Ivanisevic says Djokovic should not have been defaulted

Yes, I can see now this is your third or fourth account, otherwise an actual new user wouldn't have a clue about any of this. And you therefore must also be Beckerserve. How do you juggle so many accounts and what's the point?

But Azure, Rafa the Magnificent and MN are awesome Rafa fans! There's others too.

I deleted my other two accounts. I was FRV, then FRV2, now FRV3. I am not Beckerserve.

Shapo didn't mean to hurt the ump. 'Hard' is relative. A hard shot to the thigh is less painful than a softer shot to the groin.
Also, the arrogance of Nole, he already has 17 majors, to be upset that much after losing is weak, after you have so much. At least I can see that Shapo is frustrated, but when you win everything, it's childish to be this upset after losing.

Goran Ivanisevic is such a legend. He has never lost his way with words.

He's after Fed's record though.

Imagine if Novak was facing a line judge and hit her with a 100 mph shot like Shapovalov. I bet you'd be first to relativize it...

Hence my original post, it could have been a lot worse. He hit such a ball a few games before and if that hit someone it would have been a lot lot worse. He needed this lesson to get his anger under control.

Only other person I can think of is @Rafa.the.Magnificent, but she doesn't really debate. Maybe @Azure. I do like this @Beckerserve guy's attitude though. Even gave a like when I said the tour needs more grass.
Definitely more grass needed. Its not hard imho. 9 masters 1000 events. Have 3 on hard. 3 on clay 3 on grass. Dead simple.
Nadal and Djokovic sit atop the masters 1000 mountain while Federer has never had one on his best surface. If Halle was m1000 level then i think he would be on 35? People might say Nadal and Djokovic would have won some of his 10 halles but i doubt it as at that time of year the grass is slick and nothing like what grass is like at SW19 on finals day when there is barely any grass left.

I wouldn't mind Novak getting a warning for that but it has nothing to do with the incident he was DQ for. You're DQ for a real incident, not an imaginary one.

Every real fan of Novak will tell you that he didn't need to be booted from the slam.

Well he hit the line judge and she was in pain at least for a while. That's grounds for DQ. He got what he deserved. I find it so stupid that the first thing anyone says is that Novak didn't do it intentionally. Who the fck in the history of tennis has ever fired a ball intentionally at a line judge with intent to harm? It's never happened. So why is it the first thing that is brought up as if it's been a common occurrence in the history of tennis.

Exactly. And like in some laws, the intent doesn't matter, you are charged anyway, like going out with a minor, even if you didn't know their age, it doesn't matter, you it's still not legal, only consequenses matter.

It's a judgement call at the end of the day, Ivanisevic disagrees with it, many people here don't. What's the issue here?

All you need to know as to why this is is full of rubbish

Following that logic, 99,99% of TTW posts/threads are complete rubbish too.

Atleast Goran has enough self-awareness to recognize and admit his bias.

Based on what I have seen, he should not have been DQ even according to current rules. However, I am happy that he was DQ as he should finally understand with whom he is dealing with.

Yeah, he is dealing with a gentlemen's Sports and a Gold badge umpire with ultimate authority to enforce the rule.

The rule needs to be reviewed and makes little sense as it stands. but the rule is what it is today and Novak was careless. Now on to clay!

Do we have to? Surely it is reasonable to assume that "muh virus" lives extra long in dirt, so the whole clay season has to be cancelled & deleted

Exactly. This why a a soft medium paced ball to the throat at someone not expecting can do damage. It could have hit her in the nose and cause a non-stop nosebleed.

No reason for Novak to not tap the ball backwards on the ground first to the ballboys/girls.

I'd like to see a linesperson wear a plastic neckbrace at Novak's exhibition match.

Well, legendary players' opinions do carry more weight than—oh.

He's Djokovic's coach.

Is it really like this? What does the rule book say? If there was a possibility for Djoker not to get defaulted, then for sure he didn't deserve to be defaulted for such an unintentional mistake. A game penalty would have been fair imo.
There is (or was?) a whole post here made about it. In short, according to the rulebook there could either be a warining or a DQ, so Ivanisevic is right when saying that they had options.

On a scale from 1 to 10, 1 being zero aggression/total accident and 10 being completely anger-induced and malicious, I think it was about a 2 or 3. Unfortunately, a 2 is all you need.

This is more or less fair, but it does bring to our attention the absurdly low threshold for disqualification ... and this ought not to be the case.

The punishment must fit the crime, as even a night at the opera will inform you.

I like that. Even a night at the opera will inform you. Anyway, maybe leave it up to the abused. “Lady, would you like us to disqualify Djokovic?” “Lady, here is the replay on this I Pad. Take your time.”

Goran comes through and slays

Novak Djokovic should not have been disqualified, says Goran Ivanisevic

The former Wimbledon champion told Sport Klub: "I didn't see it, but I heard the woman below us sigh and I knew right away that was it - goodbye.

"The most tragic thing is that he wasn't angry at all when he lost that game. The only mistake is that he didn't look, that he threw the ball looking forward, not behind him.

"I'm not talking about Novak now, I am generally against disqualification. It is meaningless to me. If you come and knock the referee off the chair [then OK], but this was completely unintentional.

"The rules are as they are, either you are warned or you are disqualified, which in my opinion is stupid. I am not objective, but I don't think he should have been disqualified, he should have been given a game penalty."

Djokovic had been an overwhelming favourite to win an 18th Grand Slam title, which would have brought him within two of Roger Federer's all-time record.

He had not lost a match all season, which made the nature of his exit all the harder to take.

Ivanisevic and Djokovic headed back to the house they were renting for the tournament, and the Croatian said: "How could it be? Awful. He was by himself for a while, and then we talked.

"It is not easy for him, it was a huge shock that nobody expected. He was the favourite, he played great, and the tournament before that.

"I had all the scenarios in my head - that someone on the team might get infected (with COVID-19), so they kicked him out of the tournament, that he might get hurt and even lose. But I didn't have this, even in my wildest dreams, in my head."

Djokovic returned to Europe and turned his attention to the rescheduled clay-court season. He had his first practice in Rome on Friday ahead of next week's tournament, while the French Open begins on September 27.

Ivanisevic is not concerned about a hangover, saying: "Novak is a born winner and he will come out of this even stronger and better. If he wins Roland Garros, which I think he can, this will be forgotten as if it never happened."

Goran is lucky Novak was disqualified.

Djokovic would never live down the accusations of special treatment and favoritism after what happened to Shapo, Nalby, Henman - and even Serena essentially DQing herself twice by ridiculous outburst. Sexism would be added to the bin of injustice afforded Novak.

It would forever tarnish his already hobbled reputation.

Now he gets the discipline, the sympathy, and the comeback story.

Heck, people might even like him better cause he’s not whining about it.

Goran better leverage that and hold his peace.

Your take on this is remarkably original, and astonishingly improbable.

Coach from a defaulted player says that his player shouldn't have been defaulted.

This should have warranted the first page, next to their other big news piece, "Water is wet".
