change of gameplan, etc. Fed is still using some of these tactics two years later. Sure, he's declined a bit since then, but the basic gameplan is still there and that's what's keeping him at the top.

Ljubicic should ask himself why a 20-time major champion and winner of 102 titles "didn't understand" how to convert 2 Championship Points at a tournament he'd won 8 time previously.
Because he was playing Djokovic. It was not the first time Fed had 2 Championship points against Djokovic, while serving and lost the match.

But Fed has lost, and due to lost out of two CPs, his mental cracks in future confrontations against Djoker will be even stronger than ever, at least I see it. Furthermore, No1e's performance in the 2019 W final was not great, it was one of his weaker performances that was enough to win. On the contrary, the final would probably ended up 3:1 on sets for Djoker, if Serbinator showed at least 80% of the game form from the 2015 final.

In 2010 and 2011, and neither of those MP's were at Wimbledon, and that was the salient point.

The reason Roger didn't understand it was because he understood that Djokovic was nowhere near his best for half the match.

once a bendover pigeon, always a bendover pigeon.......
i love how the people around fed need to keep reminding him of how great he is.

you is good, you is smart, you is gonna win so many points at wimbledon and still lose, roger!
no worries for ol Rogie, you are the greatest, bro! no matter how many times you choke.
The thing is, Ljubicic has a vested interest, subconscious or otherwise, in not telling his God-coachee that his problems are mental. Because if he were to ever do that, then it would mean Fedgod's era of dominance was solely due to beating up on mental-midget, physically unfit punching bags, of which is included Ljubo himself.

It's a tough square to circle for the Croat.

The fact that Federer was in the position at all was absolutely amazing which is what his detractors want everyone to forget about. That's the main goal that I detect.Try to make 38 year old Fed the exact same guy that he was 10-15 years ago.

Wrong. Far more likely to morph him into an unplayable juggernaut who would go down going for it rather than playing safe.

And it worked, amazingly. He dented his career-long closest rival 5 times in 6 showdowns. He won 3 majors. He got back to the #1 ranking.

This is all gravy and little to do with Djokovic specifically, even if the plan they came up with for the Wimbledon final almost stuck. By poor luck of the slowest conditions at Wimbledon in decades Federer lost that match.

It's amazing how people who act like they're into tennis can be so utterly clueless and devoid of perspective as you demonstrated in your post.

now they blame the slow conditions as to why federer choked.

Ivan to Roger: ROGER U DA BEST, but be wary of dem conditions out durrr Rogie, dey so slowwwwww.

Roger: OK

Ivan: FIGHTING!

Fed didn't choke the match points. Djokovic GOATed them.

Go and look at Fed's ace count across the tournament, and everyone else's too. The courts/balls were obviously slower than anytime in recent memory and the net result was to lean the advantage towards Djokovic more than ever on grass.

Tennis is, and has been a two man sport for over a decade now..Nadal and Djokovic. Federer has not been close to being the world's best since 2009. 0 YE1 since 2009 says it all. Half the Majors of Nadal and Djokovic in that time.

Sadly, Ljubicic must be living in some sort of alternate reality lol.

Ljubicic has changed nothing of note. Federer has only beaten Nadal at Majors in quick conditions, which he was able to do pre Ljubicic. On clay Federer is further away from Nadal than ever given the schooling he took this year. On hard courts Federer isn't even making it past Quarter finals at the Majors now. He is also losing to the likes of Thiem in finals on HC, Thiem is a fantastic player but im not sure Federer should be losing to him on HC.
