IW vs Miami OPEN - Which one is the most prestigious one?

Folks,

With the Miami Open having a new location/stadium, which one should be the most prestigious one? Is IW still the standard for what a M1000 is supposed to be? Is the Miami Open now the standard? Which one has the overall to be the 5th Slam?

Miami has more history (and was once referred to as the 5th Slam) but IW seems to be viewed as the more prestigious these days (and is regularly voted Players' Favourite Masters).

Honestly, both venues are better than the US Open and have a better spot in the schedule. The tennis season is unbearably long, quantity over quality these days with all the mandatory tournaments. I'd love to see the US Open move to March or April in Indian Wells or Miami (the old purple courted venue). Would make a great spring break trip for us winter-worn and weary northerners.

I only have first-hand knowledge of Indian Wells, but I thought it was an awesome venue and supposedly very popular with the players (except the Williams sisters!) Key Biscayne was nice, too, but this new location doesn't seem all that appealing to me, thus far....

The only others I've been to were Indianapolis (which is no more) and DC, which was really fun, but only a 500.

I don't understand why they moved from.Key Biscayne???? If the lease was up, just renew for Christ's sake. Lot of history in that stadium.

Also pissed they put a roof on Author Ashe and destroyed/revamed Louis Armstrong and Stadium 2 Court at US Open.

To me one of the last great Wimbledon finals was 2007 when they had it open. The year before they made room for a roof. Watching that final almost felt like they were playing on one of the outside courts. Just had a special feel. And my last, best final i thought was 2009 Wimbledon Final. Just feels like nothing is worth recording anymore.

Too many egos involved.
My hunch is that growth of IW made Miami organizers eager to improve their facilities to compete. It blew up in their faces.

I think you identified the root of the problem. Trying to turn Miami into Indian Wells. Bruce Matheson said in a not so nice voice. I think the move is a good thing. The organizers get their bigger stadium. The politicians keep the tournament in Miami. The people will get the park back for its original intended use. I support Matheson. These corporate bullies need to learn how act with integrity.

Miami was always much nicer than that giant stadium in the middle of the desert where wealthy people live(how bizarre...). The stadium in Key Biscayne was one of the most beautiful I've seen; the surrounding(the greenery, the sea) was also wonderful. But now with that new location and venue, Indian Wells wins.

Miami was the more prestigious when it was the Lipton. Once Ellison took the reigns at IW, Indian Wells has blown doors off Miami in prestige.
