Jankovic to Federer: "Mind your own business"

Sorry if this has been discussed before. I didn't know Jankovic had it in her.' How dare she speak like that about Federer? Who is she to react to the perfectly classy federer?

PARIS (Reuters) - Roger Federer should concentrate on his own career rather than criticizing others, Serb Jelena Jankovic said on Tuesday after being irked by the Swiss master's unflattering verdict on her number one world ranking last year.

Last month, former world number one Federer hit out at the way the WTA rankings were calculated, saying a player who has never won a grand slam should not be granted the number one spot.

Jankovic reached the top spot in the WTA rankings in August having never won a major tournament. She lost her first grand slam final to American Serena Williams at last year's U.S. Open.

The Serb has since dropped down to third in the world following a shock fourth-round defeat to France's Marion Bartoli at the Australian Open.

"To be honest, I do not like to talk about players, I really prefer to focus on myself," Jankovic told Reuters in an interview at the Paris Open.

She said she could not understand why Federer felt the need to hit out at women's tennis while his great rival Rafa Nadal, who took over from the Swiss as world number one, was so "humble."

"Why should he even care? I don't like putting my nose in other's business.

"I mean, one thing I like about Nadal is that he is such a great champion, he is so humble, always has kind words for everybody, he is a role model for everybody," said Jankovic.

"Federer is a great champion, I don't want to get in a fight with him but why does he care, I really don't understand. Why does he need to do that?"

Federer also led the charge against Jankovic's compatriot Novak Djokovic when he quit because of the heat in his Australian Open quarter-final match against Andy Roddick.

"I'm almost in favor of saying, you know what, if you're not fit enough, just get out of here," the Swiss said.

Jankovic said Federer should not criticize fellow players. "I don't think it's nice to attack other players.

"If he retired, he probably had his reasons, he knows better. You cannot attack someone when you don't have proof, when you don't have a piece of evidence.

"There is no reason to offend him that way."

Jankovic will open her Paris Open campaign with a first-round match against Italian Francesca Schiavone. Continued...

So, did she have the right to be offended by Federer's words?

Sure she did and she's right. She worked the hardest, played in a large number of tournaments and earned the position. Every girl has an equal shot to make it to the top.

Sounds like someone took some grumpy pills. Federer is just stating his opinion and I don't think it was aimed directly at her. And what she was saying about Rafa and how he is so humble I think Federer is too. I don't have anything against Rafa but Federer is a great role-model. She deserved been #1 but just because she hadn't won a grandslam there is no need to get angry about it. Safina is #1 and hasn't won a grandslam.

Even the trolls can tell you that this has been beaten to death already. You can see that much from the first reply in this thread.

Jankovic's comments are truthful, observant, objective, and very spot-on. Federer's snide remarks were arrogant, narcissistic, hypocritical and uncalled for. Nadal is indeed a great and humble champion - many times over. So is Djokovic - Federer's bitter remarks only show his arrogance, bitterness, and hypocrisy. Nothing else needs to be added to this discussion. Everything is clear as day.

welcome troll!
Why post this? You know it's only gonna bring out Fed haters and create more flame wars, so what's your point? It's old news, been discussed before, and you making a new thread a/b it is only opening the floodgates for more flame wars. You know that.

How dare she speak like that about Federer? Who is she to react to the perfectly classy federer?

I see through your sarcasm. Stop trolling.

Here you are again in this troll thread. As I said...I didn't know that this has been discussed before....I even apologized for that....The mods can close this if they want.

Now why don't you try to stop the other thread, aiming to start the other "flame-wars". or are you only interested in stopping threads about saint federer's mis-conduct?

What a silly woman. Does she not know that roger is the self appointed spokesman on all things tennis, who is well within his rights to speak out on any player he chooses.

Id say, jelena "medical time-out injury time-out faker" Jankovic should win a couple of slams before she says stuff like this.
I know Sofia Arvidsson from Sweden a bit (wta-tour player) and she told me that "doing a Jankovic warm-up" is...putting on a make-up:twisted:

Both actually make pretty good points.Jankovic's nr.1 is kinda lame because she wasn't won any Slams. On the men's side Nadal had to sit 160 weeks at nr.2 and win 6 slams to get to nr.1.Not to mention the fact that he had to topple fed to do it.

Then again Fed has no business stirring the pot when it comes to the whole djokovic issue.I don't understand why it's such a big deal.Do any of you think that djokovic wants to retire,to throw away all his hard work just cause he is losing in one particular match. If I were on the ATP I would love to draw against the djoker. Why? Well if he is this whiner that everyone on the TW boards say he is,than all I have to do is win 1 set and be up in the second and novak will fold, right? The truth is he has some fitness issues, especially ith breathing, which he needs to get sorted out,but roddick making fun of him at he USOpen and federer speaking against him isn't exactly fair-play on their part.

No one wants to shoot themselves in the foot, not even djokovic,no matter how weird it may seem to some people on this forum. As I said,I would love to draw djokovic if all the things they say about him are true.He must be the easiest player to defeat in ATP.

So a player should win a couple of slams before stating their disappointment at another player who has publicly made negative comments about them?

I am glad he did. These women want equal prize money, this and that.I rem.Jankovic complaining about being put on an outside court last year at Wimledon..and then they cannot even prove themselves.
Besides,Federer's comments were directed at the ranking system and not at Jankovic herself. It wasnt even criticism..it was disappointment. The journo either failed to convey that to her or she simply didnt understand.

@ Zoso, You spent a lot of time to come up with something worthless...when its clear there is only one definition,

Fed hater = Someone who is jealous of Federer's victories because he/she is a Nadal fan, Sampras fan or a Djokovic fan, or a fan of some old player whos record Fed just broke.

Wow.So nobody can hate Fed unless he/she is a Sampras/Nadal/Djokovic/other player fan? That's a pretty limited view.I have friends who watch tennis only casually and hated federer because tennis turned into a 1-man sport, not because they rooted for any of the players you mentioned above. And I've seen people who hate Nadal/Djokovic and aren't particularly fond of Federer.

I'll agree that your "hater" definition encompases a lot of Fed haters but it's not the definitive definition for a fed hater.

The-Champ, I believe you didn't know this has been discussed already. What I don't understand this is that if you want to open an objective discussion thread, why do you mock Federer in your first post? You are just feeding the guys like gj011 and in return you won't get many objective replies.

Ok maybe I should have added, the definition only covers people who follow tennis...I thought that was a given considering this is a tennis forum...
