I've never met ONE person who likes Andy Murray - and I'm from Britain!!

I'm being serious, EVERY SINGLE person who I've talked to about tennis has never had a single positive thing to say about Murray.

Responses about him range from "oh, I just turn off the TV whenever he's playing", to "I saw him live and couldn't connect with him at all - I ended up supporting his opponent", to "whining twat", to "hands down the most unpleasant person in sport".

And Britain is meant to be the place that 99% of Murray supporters live.

You guys may think that Nadal is the most hated tennis player out there - but that's only in tennis forums (if you actually ask most people, they love Nadal).

In the real world - Murray takes the title of most hated sportsman of all time with superlative ease.

So what is it about Andy Murray that makes him the most hated sportsman of all time?

Your survey of your mother, father and second cousin provides a fair and balanced sample size. This conclusively shows that Murray is the most hated sportsman ever.

You truly are both a scholar and a gentleman.

No-one in my family or extended family follows tennis. They could perhaps tell you who Federer is but have no clue who even Nadal is.

No - my anecdotal experience is based on playing in various clubs and chatting with people there.

The only 'fan' of Nadal's I've ever known is my mother. And she's no longer a fan because he has apparently turned ugly.

And one other person I guess who became a fan watching highlights and doesn't like him anymore either; after he saw him in a match and noticed his ass-picking and courtside antics.

Most people just don't care about Murray. He has a boring game and doesn't make much noise. Nadal is far more hated.

I am partly of Scottish descent and I think he is really boring to watch. Can't stand his matches, they are a snooze.

I have to agree with you on Murray's matches, there's no fun watching them and his "roarrr cat faces" make me wanna hit him in the face, but Roddick's game is as boring as Murray's

Murray has a terrible reputation in Ireland aswell. I have never met anyone who is a fan of the Muzza. People that don't follow tennis alot nearly all like nadal, fed, and a little djokovic.

Conclusion: You should go out more, and meet more people. And stupid post is stupid.

You can't disagree that if we go on the ratio of people that have heard about him vs those who hate him, Murray is the most hated sports person of all time.

There may some in other sports who are more hated in total, but that is because they are from more popular sports and more people have heard of them, and many will also be fans of them.

By that measure, he isn't even the most hated tennis player.

The All England Club must do an exemplary job of rounding up all the Murray fans in the world for his annual six Wimbledon matches, then. Either that, or British tennis crowds are really polite and don't want the guy to feel unloved.

Surely in your short stint here you have read Batz' and Mainad's positive poasts. There are Murray fans throughout the world but this has been a difficult period after hopes were inflated by his AO'12 progress.

I found that Tim Henman became a lot more popular when he retired (among the people I know anyway). Some people can't appreciate a good thing when they have it I suppose.

I do sympathise though. We watch tennis all year round so we know how good Murray can be and how often he wins, whereas most people might only watch the later stages of Wimbledon and therefore will only see him lose. It kind of warps your perspective a little bit.

i miss o'l brave tim

Because Murray doesn't have a popular personality or rather any significant personality. So it's tough for him to be popular in UK sans Scotland

i like andy murray a lot. i think he has one of the best backhands. and maybe the 2nd best backhand slice in the top 4 (fed has the best slice).

Pretty sure most of the people on Henman Hill don't know jack about tennis and are there to have a nice picnic at a unique location.

This must explain why companies shun him and he has no endorsements worth millions of pounds. Oh wait....

Great another Murray hatin thread.

I live in Scotland for 27 years since I was 7. Over in the UK there is a strange thing where people like to knock people who are successful and Murray is no different. I see a lot of similarities with Andy and Hewitt (minus the GS wins) where their fiery characters can rub people up the wrong way.

Murray and Federer both possess the most variety and tennis is a better game with these guys around.

Sure maybe it's better to conform and have a nice personality so fans can 'connect' but it ain't a popularity contest in professional sports.

I would've thought that nalbandian is the most hated right now in England

Errr, no - we're all hooligans - haven't you seen British footie fans, and didn't you see the standing ovation Nalbandian got when he made his speech?

We appreciate violence, Nalbandian only enhanced his popularity with his 'shinanigans'

By British, the guy means England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
England is part of Britain.
When referring to all British fans being hooligans, you are generalising not just England but also Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Yeah, English are the worst, but all Brits are hooligans

Then you REALLY, and I mean REALLY need to get out more! Come and talk to me or to Batz or to Fedex and you'll find a refreshingly different, more just and much more positive view of Britain's ONLY current tennis player worth talking about!

So what is it about Andy Murray that makes him the most hated sportsman of all time?

Nothing at all because he isn't. End of discussion.

It's his baby tantrums on court. Most normal people are put off by that kind of behaviour.

It's like watching a man with a badly behaved 5 year old's brain, playing tennis. It's off putting for most people.

Johnny Mac was at least funny.

Yeah, English are the worst, but all Brits are hooligans

Ah, so THAT's where Murray's been going wrong? He's just not hooligan enough! Maybe he should kick a few more hoardings and damage a few more shins. Now 'Gentleman Tim' Henman used to do that all the time. That's why he was so popular with the Wimby crowd!

Problem solved!

Yeah, English are the worst, but all Brits are hooligans

England is a big place. I've met a lot of the nicest people in England who are absolutely ashamed of the hooligan image and element in England and I've also met some of the worst.

I disagree slightly: I think henman was very popular but could frustrate with some of his results. Or we just expected too much.

Re Murray. I'm English. I dont hate Murray. But then neither do I root for him, as I just can't warm to him. I also know few people who like him, but hate would be rather strong. I'm not convinced that people engage with Murray that
much to detest him to that degree- altho reading previous posts it seems some think him a deity and others practically Satan! :)

That forlorn phrase 'Come on Tim!' has long since passed into the English language I think. :)

I've never come across anyone on here who thinks he is a deity but there are plenty on here who seem to see him as a sort of Satan. I feel sure many of them are disgruntled England football fans who never quite got the jokey exchange that once passed between Henman and Murray about the relative chances of the England and Scotland football teams at the last World Cup. Henman made fun of Scotland's chances so Murray then made a dig at England. All in good fun and anyone in Britain with an ounce of sense well understands the long-standing football rivalry between English and Scottish football supporters. But you never hear reports of any Scottish tennis fans posting hate threads about Henman!!

Visions of "A Clockwork Orange" now dance through my head! Headed out now for a spot of ultraviolence amongst assorted visiting Brit tourists here in Orlando. Will send them your regards.

Strange that all the haters are weekend 3.5 / 4.0 level hackers. Are they just bitter than they don't have his ability and level of earnings?

Maybe this will cheer up the deeply unhappy anti-Murray trolls:

Actually it probably won't. Its still funny anyway :-)

Wot a fvcking tosser the bloke is.

He can certainly toss a tennis ball a lot better than you and he's made more money doing it than you can ever dream of in a lifetime.

But I'm certain he appreciates your good wishes towards him!

That was freakin' hilarious :D

One this is sure though, Andy is a lot better actor than federer, Nadal, Djokovic.

No way! If anything, Andy is on par with Federer as coming across less stilted and way more natural in his acting.

... and after having seen the clip I would still give Federer's thespian qualities more credence.

Another hate thread . What is wrong with some people.

OP, I hope you're not serious with that silly "most hated sportsman of all time" thing. It's just ridiculous.

You probably have a point there.

Lol :D

He's a pretty good actor there.

I've met loads of people who don't really like Murray but support him, "cos you have to get behind a brit" you know they support him, but criticise him more than anyone.
