Goran Ivanisevic believes Novak Djokovic played "perfect" tennis and thoroughly outgunned Rafael Nadal after losing the first set of their Roland Garros semi-final clash. Speaking to Tennis Majors, Goran Ivanisevic said he was confident a repeat of last year's final would be avoided once his charge had reeled off three games in a row. The Croat even went on to claim that from the second set onwards Rafael Nadal was "powerless" in the face of the World No. 1's assault.

"What happened in the second, third and fourth set… I have never seen Rafa so powerless at Roland-Garros," he added. "I feel like Novak could have won the third set sooner, but overall, his tennis was perfect."

According to Ivanisevic, the Serb was "not ready" to face Nadal in last year's final, but turned the tables on the Spaniard this time around, handing him a "tennis lesson."

"I mean, I have a right to say what I want to say," the former Wimbledon champion said. "I had my own reasons; I am part of Novak Djokovic's team and it is normal that I believe in my player. This year, he gave a tennis lesson to Nadal. I am not gloating; simply put, last year Novak was not ready, but this year he was mentally solid and prepared for the battle."

Lot of gloating by the Novak camp it seems. Should they not wait until next year? What if Nadal comes back and beats Novak at RG?

Lol team djokovic still butthurt over RG2020. 20-19 means that match even more important at the moment.
Love it.

Here is a link to the full interview interview instead of excerpts. Goran really does like to talk doesn't he, and he is not Novak's camp. He's Djokovic's assistant coach. You have never heard Vadja brag after his victories.

If this doesn't push Nadal to whoop his a** I dunno what will. Poor move again Goran...
Also, what's with this lack of humility? Honestly talking like that is just gross in my opinion and could negatively affect Novak's already poor public image without him having done anything wrong himself
This won’t impact Nadal one way or another. It depends on Nadal himself if he can get back to his best or not. Time will tell but it will be very difficult for him now. I still think he can get 1 more french but anything more than that seems a tough ask.

Honestly, wouldn't be surprised if this happened again now:

We'll see I guess. Still, the lack of respect that goes into that kind of a comment is downright embarrasing

Really poor taste from Goran there and I’d expect better from him and to have a bit more class than that. To say he gave Nadal a tennis lesson is absurd, Nadal rightfully lost the match but fought all the way and in no way was it an easy victory. I would say it was Nadal giving the Tennis lessons in the first set to Djokovic if we are being honest and he had set point in the 3rd which could have changed everything.

I always laugh at the Djoke's reaction, and not because Nadal's actions were sportsmanlike, they were atrocious. I laugh because Djokovic is the same and even worse, but at that moment was behaving like a victim. If you are cocky and want to talk, better be prepared about the consequences. Djokovic looked like he wasn't prepared for that.

8-)

No this is great. It shows RG2020 is still an open wound. Its what i have kept saying is being proven. As things stand right now that match is pivotal for GOAT race. It is why its 20-19 Nadal not 19-20.

I think it was the right shot at the time, and I think that that shot may have helped him win the match along with the USO that year. In any case if it happens again it won't be uncalled for...

Rafa respects every opponent and gives it 100%. Leaves his blood and guts on the court.

The notion that Rafa will be extra motivated based upon what Djoker's coach says is absurd. Goran's comments were harmless in any case. It is basically what every coach says to his player behind closed doors and it is quite refreshing to hear it said openly, instead of all the usual boring politically correct bullsh!t.

Tennis could greatly use some trash talk from Alpha Males. Snowflakes need to get a grip.

The fact is the harder you hit Djokovic the stronger he comes back. He proves it time and time again.

Yeah he is. As he got his prediction wrong there. At least though he said this time Novak would prefer Rafa in semis which turned out true. I think his gloating on that prediction. 1 right and one completely wrong.
It was fact he referenceD RG2020 twice that shows team Djokovic still reeling from that defeat in the sense they know if it ends 20-19 that match is all important.

He aimed for his face. I wouldn't exactly say it was the right shot. Lol.

Ever heard of Muhammad Ali?
tennis can use a bit of trash talk .... makes it more fun and interesting instead of the fake humility and respect

I sweat these middle aged Slavic men have the media savvy for petty drama of Kris Jenner. Every time he opens his mouth it’s the perfect thing to get clicks and **** people off

Yeah I have, tennis isn't the same thing and I expect tennis players and their teams to have respect. Honestly if it was the other way around we'd never hear the end of it from Mr. Srdjan about how Nadal isn't a good man yada yada yada...
