The news surprised many, especially since there were no indications that something like that will happen, but they have been confirmed by Ivanisevic himself.

Novak Djokovic had a scheduled training at 2 pm today, which was attended by the usual members of his team, led by Marian Vajda, but also a new face, Goran Ivanisevic.

That immediately started speculation that he will join Novak's team.

As soon as they finished the training, Ivanisevic confirmed to the Serbian media that the information is correct.

"Looks like I am", he answered the question whether he is the new member of Novak Djokovic's team.

The former world number two then explained how it happened.

"A bit unexpected call, it happened few days ago, it surprised me a bit because I was just travelling to Sweden. Nole wanted me to come sooner, but I had a senior tournament in Sweden which I agreed on previously. So I finished on Saturday, and now I came to the first training and unfortunately it looks like I will be here only for the first week. I have obligations again which I am trying to postpone, but there are so many things that... However, when one Novak Djokovic calls you, then a lot of things are put aside. It means a great deal, it's a great recognition for me as a coach because he doesn't choose anyone or because he likes you, he chooses you if you can help him", spoke Ivanisevic.

He said that he is happy to receive the call from the world number one.

"I am happy they chose me, and Marian agreed with that. The first training was super, we hope this cooperation will last", added Ivanisevic.

After that, the former tennis player from Split spoke about his impressions on the first training with Novak.

"This is some kind of getting to know each other. I mean, we know each other from before, I was with him on the court plenty of times but from the other side, for the first time I am on his side. We talked a bit about my view of some things, the technique, so now we will get to know each other and sit and see what next"

He didn't want to reveal what his tennis radar revealed regarding Djokovic's game.

"We will speak about that some other time. The important thing is that Novak is good mentally and ready to defend the title. Kohlschreiber is a good opponent for the first round, you have to respect him, but Novak is in excellent state. I can see he is sort of "clean". The loss to Thiem in Paris shook him a little bit, but I think he is the first favorite, if everything is alright, I think he will defend the title", concluded Ivanisevic.

Hopefully, the new #NoleFam member will be right. :) Idemo, for the 5th time...

Interesting choice.

Hope it won't be as disastrous as the Agassi and Stepanek experiment, but still, not as good as the partnership with Becker. ;)

Djokovic will chip and charge his way to Feddy.
I have seen Djokovic chip and charge exactly twice in my life, both at IW in 2017 when he lost to some qualifier. I doubt anyone can post a clip of him chipping and charging at Wimbledon.

I know you were being facetious, but still...:)

how much is Goran charging him ? I would like to know the financial arrangement between the two first before knowing what they are going to work on

Perhaps not exactly ‘chipping and charging’, but I did notice Djoko coming to the net a lot more recently. I won’t be surprised if we’ll be seeing a bit more S&Ving from him this Wimby.

Novak knows he isn't in great form.... its unlikely that he will win Wimbledon so he intelligently got Ivanisevic to coach him to improve his serve which has been very poor.

Was just checking some numbers. So far this year Federer has the highest % of service games won at slams at 97%. Nole and Nadal are around 92%. But each has a slam and Fed doesn’t. Return seems to be key

You are right... but it's the best to ignore the troll...

Goran is a lefty, 2 inches taller, and streaky rather than consistent (although unplayable when he zoned)

I'm not sure anything about his serve game can translate directly to Djokovic, so color me intrigued - what is he going to bring to the table? (sublime racquet smashing?)

A fresh perspective.

Somebody's game doesn't define their view of the game, as their game is limited by their talents.

Sorry, what? Who is going to win W?

Um, and you know this how? Don't be silly. You know nothing. Goran could help Novak with many things. Novak is not stupid. So, Novak's serve is bad. OK, I can only laugh ....:-D:laughing::-D. There you go bud.

He lost to a qualifier in 2018
In 2017, he lost to the player who's a goat of tanking now

1st Serve numbers look really good but he got broken twice by Philip.... am convinced now after this performance that he is the favourite....

I am just glad that Novak has put on some muscle again, judging from the picture, and doesn't look like he's starving himself any more.
