Ivy League
i know from history they allways had their success
but this season they seem to try very good


1) Columbia, they ve beaten Princeton, Dartmouth and harvard, even gave UGA a fright, Winston Lin is great, Mike Vermeer on 6 is a big weapon

2) Harvard, gave MSU a big fight, unusually lost big to South Carolina after it, big win over Tulsa, beating Penn and Cornell, Dennis Nguyen is great

3) Dartmouth, is the surprise team so far, giving Columbia a great fight, if they can beat Memphis and/or VCU in upcoming matches, they even can get a NCAA berth, good all around team with not a greater weakness

4) Princeton, play at Blue and Gray, only loss so far came vs Columbia, Zac MacCourt is a ranked player

5) Cornell, killing Rice 6-1 was a good result

6) Yale, not many results so far, but losing 0-7 to a mediocre VTech looks not good

7) Penn , only one win, but this was vs Brown, so they are 7th, a 6-day, 4 games in California is coming up, with bigger game vs SDSU

Kudos to you for giving everyone some insight on the Ivys - well done!

Dartmouth is definitely a surprise so far - been keeping my eye on them. The loss to Columbia over the weekend was 4-3 with the decider being 6-3 in the 3rd at 1 so they are right there with the top 2. They gave Okie St a good match early as well.

Keep us informed.

Athletes can and should contribute more to Yale’s broader environment.”

During Levin’s presidency from 1993 to 2013, the number of recruited athletes at Yale declined from 18 to 13 percent of the student body.”

A couple of years ago I was impressed with the Harvard men when they came to play at Indiana. They lost 4-3 but played stronger the rest of the season and I think were top 30 at some point, memory isn't 100% always though.

vs Nwestern and Memphis.
Princeton plays Blue-and-Gray, tough to see anything as 3 losses there.

my weekly update, not much changing here

1) Columbia, were idle cause of cancelled match

2) Harvard, beat Nwestern, lost to Memphis this week, thats not enough to put them ahead, they ve still the loss vs Columbia directly in it

3) Dartmouth,lost only 3-4 vs a good memphis team

4) Princeton, gave their hearts vs 3 Top40-teams, but still lost all, will not punish them for this

6) Yale, won 2 matches vs overmatched teams, but i put them now over Cornell

7) Cornell, were idle this week, their only big win was vs Rice..and now it gets clearer that Rice is a bad team this year

8.) Brown, were idle this week

the league did quite well this weekend
they are really a tough league behind the Big5 (maybe even better as AAC/Big East?)

1) Columbia, won vs MTSU, which is not too hard this times, columbia is still the best here until sth amazing happens, cause of their direct win vs Harvard

2) Harvard, were idle this week, so nothing to change

3) Dartmouth, won at indiana 4-1, this is a great win, Dartmouth is for real !!! This is a top40 team, and could be a hard out in 1st round when Ncaas come.

4) Princeton, beat Buffalo 4-3 and sweeped Stony Brook, the Buffalo win was close, but Buffalo is Top75

5) Cornell, beat MTSU, fine win vs a not-so-good opponent and also beat Nebraska pretty easy. I put them ahead of Yale this time, 2 good wins.

6) Yale, beat Old Dominion 6-1, the now 6th-best team here is doing a good job !

7 ) Penn , i missed them last week..in my rankings...they were idle this week

8.) Brown, beat BC (nothing to enjoy), lost close to Elon, beat Gardner-Webb, nothing big to tell, but even the worst Ivy team can compete in the Division I

Brown beat #65 Buffalo 4-3 and Columbia beat #75 Binghamton 5-0 so it was a nice day for the IVY beating 4 ranked teams.

the league did again quite well this week
they won all the 4 mentinoned games i named last week vs other conferences.
Only Princeton lost vs Penn State.
the rankings in this league good be nicely at seasons end


1) Columbia, won easily vs Binghampton, okay that was easy

2) Harvard, won a doubleheader, 1 times vs Michigan State, great showing there. But cannot put them higher as 2 so long columbia is not falling

3) Dartmouth, was idle this week.

4) Princeton, beat Denver , losing to Penn State, the margin ahead of Cornell is very close now.

5) Cornell, beat ODU and beat VCU which is a great win, they are poised to go up

6) Yale, did not play this week, they only played 6 matches so far, ugly, do not really know what to make of them

7 ) Penn , beat Temple, Temple has a tennis team?

8.) Brown, had 3 wins this week, one was vs ranked Buffalo, Brown is very close to Yale and Penn, cannot put them higher as 8 cause no one ahead of them lost. And they some weaker losses..so

Penn is going on the road to California tomorrow for matches vs SDSU and UCSB, looking for a split maybe, plus a weekend matches at Cal Poly and Cal Irvine

Yale will play 3 matches vs lower teams

Columbia will play at Michigan on Saturday, looking really forward to this match

1) Columbia, crushed Michigan, very fine win if u think that UM won at ole miss in january, at TCU and at Smu will be nice this week

2) Harvard, did not play

3) Dartmouth, was again idle this week. at VCU on wednesday

4) Princeton, also did not play

5) Cornell, no play...

6) Yale, won 3 easy matches, plays UNCW this midweek

7) Brown, not played

8.) Penn , went on the road to California and lost 3 of 4 vs decent competition..not a good trip, so i they dropped behind Brown, which was in case for longer

has anyone seen Winston Lin play? He is unbeaten in dual play this year and only lost two matches in the fall. Huge improvement from a year ago. What type of style does he play?

Sorry if this is the wrong thread, but I had a question about Ivy League tennis:
I will be attending Harvard starting this fall. I am a 2-star recruit and ranked around #200 in my section. I dare say I pack more punch then my ranking suggests. Due to work and study and my parent's work commitment I have been unable to travel for many tournaments and mainly participated in smaller local events. For this reason I am ranked lower than many players of my level. Based on match results I would say my actual level is closer to 3-star and I can beat many of the guys ranked 80-100. Based on this, would it make sense for me to try out for Harvard's team? Do I have any chance of even making the squad? What sort of time commitment would I have to make to practice or maybe play on the team?

Harvard is legit Top 30 D1 team and just about everyone on the roster was a 5-star TRN recruit with a few Blue Chips as well. Maybe look at some of the names and see if you know them or maybe have played them prior or better yet go watch a practice and/or match to see how they look compared to you. I'm not the best one to tell you about the time commitment so maybe someone else could answer that one.

i ve no idea, but harvard only has recruited 5-stars the last years, minimum 4-stars, so it could be tough to make the team?

1) Columbia, had their problems with SMU but survived, followed by impressive win at TCU, UC can play with any team, they are real Top20 !

2) Harvard, went to the finals at San Diego Invite, 2 good wins, with a tough loss vs Drake, solid week

3) Dartmouth, loss at VCU but solid wins vs W&M and ODU

4) Princeton,6th place in San Diego Invite, swept by Purdue, could ve been better...

5) Cornell, one easy win vs St johns, ...vs Columbia this weekend

6) Yale, lost at UNCW this week, will not make NCAAs

7) Brown, only beat Bryant...

8.) Penn , beat a lowly GTown team..nothing else

Columbia and Harvard are interesting teams!

update, columbia is getting higher and higher in the rankings

1) Columbia, easily beat a good cornell team, big weekend ahead now

2) Harvard, beat St.Johns what Penn not did

3) Dartmouth, not played , big weekend ahead

4) Cornell, swept by Columbia, but the Princeton loss to Penn hurts more

5) Princeton,the loss to Penn really hurts...lost them one place

6) Penn , lost to St.Johns..oops but they beat Princeton, what now? they also beat Brown earlier, Yale is not good..Penn jumps up by 2 places, but still not feel they are better as Princeton (Princeton fought very well vs teams like Clemson, Columbia and Miss State)

7) Yale, also lost to St.Johns, but took 2 wins vs lesser opponents, the Penn win over Princeton..causes some damage

8.) Brown, beat Florida Atlantic and lost to a very good USF team

lots of Ivy League ahead this weekend, Columbia vs Harvard and Dartmouth vs Columbia and Harvard vs Cornell and Dartmouth vs Cornell are the highlights
so the Top4 and the Bottom 4 all play 2 games vs each other !!! Much highlight tennis!

Re: Matt Nardella - my son played with him in Jrs. He's a lefty. Very solid all around. Can play doubles. Tough competitor. Will do fine at Penn, but probably won't break any records. Nice kis.

Re: playing at harvard - the coach might let you walk on the team, but you will probably play one match a year against a really low ranked opponent like BU unless you get a Lot better. That's a lot of work for little reward. You are probably better off with club tennis. Congrats on getting into Harvard - that is not easy to do.

Congrats on Harvard. I just don't see you making varsity there. Those guys are legit 5 stars.

the big ivy league weekend just has proven that Columbia stands above all


1) Columbia, swept harvard and Dartmouth..wow..the 2 best teams behind team (plus a sweep earlier vs Cornell..) Columbia should be hosting a regional !
will they even lose a single point in ivy league play???

2) Harvard, swept by Columbia but beat Cornell, they are the right no.2 here, will reach ncaas

3) Dartmouth, hold down a tough cornell before getting swept by Columbia, should reach ncaas

4) Cornell, lost to Cornell and Dartmouth, the ncaas are getting tougher, could drop behind 50

5) Princeton,beat Yale and Brown, good sign, needs to get a win vs Harvard or Dartmouth to have any chance for the ncaas

6) Yale, beat Penn, lost big to princeton, the top 5 here are not to reach anymore i think

7) Penn , beat Penn but lost to Yale...oops, i switch both back this week, it was a 50-50 last week and now penn lost to yale directly

8.) Brown, lost tough matches vs Brown and Princeton, they are last , but..

the ivy league has no tournament i think?

1) Columbia, finally lost a single point in league play, they only won 4-1 vs Brown (who vs lowly brown) and then swept Yale. Columbia really deserves of hosting a regional, but the rankings of the other league members are not good enough
Columbia lost one single match so far, a 2-4 at Georgia
team can even get better next season, they ve no seniors and again 1 or 2 5-star-recruits coming in !!! Wow !

2) Harvard, easily beat Princeton and Penn, will make ncaas.

3) Dartmouth, beat Penn and took a very very close win over Princeton , i wish they make ncaas, but they also sit on the bubble a little bit

4) Cornell, beat Yale and Brown 4-3 each, but the NCAAs are far away, ranking is too bad

5) Princeton, lost to Harvard and to Dartmouth in a heartbeater, not any chances for ncaas

6) Yale, lost to Columbia and Cornell

7) Penn , chanceless vs Harvard & Dartmouth

8.) Brown, tough loss vs Cornell and were their first here to take any single point from mighty Columbia. Respect, but that not earns wins.

Good day for the Ivy League - Penn over Penn State 5-2 & Brown over VCU 4-3. Cornell beat Iowa 4-2 a few days ago too.

never forget Columbia and also Harvard!
They are easily top2, but rest all deserves a place in NCAAs, Brown, Penn and Cornell

That Penn result over PSU is pretty surprising to an outsider anyway. I did not expect that at all.
