Jannik Sinner on the verge of tying an impressive record

Federer in 2005 had 4 losses. Of those 4 losses, 2 of them had Federer just 1 point away from victory (vs. Safin at the Australian Open and vs. Gasquet at Monte Carlo), another where Federer was serving for the match and up 30-0, thus 2 points away from victory (vs. Nalbandian at the YEC), and another where Federer lost to Nadal in 4 sets at the French Open, a match that Federer went into having won his previous 11 matches in a row (and 28 sets in a row).

In the next year 2006, fed lost 1 match in straight sets to Murray as he was tired. Had he known about this stupid record, he would have just won 1 set and lost.
In 2011, Djokovic retired from two matches against Murray and delpo. Does that count as straight set loss.

At the end I'm surprised there has been no one who avoided a straight set loss in a year between 2006 and 2023.

Even in that RG match Fed was up a break in 4th set and looked the stronger player. Suddenly conditions changed and lost that one.

Can we get such impressive seasons where a player has lost just 1 or 2 matches whole season in straight sets

Please stop making stuff up
Just posting facts. You are in denial if you dispute what i am saying and if in doubt simply go and ask someone who only casually follows tennis and ask them who won RG and W, which i bet they will know, and then ask who won WTF and was YE1. I am pretty certain they wouldnt know who won the WTF, in fact they may not even know what it is! Go to a soccer forum and pose the question, see for yourself.

Just stop

the slam race is over

take a break

I don't think the powers that be understand the damage that this did. Sinner going on to better form since only makes it worse.

I don’t understand how going on to better form makes it worse. Even if he was doping, surely he’s not now. He’s arguably playing better without ped’s.

The guy got straight setted twice by a 36 year old Djokovic just a year ago in two of the biggest matches of the year. I know he's, uh, enhanced his game since then, but still talk about hollow.

Sinner has now become the first man in the OE to come within one set from winning every match he played throughout the season. TBH this can be achieved by losing in the first round of every single match, but it's still a cool stat.

He’s also playing a bunch of nobodies.

He doesn't. But he keeps this dominant streak, nobody's going to care. The world loves a winner, even though he's a cheat.
Ben Johnson, the greatest 100m sprinter
Lance Armstrong, by far the greatest cyclist

The irony with those two is that their rivals tested positive. Armstrong wasn't even caught in the usual way.

If tests were done correctly, everyone should test positive on something.
