James Blake lets Pam Shriver have it.

pam shriver deserved that, she didn't handle it professionally at all...and she was at fault there speaking very loudly during a point, its wimbledon! the biggest tournament of the year

Good for James, Pam can be annoying sometimes, especially if your losing a match and you can hear her whining about your game.

Blake's failing game caused his pointless remarks. It is not as though he was going to the finals no matter what physical condition he's in.

I doubt he even wanted to win the match. The beatdown he would have gotten from Nadal next round would have been brutal. The biggest thing he probably would like to preserve is his respectable head to head with Nadal which is close to his biggest claim to fame in the game.

Well why don't they just shorten the field to 16 players or so? Using your theory, it's not as though anyone not named Fed, Nadal, Roddick, Murray, or a select few others has a real shot at making the final or winning the tournament, so everyone out of the top 20 should just withdraw and not even try. Gotta love the defeatist attitude.

Yes we all know Blake is past his prime. He's 30 and coming off an injury layoff. Only his 2nd match back...this result was to be expected. THough I guess according to you he shouldn't even try or doesn't even have the right to compete without some bonehead burying him...rich.

why were they out covering an American player out of the top 100?

For someone who follows tennis from your armchair 24/7 with 16 simultaneous identities, you have surprisingly little insight into the minds of professional athletes. :-|

Good on James. Someone had to put Shriver in her place. She is obnoxious in her media work.

Well done Blake. I only wish he would have waited to do it in an interview explaining what pos Pam Shriver, Mary Carillo and Bud Collins are.

Between Pam Shriver's squawking during that match, and Mary Carillo's annoying persistence that play should not have been suspended when it so clearly should have, I'm really wondering why I watch this coverage at all.

Oh that's right atdhe was shut down.....

I missed his prime. When was it? Do we have video evidence?

How rude, she didn't know and as you can see from the video she WAS far up from the court. James Blake was just mad he was losing. He didn't have to swear at her...completely unnecessary.

LOL, no she wasn't "far" up. That was pretty darn close from what I saw. I do think it was hilarious that she was blasting the guy the whole time and James heard every word of it. Hahaha.

About time someone told her to shut up. She overtalks the sound of the ball with nonsense no one cares about, every dam point.

Guys you have to remember this is Wimbledon. Have you ever noticed the crowd noise as compared to the other grand slams. It's a lot quieter, so obviously he would be able to hear her. And give her a break, maybe grandma's hearing aid was broken so she didn't know she was obnoxiously loud... lol

However, when you are called out, you should be respectful, and STFU. Don't keep on going on like people tuned into the channel to hear YOU talk.

Blake's response was entirely rude, out of line, and classless.

I totally understand his frustration, but that is no excuse for his classless response.

davey25, re: the above post that Polaris directed at you (please take this in the non-confrontational spirit), my take:

You, myself, et al have to understand and maybe respect what it took for Blake to get to no less a tourney than Wimbledon in the first place, i.e. major, intense competiveness that's going to bring out the 'shaddup!' nature of the professional-for-a-career into being.

This guy who didn't break the upper-upper big time nevertheless almost got his neck broken at Rome (and dealt with 'dad-death') and did end up playing as a relatively 'old man' at Winbledon this year. And btw, this from a very "anti-J-Block" (loud, self-obsessed and probably semi-drunk --- "look/listen to us!" clowns) member of the tennis viewing public....but who loved/respected Tommy Blake (Trevor Park)...who was a tennis "good guy" ... big time.

My point: put yourself in his shoes. Would Borg have chirped? No. But at the same time, different strokes for different strokes. jmho.

Yes, he could've buckled-down and shown some more grit, but Pammy as a former player could've/should've shown some "fraternal" world-class-pro consideration...not to mention the director. again, jmho.

After pointing out that she was loud, she then goes on to not only talk at an audible volume again, but she accusses him of having "rabbit ears".

Unbelievable.

Win of epic proportions, "uhh James just yelled at me" seriously though, that box looked maybe 10 or 15 feet high, he could hear every single word

"ladies and gentlemen, as a courtesy to the players, please remain quiet during the rallies. uh . . . you too, pam."

yeah, that would've been priceless.

pam shriver is and always has been dreadfully painful, opinionated, and comes across-whether it's true or not-as not caring about the players when her chance to make herself or her absurd opinions/commentary heard in the spotlight is in question.

I would rather be tied to a chair in a dark room with Mary Carillo holding a microphone than listen to shriver commentate. What a d bag.

Am i being overly sensitive? Just like somone said, the fact that Shriver CONTINUED to talk after Blake could clearly hear her, well, that speaks volumes about her as a person. And from what I heard, Blake didn't "cuss her out," like someone said. I believe he asked if she was going to turn it around and make it seem like HE was the ass in the situation. That's not cursing someone IMO.

I'd like to see him break the racquet, then make Pam Shriver eat some shards of graphite.
And then shove the buttcap up her rectum.
That stupid woman never shuts up.
Hooray for James.

In people like Shriver, Carillo, Patrick McEnroe and Enberg, tennis has some of the most loudmouthed, undisciplined, self-indulgent, self-important, immature commentators in all of sports.

Invariably, their attitude is that what they have to say is far more important than anything happening on the court -- and it has to be said NOW, nevermind that the ball is in play.

It's a very peculiar situation, in one of the major sports. And it's absolutely shameful.

[Yes, I did mean to say that Dick Enberg's behavior is immature. He's so old, he's come full circle.]

Wow, are you serious?

You think a player would prefer to lose a match and preserve a stupid head-2-head rather than win?

Guess you don't actually play tennis.

i wouldn't want to see that. if blake broke a racquet, he'd be down to 2. i'd hate see him waste one of his 3 lone racquets on shriver. she isn't worth it!

Pam, should shut up about Blake. He's had a great career. He was ranked in the top 10 for several years, nothing to be ashamed of and yet she just kept going on and on about how his game was off.

I agree it's self-importance. She wouldn't even have a job right now if it weren't for the players PLAYING A MATCH right in front of her, a match that she is commenting on. It's so ludicrous. In fact, it's post-modern.

She shouldn't be part of the action at all. It really takes something away there. I felt the same way when Mac got on the court at the US Open. I think commentators should be objective and on the outside.
