Jack Sock Wins first Major with Oudin

Congrats to Jack Sock and Melanie Oudin who just won the US Open mixed doubles title.

Sock, 18 years old, and Oudin 19 defeated the number 1 seeds.

They entered the tournament as wild cards.

Congrats to both.

I think this kid (Sock) is going to have a great career. He has all the shots from the baseline, huge serve, is a very good mover, and outstanding in his transitional game to the net, and once there, has great hands.

Yes, I think given the right partner he could have a great career as a mixed doubles specialist almost as good as Jamie Murray's.

I haven't seen Sock but I hope you're right Drakulie. What would you say is best shot?

By the way I'm very happy for Oudin. She's had a bad year and I hope she can be competitive again.

I would say his best shot is his first serve against the female returner, followed by a fist pump if he hits an ace.

By the way I'm very happy for Oudin. She's had a bad year and I hope she can be competitive again.

Huge serve, followed by the forehand. However, he has a solid backhand, and has good hands at the net. At only 18, already has huge tools to work with, and could only get better when the experience comes.

Sock's forehand is pretty big, but it tends to hang sometime instead of penetrating thru the court. The same issue with many of the big American forehands including Roddicks, and Harrison's among others...

I wonder why so many American players have this type of fore-hand (big but not always penetrating)?

^^^Agree about the FH. That said, it is much bigger than Harrison's, which tends to be too loopy.
